What a bomb to drop before moving. Scoops seems to get the best.... well scoops. Also I am kind of surprised by the responses. From, "Aw man, but now I can't share games?" to "Yesssss, I can finally pre-order One!" are pretty much the opposite from what I expected.

Two things here. 1) I inadvertently had just popped a bag of popcorn and sat down in front of my PC to watch this video and eat popcorn and drink a can of pop. Which I find hilarious for some reason.

2) Does this complete reversal of their plans mean that they are going to change the name to X-Box 180?

How many dollars is it worth to go disc free? I'd probably buy digitally if it was $10 more expensive just so I don't have transport those darn discs around. Hopefully this doesn't ruin the possibility of digital prices equaling or beating retail.

What? If anything, digital versions may be cheaper as a further incentive to buy new, and a way to combat used games. Not to mention it actually requires fewer resources and less money to just copy some data, rather than pressing discs, boxing and wrapping copies, filling orders, shipping, etc. Sure, the whole sharing idea may be dead now, which is unfortunate, but the digital future likely (well, hopefully) means better prices.

It's a day full of win. Though I'm with others in the question of how does this affect digital sharing. That was actually more relevant to me than sharing and lending because I liked the idea of letting someone else who lives in another state be able to play my game. Neat idea.

It's about time someone got around to investigating the Lang Zone.

Now we know why Scoops got his meetings cancelled at E3. They must fear his scooping.

Why is patrick getting so much praise? An anonymous source willingly gave him info that was getting announced today anyway. Stop treating this like it's All the Presidents Men.

Well after E3 Microsoft had to do something to change things, they just simply couldn't afford to keep going down the route they were taking and just taking hits left and right from just about all the media, gamers, internet bloggers and even while they were being interviewed and then at the E3 2013 Sony press conference Sony just saying FUCK IT and FUCK DRM just completely changed everything. There was no real financial gain to go out and buy the X-1 with all that restriction there just wasn't so me personally thought that something had to be done and really kind of expected this. With the Launch so far away still there was always plenty of time to do a FULL REVERSAL on their entire DRM policies, but actually seeing them come right out and saying they've scrapped DRM publicly was something I didn't expect. It was the only logical way to prevent the X-1 from being a complete catastrophe but didn't expect MS to backtrack quite so much.

This is great news for people who love the xbox and great for gamers and everyone who spoke out about this whole DRM bullshit because its extremely bad for the gaming industry and breaks the entertainment value of this industry in a big way. Lets not get ahead of our selves though, Sony still had the best line up of games by far, yes X-1 had good games, but it was nothing along the stella tittles Sony are releasing with the PS4 so does this reallllllly affect or change anything in the long run? (not really) from a games standpoint but you will still have the xbox minions falling over themselves that MS have done this reversal.

People are calling this an all out war especially right after Sonys Press conference as well... What I do think what Sony will do to counter act this is go back to basics with their PS3 model and make multiplayer free and remove it from the play station + price model they had which was a copy of xbox live essentially. This brings back the center of attention into the consoles which is all about the games, and not having to pay for any multiplayer gaming is definitely the apatite you'd want.

Lets not also forget... The whole Xbox One's architecture is BUILT around these DRM features and restrictions, there is ZERO GUARENTEE's that Microsoft cannot just simply turn all this stuff back on 2 years into the X-1's life, they'll be able to turn all this stuff on at anytime they want as its part of the engineering code, do you really want to run the risk of Microsoft doing just that after you've all bought it?

Why is it so important who says it first? Why is that a thing? I don't get it.

He wasn't the first one but only Whathifi.com and him had actually got stories out making claims about this before official confirmation came(the other sites were just citing these two as source) so he's pretty much right there with Whathifi.com in breaking the story.

This is probably the most exciting console generation in a long time...and it hasn't even begun yet! This is just complete and utter madness on all fronts.

For me this still doesn't change the fact that I was planning on getting a PS4 at launch and an xbone sometime later. I love the Forza series and Titanfall looks awesome. But I still don't want to pay for a kinect that I don't want to use.

How are you supposed to rely on a partner that apparently has no real plan, no messaging, no confidence and not enough balls so stand up for his decision.

I was a big proponent of the direction MS was going in. In a way, I suppose I feel a minute form of betrayal.

And the saddest part is that MS is just losing more people with this. This doesn't make up for the fact that they had those policies - not to the people who actually cared, at least. They're still $100 more expensive, still have way too much functionality that the average gamer doesn't want or need, and still force you to have the Kinect plugged in (and ostensibly looking at you).

Microsoft is winning no friends with this move. All they're doing is showing everyone that they have no idea what they're doing.

Well now I feel more comfortable buying an Xbox One. I just need to wait for the price to come down at least a little, and a couple of games come out that are exclusive to it which I am interested in. Sunset Overdrive couldbe one of those titles, if it can live up to the promises of that trailer.

Either way, I'm definitely still going to be picking up PS4 for their content (which both interests me more right now and also is actually an exclusive rather than also coming to PC). So don't panic too much, Sony.

That said, I'm sure plenty of people who are deep into the 360's infrastructure will be super relieved that they can stick to the system they are already invested in with achievements, friend lists and the such like. So good job on that front, Microsoft.

People, come on, don't be gullible. They had this whole concept of "futureproofing" the console with their ideas that ignored everything the consumer said. It was so draconian in comparison to Sony, and that made the whole world cry so loud that they had to change their whole concept just to be sure they make a profit. They are now doing something they don't agree with, and I can't trust them that they won't make some crazy shit up again. It's $100 more expensive, the hardware is weaker, the controller is not better and there are less exclusive. If you don't agree with my first point (being that we have to stand up against corporations or they will do whatever the fuck they want), you clearly see the facts I listed in the end. If you have money, get all three consoles, if not, there is no question that the PS4 is more bang for even less buck.

What I meant is, if we support Microsoft now, it just means everyone can try to get away with crazy policies and then correct them afterwards, if we show them we are not impressed by their "change", we will ensure that all future ideas are consumer orientated firstly
