Well that looked incredibly Dead Island-y.

Hell yeah.

They absolutely re-skinned the walkers and the infected from Dead Island to make the zombies in this trailer.

Edited by JackSukeru

First person wizard staff action! Also..

..Hell Triforce?

That's a different game...

Meh...

An Elder Scrolls like game that actually gets the combat right doesn't sound terrible, although that's assuming this won't just be a dungeon crawl fest.

Posted by Tordah

First-person Diablo? A man can dream...

Posted by Efesell

Hell yeah Hellraid.

Posted by Death_Burnout

I'm hoping it's Techland's A-team working on this and that Riptide's unfortunate existence can be solely put on the B-team...I hope!

I wish it were more 'Romero' Hell, but if they're just gonna re-skin Dead Island with that shit then I am ALL FOR IT.

Hey, guys. Techland is a trademark of Techland. We clear?

Looks like an Oblivion mod.

I'm amazed at their ability to take an entirely new and novel concept and make it look entirely like the game they JUST made... and made AGAIN

Edited by Deadlydog

I hope this is going to be good. I like the combat in Dead Island and if they diversify this combat enough without making it shit this game would be much better. I really don't care for the story as long as hacking people into pieces is fun.

Posted by Veektarius

I don't think it looks terrible, but it probably will be in execution.

This sums up my feelings pretty well. I'm also a shameless loot junkie, and what I'm seeing from that video looks pretty neat. I'm all for a swords-and-sorcery styled Dead Island, and that's exactly what this looks like.

The overpriced and low-quality "sequel" will be called Helltide.

Edited by Elwoodan

and Jeff was worried that all the B-tier game developers were going away :p apparently nothings gonna stop techland.

I thought that said Hellrad at first

So this what happens when you mix Hexen and Dead Island together.

Why do videos look like utter trash on this website? Do I have to have a paid subscription to watch videos that don't look like pixelated garbage?

Edited by Bgrngod

Straight up screaming Heretic. All that looking up and down going on.

If this game doesn't actually have any raids that take place in hell, then they've seriously fucked up.

Edited by sfighter21

....Why was there a Triforce?? *GASP* Is the Master Sword behind that door!!?!?!?

Funny enough, the best viewing alternative subscribers get is the ability to see the Youtube versions of the videos. No idea why that's hidden from regular users on the site since there's nothing stopping them from going to the TheRealGiantBomb channel on Youtube and watching them there.

Then we get the option to directly download the videos and watch them in VLC, which is of course the best video quality option, but adds a bit too many steps than it's worth for most videos.

This turning out well might be too much to hope for, but I'm happy someone is taking a stab at making a new Heretic or Hexen, as it seems neither Id or Raven are interested or capable right now.

It looks like they toned down Painkiller and put it out on the Dead Island engine. Does it have Hell Trucks?

You could just play Dragon's Dogma if you're looking for that sort of thing. Completely underrated and probably does just about everything better than Skyrim.

Hexen + dead island?

Yes Please.

Not really. DD'S fighting system is awesome the rest is boring and uninteresting. Skyrim with that fighting system would be amazing.

Not really. DD'S fighting system is awesome the rest is boring and uninteresting. Skyrim with that fighting system would be amazing.

The fighting system is obviously the highlight. The class and skill system itself is way more interesting promoting experimentation rather than locking you into one path for the next 50 hours. The pawn system is better than the follower system in Skyrim which is almost non existent In DD you get to choose their class, their skills and their behaviors and they learn from enemy encounters to exploit weaknesses in the future.

While the graphics are the one thing that is worse I'd say the world is way more interesting than Skyrim. There are chests with actual loot scattered all over the world. You never go into a dungeon and find a chest with 5 gold pieces and a turnip - there is always something of worth to be found. The monsters are varied and way more fun to fight but that can be chalked up to a better fighting system. The story and quests are more interesting. The main questline in Skyrim is laughably bad apart from maybe that one fight near the end and I didn't encounter many quests that were generally interesting.

Dragons Dogma has some really interesting quests that go deeper than just bring item A to location B. There is one quests that has you escort a young girl around town and depending on how well you do your reward differs greatly. Bumping into her will get you negative points as well as straying or leaving her behind - but all of this is happening in the background without the players knowledge. There was another quest that has you head towards a bandit camp ran by a male hating female leader - if your main character and all your pawns are female you will get a chance to talk to her and get more information, but if you have males in your party you'll have to fight them.

Dungeon layout is better as they are all unique and don't feel like someone re-arranged tiles from another dungeon to make the one you're currently in. Skyrims many caves all felt incredibly one note, not to mention the fact that you were constantly fighting Draugir or Dwemer.

It literally does everything that Skyrim did but with more nuance and complexity. It might not be as shiny, but unlike what Patrick said on the Bombcast, there is usually a lot more going on when you climb a mountain in DD as opposed to when you do so in Skyrim - the difference being that in DD there will probably be something there, unlike the barren wasteland that was Skyrims open world.

Actually Alexis did point out why the Youtube option is subscriber-only for now since the redesign. Here's the quote from this stickied post:

Youtube and why is it a member only feature?

Members also have the option to use the youtube player for our original content. This is a member only feature since we can't display preroll ads on Youtube. Trailers (which would be marked as duplicate content) and locked premium videos are not available on Youtube.

These comments make me terribly sad. A game has already done first person action in a dark dungeon atmosphere with RPG elements correctly multiple times. No not Hexen... For how popular Dark Souls is you think people would bother learning about it's roots.
