Garrett the Thief Is Hella Thievin' in the Latest Thief Trailer

I know its the internet, people, but do all of you in the comments have to be COMPLETE PRICKS?

Yay, a mystical mumbo-jumbo storyline, my favorite.....

This trailer is painfully cliche, but I'll give this game a shot.

This reflects how I feel. I don't see what people are bitching about. Then again why did I dare read the comment section on a video. Sometimes I just can't help but look, even though it may ruin my outlook somewhat on a video.

I love the old Thief games, but this is not even close. some jazzed up next gen piece of shit - done as only Microsoft or Sony could tell their minions to ruin it with B-grade Hollywood trailers :(

Dishonored 2 - now that would be awesome :)

For a game that is about stealth, I find the "Epic" approach of the trailer awkward. It's not some random Fantasy Movie, but a game about a Thief. You know, subtlety. Not guns blazing on a Hollywood gazillion dollars scale.

Also, is it unfair to compare that game to Dishonored? I just can't stop thinking about Dishonored every time I see footage of Thief.

Hoping that Russell will at least be reprising his role as Benny...

Is that lady suppose to be a grownup version of the pickpocket orphan girl from the end of Deadly Shadows?

All this needs is for Garret to slow walk from an explosion without looking behind him.

So I saw all these negative comments and watched the trailer expecting it to be crap but...it looks fine to me. Sure there's typical action movie music playing and the spunky girl sidekick will probably be annoying, but the gameplay, the setting, even Garret's voice all seem pretty much like old Thief to me. My only fear is the levels will be more linear, set piece CoD/Uncharted than the old sanbox Thief games were.

@foolishchaos: do yourself a favor and play thief 2. It's worth playing.

Looked pretty cool. I've heard bad things about the last build of this game back in E3, hoping it's gotten better.

How does this keep happening. How do people get together and go "you know what was keeping all the previous Thief games back? All that personality"

I'm gonna go ahead and say that this looks absolutely fine. I played the hell out of past Thief games and nothing about these trailers screams bad the way the press does.

I guess we'll have to wait and see, but I'm looking forward to it either way.

I honestly couldn't make it through this trailer. The density of cliched action movie melodrama was too great.

@cybertification: Yeah, it's sad they can't stick to the hybrid shadowplay aesthetics of the previous games' cutscenes. They instead have to sacrifice Garrett on the altar of motion-captured, triple-A derpness that nobody asked for, because... because...

I dunno. Just so it can look like other games, I suppose. The nail that sticks up must be hammered down.

I think they game looks fine if a little bland, people love to complain about stuff they've never touched.

I hope the gameplay doesn't end up being shit, because all this whinging is completely over the top. This is modern feeling trailer, yes, but it's clearly evocative of the Thief world. It might be an overly dramatic, action-heavy video but at least visually it seems exactly what I'd expect extrapolating from the last game up to today's tech. Urgh... gamer fans are the worst...

I see a lot of people saying this - how so? I think Garrett looks odd physically, like thats not exactly how I remember the character looking, and the "sneaking" suit looks a bit iffy - but considering that probably for the majority I won't see my face nor most of my body that isn't a huge issue. Is everyone complaining about this game having a story now? Because thats a good thing. Or is it the whole occult business? Cause that was always there as well - even more so in Deadly Shadows where you got those awesome runes near the end. Not to mention how crazy and intense the end of that game got overall, hiding around town with those creepy ass wraiths whispering your name in your mind?

I'm not sure what audience they think they're going to capture with this. The homogeneous AAA market claims another victim, I suppose.

I am glad that this is a canonical sequel to the previous trilogy. I hope they don't force a lot of combat later into the game. That was always when Thief games got boring to me. I love the first two but man...when they want you to fight I wanted to just turn the games off.

@amyggen You said one thing that sort of set me off: "in the highest difficulty". In the base game you could kill all you wanted to as long as you hid the bodies out of another patrolling guards path. The games still wanted you to fight a lot. Hell, the last half of the first Thief game had you either running away or fighting demon creatures, so lets not act like combat in a Thief game is weird or something. Perhaps we should just a product when its actually released and you play it?

Yeah, Thief 3 ain't bad. I think the main criticism leveled at it was that their development priority was for the console version. This meant that the UI and size of game play areas for the PC version suffered as a result. I found it annoying that the engine was designed in such a way (because of the memory limitations of the original X-Box) that it could not load an entire level in one go. It was often split into two or more chunks.

@renzu: But the reasoning behind it is awful, why would they have to show Garret!? It's a first person game, you can't see him!
