Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster Has a North American Release Date

I bet these games are going to look really goofy with their silly ass animations in HD.

I never played X, but I really liked X-2. I'm a disgrace.

Boy X-2 was really bad. Completely different tone then X and everyone acted completely different the they had in the first game. At least it had based Paine.

I really hope they took the opportunity to change FFX's sidequests. Not sure if the International version addressed them.

Hopely this will make people finally realize that X-2 is pretty much the best video game in the Final Fantasy main series. It may not be the best Final Fantasy, but it's a hell of a fun game.

Looks like they didn't even re-render the FMVs in a higher resolution. Somehow this always gets left out in HD Remakes, and I wonder why that is. Are the master files gone or something?

How does any of that make the game bad? The whole plot of the game was three characters forcing themselves to live a ridiculous camp-filled adventurer lifestyle to escape the crushing melodrama they endured a year prior. The point was that they couldn't stand being themselves anymore because it was suffocating them to the point that they couldn't function, so they created entirely new personalities.

They even illustrate that point in the combat system using the dress spheres... It's okay if you just don't like the game because you wanted more FFX, but Square-Enix set out to tell a specific story and that's exactly what they did. You don't like that story, fine. That doesn't make it a bad game.

I cannot believe how long it took to get a release date on an HD rerelease that was announced like.. two years ago?

Super hype!!! I just hope vita makes the same release date! Wanted to level grind at work and watch the great story on my big HDTV. Lord god Mog make it so!

I will buy it because I am a gigantic tool. Just like I'll probably buy Lightning Returns as well. It's just like clockwork.

X-2 was a bad game.

Not sure how the tone being different makes it bad. The gameplay is some of the best in the series, the music is great and there's a whole bunch of goofball shit that's a lot of fun.

@king9999: Nope all of the side quests were the same. Only difference was that the international version had Dark Aeons and Omega Weapons life was 1000000 instead of 100000.

They have already said that the Vita version's release date will be announced "at a later time"... aka it is probably not getting a physical release and might not even be coming to the West at all.

My only hype for this game was a fun JRPG to play on the Vita now that I'm done with P4G. With only a PS3 version all hype is lost for me.

Portable 10's gonna be sweet, especially with the small bit of content I missed out on. Hope it gets a release date soon (even digital's fine). Makes me wonder if they'll do 12 too. While not my absolute favorite it was fun and it got some changes in a newer version that I'd totally be up for.

@anjon: And that story was awful. 12 is better then ether of these games by a lot anyway I don't know why people would waste money again on this.

Great games, awful stories and characters.

X-2 is an amazingly solid in terms of mechanics but the story is absolutely attrocious, even in the context of how silly FFX was. It's proof that Toriyama should be kept far away from characters and left to make the gameplay. If you needed further proof just look at Lightning Returns. God damn it, Toriyama, you creepy, creepy fucker.

Dear Squeenix, I will pay you 25 extra dollars on top of the retail price not to have to dodge lightning 200 times again to get that ultimate weapon.

It's software deprecation, most likely. The original files were made circa 1999? Let's assume they did preserve every scrap of data (and keep in mind modern games need terabytes of raw storage during development). Whatever commercial software they used to create it probably had a proprietary format. Maybe it was a SGI workstation. If the software even exists today it probably doesn't have a working converter for a file that old... and it won't be a perfect conversion even if. How much money would it cost to Make It Work? More than Square is willing to pay.

I believe the ST:TNG remastering had the same issues. Not only could they not re-work with the CGI effects, they simply looked like trash in HD because why use more quality than was required at the time? It's inefficient to future-proof anything, that is a simple fact of business.

This is why analog wins, from an archival standpoint. (Full disclosure: I have worked professionally as an Archivist.) As long as film exists, we will keep making better and better scanning technology to extract every bit of existing detail. But you can't go back in time and click a button to upscale a digital photo. Digital>Digital restoration invents detail where none existed. "Zoom and enhance" is the running gag, because it is in fact a joke.

I can see how playing X-2 without the context of X would actually be beneficial to your enjoyment of the game. You don't have the severe tonal whiplash going from one to the other that way.

Also, I will still defend X-2's gameplay as being the best in the franchise. It's just a shame how pointless and creepy 90% of its story is. I still have nightmares about that "massage mini-game".

I still rank FFX as one of my favorites in the franchise though. It felt like the last Final Fantasy with a tried and true "vision" behind it, before the series became a platform for fan-service and tech demos (I might have said the same for FFXII, if the story didn't completely fall apart in its last chapters).

High definition melodrama.

I was thinking about getting this since I never played FFX, or many JRPGs for that matter, but after watching this I'm not so sure I will enjoy it.
