AMERICAN!

This is actually one of the games I'm looking forward to the most, this year :)

American McGee

Posted by SaturdayNightSpecials

Brad don't have time to shave.

This game looks pretty neat. Nice to see a fictional setting other than space or medieval fantasy land for once.

Posted by MysteriousBob

I still don't understand why this guy had his name in the first game's title. All I know him from is... American McGee's Alice. I think he also worked on Doom but he isn't exactly the first name you think of when it comes to Doom.

Posted by endaround

So is American McGee Brad in 10 years?

It wasn't his idea to put his name on the game. The publisher thought it sounded better so he said ok.

Looks pretty effing awesome.

That was a really good interview that bolstered my confidence in this game.  The original is one of those games that sticks with you, this should be a proper sequel.  Or reboot, or whatever.

Posted by bassman2112

As a huge fan of the original, this made me smile real big =) Glad to see they're putting as much care as possible into it, and cool to see some of the changes in gameplay.

When Brad is talking about "the fiction" and "the fanbase" does he mean those of the first game, or of the classic story?

I get the feeling this is a game we are supposed to care about - but I'm not sure why. I don't remember the first one being a big deal, but maybe I'm wrong.

Maybe - but I didn't see any buttons on American's shoulders

@Beb: The first one was a huge deal when it came out. I'm sure other people could agree that  no one ever saw anything like "Beyond The Wall". that level was insane. Period.
Posted by Jonnyflash80

The first game was awesome and something I still remember in great detail to this day, so I am super pumped for the sequel.

Posted by Andheez

Looks good.  Anyone know the price point on this?

Posted by ViciousReiven

Never seen the man himself before, I always thought his name was a gimmick, but that's pretty awesome.
Anyway the game itself looks amazing, I wasn't a huge fan of the original but I thought it was pretty cool, glad to see a more robust combat system though.

Huh, had no idea American McGee was an actual dude's name..

Posted by TorMasturba

Not really feeling it...

Posted by buckybit

"domain-specific domains..." - we called it "levels" back in our days.

Posted by Baggykins

Still not entirely convinced...

Still looks like a God of War clone...

Gotta agree with the publishers. Putting the name there (especially that name) made it stand out from hundreds of retellings of Alice in other media and the few crappy Alice video games before it.

wait, june?? already? aaaah too many cames coming out!! (again)

Posted by MachoFantastico

American McGhee is a weird dude, not always for the better. But I'll wait and judge the full game first, still not sure.

Did enjoy the first game though.

What exactly did you think the title meant? :P
Posted by Slaker117

American seems like way too normal of a guy to have that name.

Posted by eulogize_my_baked_goods

Would like to know what that cut at the end was for... seemed a bit random.

Looking forward to this.

American! what a great name for a person. Spicy Horse! what a great name for a game developer.

Really Interested for this.

Me neither.

I imagine his parents as Bioshock Infinite characters.

Posted by chickdigger802

It's always nice hearing about game development that was planned out well.

Let's hope the quality shows. No excuses for bugs now eh =P

@Slaker117:
He's always been a serious, creative dude. I think his name just exemplifies his mother's eccentricity

Amazing, since it looks more like the original game. So if that's the case, is God of War an Alice clone?
Posted by rpratts

I really liked the 1st game and I can  not wait for this one to come out.

Posted by ptys

Brad's so cool. Love how he asks actual questions and engages with the developer on a more personal level rather than allowing them to rant about how great their game is.

Posted by Psykhophear

Great interview.

Posted by MisterMouse

he seems like a cool guy.

Posted by RVonE

I really liked the first game and I find myself stoked for this sequel. This American guy seems really cool, by the way.
Posted by kerse

I'm really excited for this game and I don't know why, I never even played the first one.

Posted by RockinKemosabe

Somebody unlocked an achievement for the game in the background.

American is a pretty rad dood.  Still sad that he never got that Oz project off the ground.  C'est la vie.  Alice 2 is looking pretty damn boss, and I'm looking forward to checking it out just like everything American does.  He really works best in the land of fairy tales.

He had, a very strange upbringing...to say the least.

Mcgee said this about his name:
"My mom was a hippie, I'm not sure how else to put that... She claims a woman she knew in college, who named her daughter 'America', inspired the name. She also tells me that she was thinking of naming me 'Obnard'. She was and always has been a very eccentric and creative person."

You should read up on his story here on Giantbomb...it's...very enlightening.

American's mom was a really big hippie and was inspired by a woman she knew in college who named her daughter America. She also thought about naming him Obnard.

American McGee in China....... the joys of cheap engineering labor.

Posted by LobsterCrunk

Hearing that the gameplay is more about puzzles is actually making me interested in this game.  I wasn't that sold on the idea of Alice in a hack'n'slasher or something like that - which is how I had thought the game would be - but I love me some puzzle-platformers.

By the way, guys, nice interview :3
