What's Yours Is Mine? I've seen that slogan attached to another "heist" game.

It's Monaco

Voice actor doesn't sound anything like the Garret I remember, really. Not sure how much that should bother me, but it bothers me a lot.

Stocked!

If Eidos Montreal can do at least as good a job at keeping to the roots of the original games as they did for Deus Ex, I'll be a happy camper. And this trailer so far talks the talk, they are making all the right references.

Judging by this trailer alone, it doesn't seem like Stephen Russell is voicing Garrett this time around. That really disappoints me. Those Taffers should know better!

While I'm disappointed that Stephen Russell isn't coming back to voice Garrett the new one seems to capture Garrett close enough.

Only thing that may have irked me just A TINY BIT was how the bow was all crazy looking. Just a regular bow would have been fine but hey if he can have a metal eye that bluetooths to camera orbs then why not get a bow upgrade.

This isn't Stephen Russell.

Absolutely nothing about this game so far makes me stoked. The fact that Garrett won't have his iconic voice doesn't help at all. I'm waiting for a gameplay trailer, but so far I don't dig the Dishonored-heavy visuals and the stringy-fucking-looking Garrett, I don't dig the fact that it's a story reboot for a franchise that didn't need one (plague? No Hammerites and Keepers nad Pagans? Basically nothing from one of the best lores in video games?) and I don't even dig the generic-ass logo.

For no gameplay the trailer seemed cool. I like that he has a slim build and is not some muscular buff guy. The voice seems rather generic male lead but nothing offensive about it. I have no history with the series so there's nothing for me to get mad about them changing, but if the game can match the feel of that cgi trailer I will be looking forward to playing the game.

I know a lot of people complain about this being a CG-film trailer more fit for a movie, but "Thief" needs the publicity and punch it might add. Its a big name for many (including me), but the publishers might not think that will suffice, and I believe that the general public is uninformed of its importance and what great games the series already has.

Now, this is great publicity (this trailer in specific) for the game and the format and action centered content will be more easily accepted and understood by the general public due to its familiar nature (dramaturgic similarities to action/adventure-film trailers). On the other hand I don't believe that this is necessarily positive for the gameplay. It could lead to design outcomes to make the game more accessible for "the average consumer".

I hope the game itself (and gameplay in particular) gets as much attention as possible, but I fear it might go the same way as the recent Hitman. This is based purely on what I've read, as I haven't played the game, that the new Hitman game implemented several features that simplified the gameplay and undermined the original nature of its stealth gameplay. I hope this is not the case for new Thief game, but its definitely possible based on it being a revival of a renown IP with no new release for a decade, this trailer and that it's a stealth based game.

There, rant over... back to the beer and killing deathclaws in Fallout.

It's not a Thief game without him.

And that dude was in Skyrim, like a lot. Seems like they could have gotten him.

Actually the more I think about it, the worse it gets. I think I finally get why people always wanted Ironside for Sam Fisher. I know that feeling now.

Man that ESRB bumper in the beginning was obnoxious. I wonder how much "negotiating" game companies have to do with the aforementioned ratings board when releasing their trailers.

Couldn't disagree more. I thought Deus-Ex had fantastic CGI trailers leading up to it, and it got me pumped for the game good and proper. This trailer was pretty damn good as well, I look forward to see what they got with this game.

I haven't played a Thief game since the very first one. I loved it, but just haven't been able to bring myself back to play them again.

Can anyone tell me what the best Thief games were, and if you think they'd run on Windows 7? I wouldn't mind playing one again.

All of them are great, Thief 2 is very similar to the first Thief and uses the same engine. Thief 3 is probably the weakest of the 3 but is still a great game and it has one of the most scary levels in video games. You can get all of the 3 from Steam and they run great on Windows 7.

Still not enough shown to comment on the gameplay, except what the screenshots already confirmed: lockpicking will be present, as will a mechanical bow. Also, is that a flashbomb Garrett drops?

Only major thing to note here, as others in these comments have, is the lack of Stephen Russell. The voice actor doing Garrett's voice in this trailer captures the essence of Garrett's voice well, yes, but it isn't the same. As someone else mentioned, given how many NPCs Russell voiced in Skyrim, he's still doing stuff for games. So why isn't he Garrett in the new Thief game? I mean seriously, why not?

Also nice to see his mechanical eye gleaming, and I liked the line about some seeing thieving as being like a ghost--my preferred playstyle.

As a longtime Thief fan, I'm still cautiously excited to see more of this game. After all, Deus Ex: HR was good. (I haven't played the latest Hitman, though).

@twhalen: I wouldn't comment on the quality of the voice actor, but the lines at least sound nothing like Garrett at all, as far as I can tell. From what I remember, he was more sardonic than smooth. Maybe the whole thing is going in a less "noir" direction, but having Garrett even utter the word "heist" is kinda jarring.

Whatever, it's been years since I played these games, so what do I know? I'm hoping it turns out just fine either way.

Now, watch it be awesome and sell 2 mil copies out the gate, followed by Square saying, "Sorry Eidos, Thief didn't perform up to our bloated, unrealistic expectations... You're all fired. Have a nice day!"

Kinda shocked how few comments there are on this, reboots tend to get people talking one way or another.

As little as we gain from a minute long CG trailer it didn't look like it's falling that far from the original Thief tree. Obviously this is all pending the dubstep fueled gameplay trailer at E3.

I really think the existence of Dishonored prematurely took the wind out of this announcement's sails.

Fuck yeah they are. Also so many people were bitching about the change of voice actor for Garrett in other sites (e.g. Facebook, Youtube, etc.) like people did with Agent 47 some time before the release of Absolution (wherein they ended up using the original voice actor anyway) and by bitching I mean just absolute dismissal of the game. We're lucky that we're getting another Thief game in the first place and at the very least we should be happy about that.

Though this is basically a trailer from the Eidos branch of Square-Enix which has been probably the only truly profitable arm of Square-Enix despite Square-Enix trying to shift the blame away from themselves.

Final Fantasy XIV has been probably a very costly blunder for Square Enix and now they have spent almost 2 years basically building an entirely new game.

Somehow Square-Enix as a company has lost cash despite games like tomb raider (sold about 3.4 million copies), hitman absolution (sold about 3,6 million copies) and sleeping dogs (sold about 1,75 million copies) selling pretty decently.

If figures like these arent enough to be profitable as a company then I guess that games as a form of entertainment are done for.

Kinda strange with the choice of voice actor here. Over the years there've been numerous high-quality fan mods of the Thief 1, 2, and 3, and several of them have amateur voice actors that imitate Stephen Russell preeeetty well. I guess it's a hard sell to expect them to track one of those guys down...
