Is bad at the game; ergo, the game must be bad. Yep, its a Brad Quick Look. As for the jumping lag, it isn't present on the PS3 version. To reiterate on what everyone else has said, DUCK, for the love of all things sacred, DUCK!!!

This may be an unpopular opinion but...

World of Illusion > Castle of Illusion. DEAL WITH IT, SOCIETY!

@timing: I know, it's so exciting. :D

Posted by bmehlers

@eternalgamer2: Did you not hear the button presses and see the lag near the end of the video? There's at least a half second of lag.

SNES Aladdin is better fyi

Sometimes I wonder how Brad has beaten any video game.

For what it's worth I also died about 10 times before realising that I just have to duck. Then I felt like an idiot. Now I feel a bit better.

Is it me, or does the narrator at the beginning sound a lot like the narrator from 500 Days of Summer?

You're correct, it's Richard McGonagle. He also voiced sully in Uncharted.

The sound design sounds a little obnoxious.

At least you always know what to expect in a Brad helmed quicklook.

I played the fuck out of World of Illusion with my brother and sister as a kid.

My favorite Mickey game was Mickey Mania for the Genesis, though (again, the superior Mickey-game version). Probably an unpopular opinion, but something about that game just struck a cord with me.

How do I avoid the punch?

*spend a lot of time in the next level ducking*

Nope, not seeing it!

Dat's my Brad. :)

So duck? That's the thing?

I want an HD version of Maui Mallard, that game was so much fun. If they keep remaking their old platformers maybe it'll happen...

Amen brother.

Loving the title of this Quick Look, hating the jump delay in the game itself.

Posted by mnzy

Not sure how I feel about that spring punch attack. It should be telegraphed because of the design of the jump, but how to dodge the attack is also inconsistent. Even when dodging the attack Mickey was still kinda clipping through the glove so it may be an animation which takes its hitbox with it? I'm not too sure.

Well, you're supposed to duck it.

Mice can't jump.

Posted by Nev

Man, the title of this really confused me for a moment there. I was thinking this was just an oddly titled trailer. I'm glad it IS a Quick Look, though. >_>

Posted by MocBucket62

Wow that jump delay is terrible! I can see the frustration the Brad and Jeff have with that and sort of ruins some of the cool level design in this game. Though yeah, should of ducked that boxing glove there Brad.

Another quality Sega release?

Good God. It's 2013. When did Mario come out? We pretty much had input latency locked down by then. How do we continue sucking this bad 30 years later?

Ahhh who am I kidding. The mistakes never change, just the faces.

Don't worry about it Brad. If I had to play a platformer for the public, I'd do just as bad. Countless times I've managed to get past a level flawlessly - then when my brother watches, I die virtually instantly.

Posted by Curious_George

I don't know anything about this lag some people are reporting because I didn't experience any on the PC version. Could this be a 360 problem? I found the game completely charming through its short but very enjoyable run. I loved the original back in the day as well and was relieved when this wasn't a complete let down like the Ducktales remake.

I am constantly amazed by Brad's vocal range.

Doesn't really look like it's something you can duck too, to be fair.

Original game kinda had a hub... you went from level to level in the castle

Yeah, I don't think this one was really Brad's fault, unless people want to blame him for not remembering the boss fight from the original.

Ducking just isn't an intuitive action in 3D platformers, since you so rarely need it and many don't even have it. Granted, the normal levels and that particular moment are in 2D, but most of that boss fight plays just like a normal boss fight would in SM64 or DK64. If the duck in this is controlled just by holding down rather than a specific button, that makes it even less intuitive for that fight, since 'down' just moves you around the stage before and after the brief transition to 2D.

It's a really weird way to shoehorn the old boss battle into what seems like a good 3D version.

Posted by BigFuzzyHat

Between the instruments and the screen transition I'm getting a banjo kazooie vibe from this. Looks good though.

Posted by Willin

This game feels to me like if 1998 Rare made a Mickey Mouse game for the N64. The music alone sounds like it fell out of Banjo Kazooie.

Yeah, World of Illusion was way better. There was also Quackshot, but that one is really bad, actually. Replayed it last year. It was appalingly simple and boring.

The latency on the jumping was a problem for them before, wasn't it? Some other game that didn't have latency issues outside of their setup? I think that really shitty Mega Man clone.

Edited by The_Ruiner

Every time I see Brad messing up at a game. I wonder if it's somehow just Brad. I'm not saying it's fair....I'm just saying it is.

Maybe unpopular but I 100% agree with you. Basing levels off classic Mickey Mouse cartoons was sheer genius. That Steamboat Willie opening? Thinking about that in HD gives me chills.

Edited by CornBREDX

I've been playing this today. The jump is indeed old school unresponsive. Games still fun though- allbeit sometimes frustrating.

The narrator is the narrator from Jurassic Park you guys. The guy who narrates the interactive tour guide in the cars. They "spared no expense"!

Edit: Actually, on PC its not really that bad. It seems pretty responsive to me. Must be different on XBOX.

Posted by Adrian79

Glad that Brad mentioned Magic Quest, that was an awesome game and one of my top 5 favourite SNES games ever, Castle of Illusion was also brilliant.

Posted by Nigthguy

Guys stop making fun of Brad. Ducking is hard

Edited by UltimAXE

Funny thing is that while playing this on the PC the first thing I noticed is how the jump occurs exactly when I pressed the jump button because they usually fuck that up and make the jumps all laggy in these 2.5D games. Then I watch this QL and see/hear the lag on the 360 version. What a shame.

So, to reiterate, get this on the PC. No controller lag there.

Also, I was expecting Jeff and Brad to gush over how you can listen to the original OST instead of the new orchestrated score, since they usually dig stuff like that. Probably didn't know about it.

Posted by tropesage

@eternalgamer2: What do you mean impossible to know? At around the 18 mark you can hear them hit the jump button and see that the jump is delayed.

Edited by DeXterminator

Just downloaded the demo to see how bad the input lag is. Seriously not noticing any input lag at all on the Xbox version. I am confused as to why it is so bad for you guys. I'm using an official xbox wireless controller. Jump seems to happen when I hear the click of the button....

After trying the Apple run section...I now do notice a split second delay when trying to make the final jump, which I missed several times. My Bad...

Posted by xbob42

@dexterminator: Different TVs have different delays, and different people can notice the difference in input lag at different levels.

Edited by Castiel

I played the demo and the jumping didn't seem laggy at all.

Also I haven't seen the quick look yet, I'm just responding to what I see in the comments. But I guess this is one of those cases where Brad doesn't initially like the game and therefore gets overly picky and suddenly everything sucks about the game. "The jumping feels terrible, I mean LOOK at that. I pushed the jump button and he totally DIDN'T jump!"

No, Brad, you didn't push the jump button. :/

Also all of this is pure speculation, since I still haven't seen the QL.
