Here Are the First 'Few' Minutes of BioShock: Infinite

Few, in this case, translates to just over five minutes. No noteworthy spoilers here, but if you're one of those purists, approach with caution. Or don't. I'm not the boss of you. Do whatever you want. I'm just trying to help, okay?

I was kind of at odds with getting a special edition of this one.

Edit: The note on the door was... odd.

Edit: Also, it is odd that he says "Whats this?" when he is handed something that is his property. Hmmm.

Edit: The whole boat conversation is very suspicious.

Here is my theory:

This is some kind of VR experiment that Dewitt keeps on failing.

Booker's voice is very standard video game protagonist voice man. A little too nolan northy for me.

Sees chair with clearly visible hand-clasps; sits in it anyways. "...A slave obeys," indeed.

They must have been demoing the PC version because that frame rate looked a little too smooth for the visual quality it was producing. This game still looks great even when it was first demoed.

As cool as floating cities are, I kinda wish it spent more time in Maine. I know I'll be taking in the scenery, especially at the top of the lighthouse.

Haha I had no idea it was the same actor who does Kanji until I watched this! Looking at his IMDB page, he's been a whole lot of video games.

I quite liked how the introduction was very reminiscent of BioShock 1.

I'm enjoying the setting and atmosphere, but the dialogue and voice acting doesn't blow me away. I can forsee Booker stating the obvious all the time will be quite annoying. Also the little theatre of the absurd shtick they had at the start could probably have been better written.

Am I the only one getting a clear Close Encounters of the Third Kind allusion with the play and response of the bells and the foghorns?

And obviously it is the chair he is strapped to that is doing the 360.

I was thinking the same thing.

damn, stopped watching after the spoiler alert..

wouldn't it seem more appropriate to make a video to show people with like cuts and stop, like no spoilers what so ever?

you know, just the gameplay stuff not the story stuff.

These kind of videos are retarded. Maybe it's not true of this game. But I definitely played games where I can tell one part was way more polished than the rest of the game due to videos like this.

Personally, I don't see how the very first moments of a game are a spoiler. To me, a spoiler is when I see something out of sequence, which could diminish the impact of a surprising moment or ruin the suspense of an earlier section. The content of this video is the very first thing one sees in the game, and so, in my opinion, doesn't "spoil" anything. Even a particularly shocking opening, like ME2's, for instance, didn't feel "spoiled" when I learned about it, though it would have felt that way if the events were from the middle of the game.

Opinions clearly differ on the matter, though, and honestly, it could be that my opinion is the strange one. As to this video itself, it looks great, though I think the callbacks to the original Bioshock are a bit too on-the-nose.

I've just entered a very ominous lighthouse, there are bloody hand prints on the walls and a man that looks like he was tortured to death... Ooo a chair with hand restraints just appeared out of nowhere, don't mind if I do.

@Vampire_Chibi: It's literally the first 5 minutes of the game. They just put spoiler warning because people will complain if they didn't, but it's the set up for the game. I mean how can it spoil anything when there is nothing to spoil for you? It's not giving away big plot twists or details from later on.

He's in a VR program. He steps out of it and he's in Far Cry 3. Then he steps out of that and he's actually future Desmond from Assassins Creed. Then one more level and he's in Inception 2, planting a persona of Booker Dewitt into someone. Those noises on the lighthouse were him being woken up. The chair part was 'the kick'. Case closed!

the vocal audio could use a lot of work- sounds like straight up talking into microphones as opposed to them actually being in the middle of the ocean. also, they talk completely normal, with no effect of the environemtn, the guy rowing would definitely be tired.

I had that vibe as well, also from the setting and the note with the answer to the puzzle.

I think there's some obvious jiggery-pokery going on here, in typical Bioshock fashion, and that the beginning dialogue has meaning that won't be immediately apparent until later in the game. That said, I can't help but agree that the internal monologue stuff is a bit frustrating. "I guess they want me to sit in this chair." A whole game full of that sort of shit will get old fast.

And while I know it's probably tough to get reliable voice actors for games, I'm thinking that the industry needs a more diverse set of lead voice actors. They're really beginning to all sound identical. This is the guy from The Last of Us, right? Basically the poor-man's Nolan North?

Yeah, that was how I felt about it too. Why aren't they yelling? Trying to have a conversation in a storm isn't easy.
