Nice

This...doesn't really sound very good to me.

Posted by EgoCheck616

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Scribblenauts definitely sold me on the fact that these guys are committed to building unique experiences.

Now just bring it to PSN and you'll have my money.

Seems really cool

Not for me. Removing free movement seems like a bit of a dumb step.

That looks sweet.

This brings whole new meaning to dumbing it down. Doesn't sound very fun to me, but I'm so sick of every game just being a copy of something else that I'm willing to look into this at least. Assuming it comes out on PC, which it won't, anyway.

Well they're actually trying to do something new, whether that would be for the benefit of the gameplay, I remain unconvinced. Although, if they somehow found a way to affect the nature of these so called focus points, like make them some kind of resource and therefore something to fight over, it could be interesting.

Man, these 5th Cell guys really know how to make movement tedious and cumbersome.

I would be surprised if they didn't have that, at least in different game types.

This seems like a game you need to try before you discount it. Brad said he liked it.

@creamypies:  That's what's made me pretty interested too. I'll definitely try it out. I really like the idea of a bot friend they described too.

Glad to see people sound interested in a NEW IDEA. :O Even more glad to see developers trying these radical ideas too.

Seems pretty cool, plus since its a XBLA it won't be too expensive.

Posted by RagingLion

Hmm, so that's how this game is different.  It's interesting stuff - might just be different enough to earn themselves a committed audience but  they'll have a job communicating to people that they've basically got a strategy game layered on the top for those FPS players with different expectations that will find it hard to adjust.  On second thoughts, I guess they just won't be trying to sell it to those guys, but people who like a bit of FPS but want something different.

This is like the antithesis to Vanquish. Instead of being innovative and different by adding to the Gears of War formula, it's being innovative and different by dumbing it down. Kind of like the Uncharted games, only those don't take that much away, and are still pretty enjoyable, while this game's combat seems to be Red Dead Redemption levels of boring.

Posted by Rattle618

Steam release please? This sounds very interesting and fresh... if it works.

Edited by PhatSeeJay

Looks fun. I'll happily try it.

Posted by mbkish

I really want to try out those controls.

Posted by Nikral

This looks pretty interesting! I might actually end up buying it.

Posted by onarum

I really don't like the idea of not having direct control of my character, that sounds incredibly restrictive.

Exactly what I was thinking. That was a cool game.
Posted by RichieJohn

seems cool. I trust them to make an interesting game.

Posted by SSully

Thought it sounded dumb without the movement at first, but the squad stuff looks very cool, and the cover being all over the place (like on ceilings and stuff) is a nice addition. I just wonder how they will counter camping. I know they have those ninja bots, but what if you dont have any bot points and an enemy is camping?

Posted by RedRocketWestie

At first, it sounded weird and dumb, but the more I hear, the more I think this is a positive step in an interesting direction. I wouldn't be surprised if we see refinement on this concept in the years to come.

Rockstar's magnum opus boring? That really hurt my feelings!

Brad has such good interview chops haha

Man, lots of negativity. Personally, I think this looks really cool, like a fast paced Full Spectrum Warrior. Can't say for sure whether I'll put down money for it, but they've got my interest piqued for the eventual Quick Look.

Red Dead nailed the setting and was incredibly atmospheric, but combat-wise, with the ridiculous auto-aim, the bullet time and the weak enemies, it was basically My First Third-Person Shooter: Wild West Edition.

i will never buy it... looks boring if i am honest. Dull graphics and gameplay, and seem incredibly generic even though they are claiming its not. This will be their biggest failure to date. Hardly anyone will buy it sadly. Because no one bought Vanquish which was incredible, and this appear to be similar to it, but looks worse.

Five o' clock Brad

Posted by AaronChance

The only problem with this game is the movement speed is TOO DAMNED SLOW. If the players moved at twice the speed, it would be great.

NEVER!

Anyway, looks cool, don't know what people are worried about, day 1 purchase for me. ^_^

I think its pretty cool that they're trying something different, hope it turns out good.

Posted by ThaMilkMan

sounds interesting, hard to say whether a game is good or not when a) It's not even finished and b) I haven't put my hands on it, but definitely an interesting concept that will undoubtedly live or die by the interesting concept. At this point I don't think all the negativity is warranted though, I do agree about game speed though, make movement faster dudes!

Posted by fitzoperfecto

It would be awesome if 5th Cell released the alpha or beta of the game to the community to try out first and give feedback.  In that case, they could avoid bad control/feel issues prior to making a sequel that improves on that basic level of character interaction which was lacking in the game.  Also, it may convince people that the controls work.  Who knows?

Like the idea.  Really want to try it out.  PAX East?

Posted by Feigr

It's refreshing to hear a developer say that they don't even know when it's coming out, instead of hearing some bullshit PR response to that question. Great interview!

@creamypies: That just solved a mystery in my head. Something seemed oddly foreign about this to me, but at the same time, oddly familiar. Boom, Full Spectrum Warrior.

I'm down. Give me that XBLA trial, and I'm sure I'll end up spending the $15 (assumed).

5th Cell always finds a way to surprise me. They're damn good at what they do.

I'll try it

This looks extremely interesting.

The gameplay ideas sound kinda interesting, it's a shame they have chosen such a generic visual style, I mean, it's Halo mixed with Mass Effect, right?
