Just another hook.. At some point all of this will make for a pretty big gap between experienced and newbie players. Does matchmaking take level into account?

im okay with this

All the PC footage of BF3 really has made this game look absolutely dreadful in comparison

Posted by wafflez

Seems like it would make the game unbalanced (or more so)

Pierce. Your. Ears.

Rich get richer. It's a good design in that it keeps people playing, but it makes it harder to break in as a newbie.

More grinding...

To bad I will be playing Skyrim. This game should have come out 2 years ago, when I was still playing those types of shooters. :/

Posted by dillinger

gah, this looks the same as the last 231908319031 call of duty games. how do they continue to sell so many copies

Posted by Intro

The weapons don't kick as it is, why do you need a weapon upgrade for making it kick less?

Posted by chikin_n_rofls

Not gonna lie, this looks pretty good. Plus, COD is probably the only franchise where I feel like I stand a chance online.

Posted by crimsonlordofwar

Weapon Proficiency???Soooo.....like Battlefield?

Posted by Chtasm

"Trophy"system looks cool. No more lobbing grenades in the general direction of a Domination point and stopping the capture.

I want to be the Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer HR guy:

"Do you like FPS development? And are you willing to pierce your ears? No? Well thanks for coming in."

Posted by thatdutchguy

shit game

Posted by bcc

I'm sure this will still sell tons of copies but it really seems like people are starting to get tired of the formula.

I don't get why they don't do it the other way around, give new players access to all the gear, but give more points for harder kills that require more skill, like killing someone from a distance without using a red dot sights or scopes, making really good players rise to the top of the leader board faster by rewarding those choosing not to use accessories that make it easier to hit with the weapons, while giving the newbies all the stuff they need to stay alive a bit longer so they can start to learn the game mechanics and weapon balancing.

Even more reason for people to use nothing but the FAMAS/AKS-74u/whatever this time then!

The problem with that is, it pretty much eliminated the carrot on the stick effect. Unlocking stuff and getting better guns is the hook of these games, it is what makes it fun for people (like me) who aren't great at this game. A good player is gonna be a good player regardless of what you give them, it's about keeping bad players interested by giving them things that may help them do better.

Here, wear a CoD T-Shirt... hrmmm... Naaahhh, not enough. Throw this CoD hoodie on over top of it for good measure. Yeah. That's the ticket!

That video pretty much encapsulates every thing that I dislike about this franchise. They try to market these changes under the pretense of giving players "more freedom" but in reality all they're doing is further decreasing the skill gap and making a shallower gameplay experience. I don't begrudge anyone who is excited for this game and I hope that you enjoy playing it, but I'm definitely passing on this.

Posted by Jerome85

@Fosssil: MAKE YOUR OPINION KNOWN.. RAWRRRRR I don't comment on games I have no interest in playing. Pardon me but I had to laugh at you!

I don't know...I don't trust men with ear jewelry.

GRRRR I HATE CALL OF DUTY GRRRR!!!!

Posted by Jerome85

Come Nov 8th all the haters will come out in full force when COD once again shatters another sales record.

Posted by Thor_Molecules

I think it's quite a neat system, I am concerned about the balancing though.

But damn, this game looks literally 100% the same as Modern Warfare 2. If you would cut this trailer with MW2 footage, people wouldn't even be able to tell the difference.

Posted by Theresonlyone

@Jerome85: Anything can win if it appeals to the lowest common denominator. CoD, Wii, The Sun Newspaper and the republican party are all good examples.

They could always let you unlock animated weapon skins or something as you level up!

The more I see about Modern Warfare 3, the more that I want to play it. The Trophy System is something that should've been in the game a long time ago to cut down on grenade spams. That will definitely make the objective game modes a bit less frustrating. I also like the idea of weapon proficiency finally being introduced to the series, as it will be MUCH better than the damn CoD Points setup in Black Ops. I always found that I only used about three or four guns total because they were the weapons I was comfortable with, and the idea of finally getting the chance to make those particular weapons better is something that I'm most definitely interested in. At the same time, it could easily be something that makes me try out different weaponry to see if getting proficiency in them will make them more viable for me and my play style.

As for the haters, whatever. Hate on a popular game. As much as people may hate the idea, CoD is the Quake and Unreal of the 21st century right now. It may not be sci-fi, and it may have a slower pace than those games, but it is still one of the most fast-paced shooters that continues to focus on deathmatch gameplay that exists.

