Strange but I wonder out of the millions or however many people bought it continued to play it for any large amount of time or if it's yet another app that only saw people using it a few times for a couple of minutes.

Please don't justify the iPad's existence by posting anything about it.

It's one of those "buy for a dollar, play for a dollar's worth of time" iPhone games. It has little lasting appeal past the first few games.

If a banana gets on the screen just whack it off.

I whack and whack and whack, but the banana never got off

...the screen.

WTF is this? iPad isn't gaming. Especially a game like that. Get back to me when Final Fantasy Tactics gets released on the iPhone.

Fruit Ninja is an amazing Time Waster, love that they made a trailer for it.

1024x768 is not HD

I can't believe Apple has convinced people that the resolution of the monitor I ran Windows 98 on is "HD".

Posted by Brackynews

Just tried FN last week and it's easily one of the most addictive touchscreen games I've ever played.  Mainly because it's unforgiving as hell.  Very well made product.

Hey thanks for pulling ahead of the pack to meet the thread's quota of elitist whinging so quickly.  Meanwhile I'm sure Square will be happy to make more profit off iPad tower defense games than it has from all releases of Final Fantasy Tactics combined.

But y'know, keep it hardcore if that works for ya.
Posted by Woodwater

Glad to see some iPad coverage. Even if it's for this game. :)

Posted by ch13696
@Brackynews: Better than their multiple releases of Final Fantasy I & II, right? Anyways, I rather keep an old Tactics game portable and since I don't have a PSP, this will have to do. Let's look at it this way too, at least Square manages to come out with better iPhone games than those cheap dollar games.

How is a resolution with vertical lines slightly higher than 720 not HD? At that resolution there is a discernible difference between standard and high definition video.

Anyway, whatever. I'd like to see a couple more "real" games on the iPad. Tetris and Geometry Wars are a good start, now I'd like a nice long RPG on it.

Metal Gear Rising looks to be the better fruit cutting sim.

There's the things called standards. 720p, 1080i & 1080p are one of the more common HD video modes.

720p equals 921600 pixels per image, the iPad resolution however offers only 786432 pixels per image, which is 135168 pixels less as the de-facto lowest standard HD video mode (720p). So no 1024x768 is not HD if we follow the rulebook.

I was just lamenting that Apple has pretty much turned what was a standard into a buzzword.

To bring it back... that is a pretty sweet trailer, even if the game isn't in HD. ;)

was replying to the other dude, asking why 768 isn't HD :)

As for the game, I don't care, probably wont ever own an iPad in this part of the world anyway :)

...who was replying to my complaint about Apple calling non-HD things HD!  (Clearly I agree with you.)

There's no way I'd ever buy an iPad either because you could buy a computer that could play real games for the price of an iPad.

But if someone handed me an iPad with this game, then I'd absolutely play it.  Slicing things in games is always satisfying!

looks refreshing

Fruit Ninja on my iPhone is plenty fun, but I'm skeptical playing on a larger touch screen, where the precision slicing has to cover a greater area.

Looks pretty awesome, shame I don't have an iPad.

*sigh* Now I have to go buy a $600 iPad...

Wow...fruit, and cutting  fruit! I love games that involve things I could go to my kitchen and do anytime I wanted to, seriously, that is why I play games....<sarcasm>

I payed 59p for it and it was the 2nd greatest 59p i've ever spend behind Angry Birds and just above Doodle God.

@FMinus:  Mmm but you're forgetting about aspect ratio. x720 is a 16:9 ratio and x768 is a 4:3 ratio. If you take a high definition copy of a movie shot in 4:3 (old ones like Casablanca for example), and put it on the iPad, it would be viewed in it's full high definition resolution (given that the movie was rendered around that resolution). 1024x768 is basically 4:3 equivalent of 720 "high definition". A term that has, and always will be a meaningless buzzword.

Another example with another format: if you have a high def 1080p copy of a movie that was shot in cinemascope 2.35:1 ratio, the resolution of the displayed image (not counting black bars) would not be 1920x1080, but more like 1920x817.

So in short, while the iPad is not technically "high definition" (though that word is effing useless these days), it's only because of aspect ratio, and it's plenty capable of playing a movie in HD, and looking significantly better than a standard def TV, and quite frankly that's all that matters.

Holy shit that was long.

awesome, I was getting bored of playing good games

Posted by GozerTC

Actually I picked up a pretty decent Fire Emblem style SRPG on the iPad just the other day.  The War of Eustrath HD

It's biggest shortcomming is the writting as it is poorly translated/written but it is deffinetly a step in the right direction that I whole heartedly support.

This game isn't really my style but it is nice to see iPad on Giant Bomb every now and then. (No need to make a habit of it guys!)

I know someone who'll love this

Posted by kuma17

Eh, looks like a nice time waster for short periods of time. But what really sold me is that it was filmed in a park right near my house! Go to it everyday when i go to uni :). Bit vague where in the park it was filmed, though haha.

Also, it would be kinda cool if anyone else recognised the park as well... :D It's the same one shown in the first trailer.

You are correct on all accounts. But truth is, we're talking about standards here and 768 is not considered HD. Let's say here, that HD as in High Definition, is a made up term anyway to mark resolutions that a group of people thought would be considered good for the consumer, as you say - it has no meaning at all.

Anyway, somehow there are standard HD resolutions and those that are not, 768 is not on that list, that's all I'm saying.  Of course, if pushing for more pixels on a small screen is viable, that's another discussion, to my point of view "no", 1024x768 is fine for the iPad or any similar device.

To my dismay however 4:3 is slowly dying out and we can't compare 4:3 to 16:9, so I would disagree that 1024x768 being a counterpart to 1280x720, there is no such thing as counterpart here. If the iPad would try to be a movie playback machines, it would come with 16:9 or 16:10 screens with a resolution of 1366x768 and that would be then "perfect" for watching movies.

@Absolute_Zero: Too true, you have a good point there.
Posted by Tikicobra

I'm shocked at how few people here appreciate the iPhone and iPads as game platforms. This is a great game, and one that more than pays for itself within the first few minutes alone. And it's constantly getting updates.
