The final frontier.

Definitely a unique take on the concept, even if gameplay-wise it does boil down to playing RTS in the same way we always have. The presentation goes a long way here.

This looks stunning. Hopefully this will be released on the PS4 at some point

Posted by White

It's not really a first-person RTS if you still gotta use some kinda tactical overview to move your units.

Also, what happens if the enemy pilots a ship and shoots straight at the bridge?

Edited by Cogzwell

I was confused and didn't realize Flagship was the name of the game, so for a second I thought the company that brought out Hellgate: London secretly still existed and was releasing this game.

Well, Colony Wars was a Psygnosis / SCE Studio Liverpool property. So... Tweet @GioCorsi #BuildingTheList.

At the very least this looks really interesting.

Remember that episode of Suzumiya Haruhi where Yuki and the crew play the strategy game against th- eh what am I saying.

Love how the noise in space is silent! Makes it realistic and dramatic!

Yeah, I want another Colony Wars game. Colony Wars: Vengeance for PS1 still looks pretty good visually, just imagine what they could do with 20 years of hardware evolution since then.

Posted by flasaltine

I wonder what more you can do besides stand in that one spot. Also, I hope you can go up and down.

Posted by Dimi3je

Super interesting concept. Wonder if it will be fun to play.

This would make such an amazing Battlestar Galactica game.

If nothing else, the tension of seeing your fleet get annihilated is probably worth the price alone.

Seeing these screenshot makes me regret selling my copies of all 3 Colony Wars games. I miss that series.

What an elegant solution to RTS in first person, looks superb.

Edited by Rowr

Colony wars? I'm sure you meant to say homeworld.

The central idea of this game is genius.

Posted by Waffley

Fantastic, now we just need a Rift-friendly glove controller for some sick virtual touch stuff.

Posted by rygar8bit

its no uprising x wish it was more hands on combat wise oh well will still check it out

Posted by ThatOneDudeNick

I'm so happy that space is popular again.

Posted by Morden2261

If this comes out and then someone mods it to play out Babylon 5 or Battlestar Galactica battles while you can just spectate from one of the ships I will die happy.

Oddly saddened that the RTS interface is on a flat plane but the concept looks amazing. Things like this are great for the Oculus so it can add value to the experience rather than being a gimmick, well here's hoping!

whoa!

Oh wow. I was expecting something like Rise and Fall where you can control individual units directly. This is... definitely more interesting. You're actually playing a commander instead of simply being referred to as one while you control the battlefield from your abstract cradle.

hot damn someone really likes Battlestar Galactica.

Looks neat.

The end part gives me massive Freespace 2 flashbacks to "something is coming in.. something big!" and then WOOSH.. oh shit

Posted by year199X

This looks like everything I ever wanted in a space game. I always felt detached from the action in homeworld, and this looks like it'll satisfy that itch.

That said, the ship designs look kind of meh though.

Posted by plato84

Excusing the fact that theres no reason for the CDC or Bridge to be on the outer skin of the Hull, and exposed to fire/vacuum like that, this game looks awesome.

Posted by smiddy

Very interesting idea. Still, all the combat seems to be taking place a more or less 2D plain (there was little to no vertical control or movement) which is missing a big part of what can make space combat so interesting.

Seems people still aren't learning the lessons Homeworld taught us all those fucking years ago.

I don't know how to feel. I thought this looked awesome and immediately looked for an early access type thing. Was very sad its not there. Am now very sad at the state of video games, or I'm happy that most games let me support them in development idk

This made me boot up FTL.

Posted by North6

Looks amazing.

I feel like it would have to be the virtual equivalent of Artemis: Spaceship Bridge Simulator with muliplayer to work, this just looks like you're playing a basic 2d game within a virtualized space.

Edited by gulinotm

What would be cool with this is to have crew members on your ship, like Guns of Icarus, working repairs and guns while you delegate the other ships. Looks pretty damn cool as it is too though.

Posted by librariangmr

YES! More Colony Wars!

Edited by BigBobOmb

I gasped when the large ship came out of nowhere and killed you. Looks like a intense game.

Posted by Bollard

It seems like to be good at the game you would just ignore everything going on outside the ship, as it's just eyecandy that serves no gameplay purpose? Better get used to that tactical map eh.

Posted by AssInAss

Whoah, me likey.

Posted by Ozzie

I'm a sucker for anything space related

Posted by Rodin

This looks pretty cool, I love a good RTS, and being on a ship, it would be cool to have a crew doing stuff on your flagship.

Posted by Wandrecanada

The Battlestations series did this and very few people bought in. Does space sell the idea that much?

Edited by HerbieBug

Snazzy. The thing I wonder about this is how much time you'll actually be spending looking away from your consoles in game. I can see the analog head movement being an impediment to the speed you can navigate your consoles (menus) that you just want to switch off after the honeymoon period is over. Meaning, you'll probably eventually wish you could just scroll between your menus with a button press instead of moving your character's head to do so.

I want to be bathed by a space game. Mass Effect and Eve do a pretty darn good job of making it feel like you've been thrown into a large world where you are just a small part in a bigger world. I've started the X game series and they are also much like that, but so much more on playing the markets.

Posted by nasher27

One of the coolest and more fresh concepts I've seen in a while. The ship designs leave a lot to be desired, though.

Yeah, I was kinda hoping that the enemy is everywhere line would lead to a traitor on the bridge leveling a gun at you...

Posted by selbie

I like the idea of commanding an RTS on the bridge of one of your units. Pity the rest of it looks like garbage - most likely because of the unimaginative ship designs.

Posted by LackingSaint

That ending was fucking terrifying.

Posted by ScorpioNicus

I recommend they spruce up those ship bridges with some ferns.

Edited by SL33TBL1ND

Fuck Colony Wars, what we need is another Omega Boost, aka Polyphony Digital's only good game.

(That said I wouldn't mind a new Colony Wars either.)

I actually really like "hunk of metal in space" style ship designs.