How is any of this decreasing skill cap? Yeah, it's giving newbies and people that aren't as good at the game the ability to have fun and enjoy the product, but at the same time, anyone who is skilled and good at the game is going to...the majority of the time...stomp other people in the game. People have tried using the excuses of "corner campers" and "grenade spammers" and everything under the sun. When it comes down to it, a skilled person will always be better than newbies. Any skilled player that needs to hang on to these excuses of "oh, they're decreasing the cap" and "stupid newbies blah blah blah" need to pull the stick out of their ass and realize that EVERYONE is allowed to play a video game and enjoy themselves, that it's not always some tournament competition.

I'm genuinely excited for this game. Between adding a new streak system that doesn't reset when you get killed (good for folks who don't rack up a fat K/D ratio - like me!) and all these tweaks to weapon upgrades, I feel like I'm going to have a good time playing MW3. It also looks like they kept the customizeable red dots from CODBLOPS; if they continue to let you dive headfirst through windows like an idiot, I may be in heaven.

MW3, AC:Revelations, Skyrim, the PC version of Batman, and Anno 2070... this November is shaping up to be one of the best months for new releases in years.

THEY DUN GONE AND FLIPPED THE SCRIPT. AGAIN.

Posted by R_Coles

These changes seem logical. Nothing wrong with mixing it up a bit, we'll see how it balances out.

Posted by Fosssil

@Jerome85: You're right. I don't find this game to be appealing, therefore I have absolutely no business sharing my contrary opinion here. The comment section for a new game trailer should be a place of only mindless positivity about said game with zero criticism.

Get a clue.

I wouldn't say it looks that bad. But it does look last gen.

I'm not against ear piercing on guys since I have mine done. But theirs looked a little odd to me since they were so low. You normally don't get them that low unless you're going to double or triple pierce the lobes. I knew I wasn't going to do that, so mine are closer to the middle.

Posted by RE_Player1

It's good they are showing footage of the Wii version for trailers.

Posted by Echoes83

Is it just me or has MW, or CoD in general really gotten away from the point of it all? By that I mean it doesn't seem focused on being a solid shooter anymore and instead focuses on being a vending machine of bombast. It really feels like there is a solid shooter under all that junk, but you'd be hard pressed to actually enjoy the actual shooting instead of the kill/ die/ kill cycle in the hunt for the next kill streak reward.

I can't help but feel that what they added onto the shooter part of the game really doesn't add anything, at least not what they added past MW1. Although I never liked kill streaks, though obviously I'm in the minority I prefer a more deliberate pace to my shooters, one that allows for more forethought beyond what may be around the next corner or how many more kills to my streak.

Basically it MW3 to me feels like a sundae with every topping in the house piled on top of it when really all I wanted was some ice cream.

I'm not sure how these proficiencies differ from attachments, but it looks like attachments are a part of proficiencies. I don't entirely understand it, but whatever.

I'm excited for MW3 'cause I like deathmatch, and Modern Warfare is pretty much where you go for deathmatch now. Halo is a little too slow-paced for me.

Maaan, that engine is starting to look like Joan Rivers. So many face lifts but you ain't fooling no one, you're ancient!

Posted by Acornactivist

man... it's amazing how much this looks like call of duty.

I've had plenty of fun with COD... but i just dont know how much longer i can do this.

Posted by HairyMike87

I think I'm more interested in people's feelings on the game after a month or so after it's out. I just don't see myself getting back into another CoD that isn't doing anything fresh. I'll wait another two years and see.

Posted by Foggen

I'll be amazed if they can balance all this shit, especially with respect to newer vs high level players.

Posted by StealthRaptor

I still think the worst thing about this series is the sound design. They've been using the same bullet hit sound effects since CoD1.

Darn. The trolls are out in full force tonight. Battlefield 3 still not working? XD

Posted by Th3_James

COD has no recoil, and too much variation between players. If you play more you will do better because of all the stupid shit they give you.

^^^^^This

Also, why is he hitting the people in the footage when he's not actually hitting them. The crosshair is totally off yet there are hitmarkers. (@ around 30 seconds and some other places too)

So they moved some of the perks away from perks and now guns have their own perks? I don't think that's a bad idea, but I don't think it's going to pull me in. Too many shooters, not enough innovation between them.

Wake me up when the next FPS king is crowned.

I am getting this, but i do see the points people make. i am worried about balancing in regards of new players vs pros. With quickscoping being back and all. I enjoy it when all the news stand a chance. Also i think the maps suck in comparison with mw2. Its all the same color scheme. I dont see no Afghan... I really liked the standard maps of mw2.
