Here's a Full 4v1 Match in Evolve

Whoever said "man" was the most dangerous game never had to deal with a 10-foot monster that could deliver Superman punches.

I've always been interested in this game and still am. I'm a big co-op fan, so when a game requires it, I'm game to at least try it.

Okay...I like competitive gaming commentary but there is a time and place and certain types of games that fit that. Evolved is not one of them.

Other than that, I am pumped to try out this game.

Not enough blood.

Looking like a fun time and, to be honest, I'd like an optional unlock when you "beat" the game a few times with that dude just yelling every time something happens. It's grating, sure, but sometimes I just want some spectacle you know?

Well, it certainly looks interesting. Hopefully both sides are fun to play.

Still reminds me of Crysis 3 Hunter mode, just more brute force.

Well said jouhn. I thought the guy did a reasonably entertaining job, explaining a game I knew little about and emphasising the competitive nature of it. It may not be an eSports game at heart, but it is PvP and the commentary made the features clear.

Moreover, pointing out how ill-thought out internet criticism of an individual can be hurtful was merited. The guy was paid to do a job, and in my eyes he succeeded.

Game looks cool. I'd like to see more of the evolution of the monster though. Is there just the one monster type too? I'd love to have a suite of various predators with unique abilities to choose from.

@jouhn said:

@sleazefrenzy: You have to realize that he is shoutcasting on a game he barely knows. He actually does quite well asking the dev about stuff happening in the game.

I am pretty sure the devs hired him to shoutcast the game for $$$. I agree that this game looks like it shouldn't be an esport, but Ayesee does alright in this remark, especially because he hasn't learned alot about what each character does and the specifics of the game

@sleazefrenzy said:

Game looks like fun, but that guy...I want to punch him. If he's considered a good esports commentator then esports commentary has desperately low standards.

He is definitely not the best. Good radio voice, but not the best. If you keep up on him, you will know that immature, outspoken comments like yours nearly makes him miserable. He isn't the only one. Lots of people make greatly exaggerated comments regarding people like Ayesee; someone who tries their best but can't be the Micheal Jordan of their career. And what do they get from it? Praise, cheer, and then hate. What do they think more about? The hate. When you have death threats and shit arriving in your mail (literally), then what can you do to simply ignore it, when you, yourself, are also searching for your own flaws?

You might try to understand what people like Ayesee are going through. I might exaggerate it a bit, but if there is one thing that is clear, it is that people like you ruin lives and hinder people's motivations.

I really want this to be good. but i have a big problem with the moment when the monster got a sneak attack in when the guy was alone...and it didn't kill the player. It feels really unbalanced because right after that the whole time just gangplanked the monster so hard. there should be stealth one-hit KO moves or something...though i guess the problem would be anytime a player turns around it might trigger...ah..i hope there's a workaround for it.

@biggie: I completely agree, I watched this video because I was super excited after hearing about this on the Bombcast and wanted to know more. Sitting through the e-sports style commentary as apposed to just watching and hearing about the game was kind of annoying.

Still super excited about the game though, also Bombcast gets that red underline thing that says it spelt incorrectly and this makes me giggle.

On their youtube their is a 52 minute session of gameplay. If you skip this commentary part i don't think there is anymore. Just pure gameplay.

I'm REAAAAALLY worried about this one. It looks cool and interesting and all that good stuff, but will this get old after like ten matches? The concept just seems so incredibly limited... God I hope I'm wrong.

There is a longer version of it on youtube that shows the perspective from all 5 players, and no commentary. Much better version to watch in my opinion.

The Left 4 Dead games are probably some of my favorite shooters of all time. This game looks cool but I can't see it being nearly as groundbreaking as the multiplayer in those games. Still looking forward to playing it. Whatever happened to that dinosaur Left 4 Dead game that had a Quick Look EX (which should be categorized as Unfinished now)?

I actually really enjoyed the commentary, because it's a good way to show off a competitive game. It helped to get across a lot of the key points and talk about possible strategies. I don't necessarily see this game actually being especially popular as an "eSport", but it looks like a fun competitive multiplayer experience with friends.

Would you guys rather have just had the footage with no explanation of what was going on? Or one of the devs just saying, "... and here the Goliath is attacking cyber-meerkats to build up his armour" in a slightly bored-sounding presentation voice? Ayesee sounded excited but still conveyed the important stuff. And I personally thought the ending was great. Not telling us who won and all.

This is basically Giant: Citizen Kabutos multiplayer made into its own game with more classes? That game was amazing in multiplayer, so much fun chasing that giant, or being the giant, either way.

That's what I was thinking. But it's missing that 3rd team and basebuilding Giants had.

I wouldn't mind the commentary if they intended it as an introduction to the game - but that's clearly not the tone of it.

I feel like there are going to have be incentives to play as the monster - not as much fun to be the 1 v 4 in my opinion.

@biggie: from what i can remember this game is coming from the original developers of left for dead 1 so they seem to know how to make a fun co op game. as far as the esport side i can't say. 2K is publishing them now after THQ went out but i want to have faith that they can make something fun :) they did the first time after all. Turtle Rock Studios is the name i think. oh and so nobody thinks i'm smart this is all on the wiki and i did read the article in game informer lmao. plus i'm drunk woooooooooo love everyone!

Looks like fun. Commentary of what is going on is always nice. Otherwise I would be lost. But it didn't have to be all Shoutcaster style, really made me not want to keep watching. Just having a dev say whats going on is nice.

COMING FROWN DOWNTOWN

That was the cringy part in this. Game itself looks really cool, but man that commentary was not needed other than just the developer talking about the classes rather than some ESPORTS sounding shouty dude. Sorry, Ayesee fans.

Super surprised to recognize Ayesee. That said, what the fuck is Ayesee doing commentating for this game? LOL.

Edit: Also, people need to quit hating on Ayesee. That dude's boss. He obviously doesn't know anything about this game, but they paid him to do it. I'd take the money if I were him.

So weird hearing Ayesee cast this. The developer dude is obviously not into it either, Ayesee had nothing to work with man. Still looks like a pretty cool game. I think they should have just let it play without commentary.

On one hand, jungling and running away looks like an effective way to grind as a monster, on the other hand, insane-ass mobility as four hunters. To communicate and spread out will be the thing, and this could have more life than some other games.

As long as the esportsiness of this was just a misstep and something they won't go any further with.

Commentary is totally weird. This seems more like a tense, semi-horror multiplayer experience than a competitive esports type game. I don't like him referring to the monster as "tanky". Tanks soak up damage so the rest of the party doesn't have to. The monster doesn't have a party...!

@flacracker: ... No, why would I be? Does anyone actually enjoy the Charger or Jockey?

Dark Carnival is also an absolute shitstorm of a map, the first time playing it you have no idea where you're supposed to go. L4D1's maps were very good at funneling players through the correct paths, the maps in 2 are just nonsense full of dead ends.

@uberjannie: On the other hand, the original L4D maps are the only ones worth playing, and most of L4D2's additions are horrible.

Turtle Rock knows how to balance things, Valve doesn't. They also have an eye for design and map flow that Valve doesn't.

Are you joking?

I thought the commentary was fun. Also I didn't get from this that they were trying to create a new esport. It's 4 against 1... completely unbalanced teams... saying it's an esport because of the commentary is kinda ignoring everything else.

Brad was right, it's totally weird that they're are treating this as an esport before any sort of following has been formed behind the game.

Like, I have no idea what they are talking about
