Go Off the Beaten Path in Final Fantasy XIII-2

I like the music but that's about the only nice thing I have to say.

@MooseyMcMan: It's not news. WoW is still the most popular game on this site. Yet, no news story on 4.3? That added the the deathwing fight? There were probably 4-5 stories about a bug fix for skyrim. It's a bit silly.

The amount of anime melodrama in a trailer is inversely proportional to how much I care about the game. So well done, whoever produced this!

Why MUST they do the same thing over and over? Why must you have THAT specific game mechanic[s] in order to enjoy a game?

Do you say to yourself? : "Well the graphics, over-all story and battle systems were great and fun, but geez, without some NPCs saying [...] and some shops to sell trash to, I just can't get into it"

I quite liked 13, I felt the characters well realized for the most part. But the two protagonists in this one.. well lets just say they look like hollow JRPG cliche's to me so far.

3. When a game is as buggy as Skyrim, patches being available is news. At least it is to people interested in if the version of Skyrim they are playing will become less buggy.

If you must report on a patch atleast report on idk WoW where 10 million people suddenly have the ability to do tons of new shit? Not skyrim fixting a weird texture bug for 5% of the player base. And for some reason you stopped playing it anxiously awaiting the patch? Its a freaking texture bug? You can't play with the textures messing up? You couldn't uninstall it from the harddrive and play it that way?? How stupid are you people?

the scene at 1:05 reminded me of the Great Hollow from Dark Souls. Ahhh.. bad memories.

Gorgeous environments, but it's Square so that's no real surprise. A bit hesitant on the multiple pathways (and noted multiple endings and story progression) that has been talked about here and other places, as well as Square execs expressing fondness for how WRGPs have done some things. If I wanted a WRPG, I'd play one. One of the things that makes me love JRPGs so much is that it's about telling a good pre-written story (like a book) as opposed to a more watered down story for the sake of 'choice. I quite liked the linearity in XIII, as well as cutting out all the fat to make a much leaner and more enjoyable end product, I thought it was quite forward looking for the genre.

Will have to see exactly how they handle it (one week left!) but it's Square, so I'll have faith. FFs are pretty diverse, so nobody is going to like every single one, I didn't, but they are at least a stamp of quality even if it isn't the type of game you like specifically. Plus I believe Serah is playable, so that's a win right there as well.

I played the demo for this game. I don't get what would make this game any better than the first.

Looks..more Open? don't mind if it's linear again as i one of the few that didn't care about that,just hope they give us something to do other then hunting rare monsters :/.

I love how they had to put "multiple paths to explore" as a feature, when that's basically standard for RPGs in one way or another. Hilarious Japanese attempts at being like the rest of the industry aside, the game looks way better than XIII, and I was one of the the ones that liked XIII.

Also, monster accessories.

I enjoyed XIII as the action-adventure and not RPG it was, but eh.. this will be a late spring purchase unless I get a great bargain bin deal. It would be a non-purchase if I ihadn't ipcked up Xenoblade (EU) already, that's the goddamn JRPG of the generation.

Yeah...no. Skyrim.

The more I see of this, the more it appears as how FF13 should have been had they known what people would have said about it & any complaints about it.

No, you just are in agreement with one half of the populace. In reality the game was not universally reviled as the Internet may have you believe. The truth being that it was divisive with some people who played it found it enjoyable and some people didn't along with that there was a select few who really liked it and a select few who absolutely despised it. Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with XIII-2.

I don't know about this. I guess Square-Enix is trying to redeem itself after the backlash form XIII. I know that by reusing the assets form XIII in this one it saved them time and money, but I think they would have been better served by just making an all new game and not taking 5 years to do it.

I had no issues with the "linear pathing" that 13 had. A couple of loops and dead ends are not as much of a game changer as people make it out to be. I actually didn't much care for the open worldness of 12 and would take 13's battle system over that any day.

I feel the people who hang on the linearity as the "thing that broke the game" just may not be the audience that this style of RPG is for. Give me combat that can still be enjoyed after 2000 fights, a storyline that at least feels impressive (as all RPG stories are cliche), and characters that I don't hate and I am good to go.

Meh.

Still haven't finished XIII, and this will be the first time I skip a console FF game, the battle system in XIII was interesting, but everything else didn't appeal to me at all, and building on the XIII fiction sounds thoroughly uninteresting to me.

Hope this game makes SquareEnix the money they need tho, and with the strong sales of XIII they probably will.
