I just don't have a lot of faith in Inafune-less Megaman games. They don't have a great track-record. I mean sure it has other people in it, but wasn't Namco x Capcom terrible?

The visuals look great but I'm still unclear how you actually play the game. Showing the bottom screen may have helped.

@samdrugbringer: It's an RPG crossover game, but when you zoom down into the little combat screen they have you mashing out combos not unlike a Tales of game. Kind of a hybrid design.

I thought it was some weird fighting game, that actually has me way more interested now since I could play it on my own.

As neat as this trailer is, I can't help but feel that it doesn't really represent the game which it is marketing. Had the description not listed it as a 'strategy RPG' I would have assumed it was some sort of fighting game similar to the Vs series or Card Sagas Wars. Even the extended 10+ minute trailer doesn't help much as it is also almost entirely showing off combat with only the briefest of time spent showing anything else such as characters moving around on a grid in standard turn-based strategy format.

Really, the degree to which they are focusing on the whole 'look at these big, pretty combos devoid of clearly explained mechanics' aspect makes me worry if they simply think the rest of the game doesn't hold up. If you're going to make a turn-based strategy RPG with action elements, you should have enough faith in it in the first place to present it for what it is or you shouldn't make it to being with (or at least cancel it early on so that it doesn't eat up resources).

Not to mention, the whole concept of a turn-based strategy game mixed with fighting game-esque battles doesn't make much sense to me since the two genres mashed together have wildly different pacing and the slow, tactical aspect of setting up a party, sitting through cutscenes, and positioning party members on a grid seems to clash with the button-mashing combo-intensive combat. This isn't to say that genre mashups can't work, since they certainly have in the past, but in this case it looks like they may have taken two genres which are polar opposites of each other and smashed them into a single game without giving much consideration to how the two aspects can play off of each other; strategy fans are likely to be unhappy as turn-based strategy battles already last a while and needing to spend a significant additional amount of time on every single character's attack phase both makes fights drag on and reduces the sense of strategy if a single good combo can overcome a vastly stronger opponent while fighting game fans are unlikely to want to sit through the time it takes to do strategy-related stuff between combos.

I won't dismiss this game outright, but it's a bizarre genre combination and Capcom & Friends refusing to show much in the way of uncut footage and outright removing nearly all traces of the strategy part of the game from the trailers doesn't give me much faith in their faith in their product.

As someone who has played Namco X Capcom I warn you all not to get your hopes up.

Sakura from Sakura Wars and the main character from Valkyria Chronicles 3. You know characters that are instantly recognizable to the American audience.

I'd say the guy is from Valkyria Chronicles, don't know about the girl...

Seeing .Hack and Xenosaga people is kinda cool. The Sega choices are super weird though.

And I guess this is the closest thing to getting non-"original character only" SRW, which will always be disappointing.

Is this from the same people who did OG Saga Endless Frontier (or whatever)? That one also had pretty fighting animations. It was also a really shitty RPG.

Seems less about Mega Man, and more about ALL THESE COOL CHARACTERS FROM OTHER VIDEO GAMES in this game. Still gonna buy it though because of latter point.

And in light of FF XIII-II's wildly out of place DLC costumes, why isn't there a Mega Man stealing the special moves of different characters from different games? I mean in this post Scribblenauts world, surely most character attacks could boil down to a dozen archetypes. Obviously Ryu fireball (which could also stand in for a Mass Effect Warp), but plenty of others.

@edgezero: Namco X Capcom doesn't exist yet, Street Fighter X Tekken was Capcom's game out of that deal, Namco has yet to release their take on the two Universes colliding.

Namco X Capcom came out in 2005 for the PS2 (no US release).

No English voice acting, at all, lol. Though, it makes sense. There are some games represented here that were never released outside of Japan, let alone released in North America.
