One clue I've spotted is toward the end, but don't know how it relates. When the female voice reads the title "V has come to." it sounds slightly German, as in "Wie hast komm du?", which I think means "Why have you come?". My German is pretty rubbish, though.

Woke up at 4:30am to watch this, no regrets.

It's not an issue of should or shouldn't really. It seem's that it's implied that they want them to sound the same since they have listed snake's japanes VA for the game. So it's more of a Hayter problem.

I'd like to think that they're just trolling because pretty much everything up to this point about this game has been misleading but that could be just wishful thinking.

Story arc then. Chronologically it's all in the same universe (as far as we know). It's MGS3, Portable Ops, Peace Walker, MGS5, Metal Gear 1, MG2, MGS1, MGS2, MGS4. And you can tack MG Rising in at the end if you're feeling hospitable.

I don't think so. "Wie hast komm du?" is not a valid sentence in German. "Why have you come?" would be "Warum bist du gekommen?". As a German I can say that it doesn't sound German at all.

The trailer is completely nuts though. I played MGS4 and enjoyed it but I don't really give a shit about the fiction so if they take it in some weird fun direction I'm totally okay with that.

"The Phantom Pain" and "Ground Zeroes" sound like chapter titles.

...and hopefully, not including David Hayter in the pre-release footage is just Kojima's kind of joke.

It's funny to see how much people are into the whole Metal Gear storyline and lore. Snake might be a cool character to some, but beyond that it's not worth thinking about it, less caring about it. Maybe it's the Japanese childish anime culture, but it probably doesn't resonate to many gamers over sixteen. Kojima should mature along its audience if he wants to remain relevant, unless Konami is satisfied with not having success outside their small island.

Two time lines. I hate to say it, phantom pain is liquid snake. You are playing liquid snake. 9 years fits the timeline from mgs1 to mgs4. Beginning of the game probably ground zeros is some foreshadowing. Sort of like mgs4 we have an homage to the boss's from previous games. The guy in the elevator looked like a mix between The Fury and The Pain. You can hear buzzing like bees from The Pain and the flames and the flaming head kinda thing like the Fury. the guy that looks like snake (big boss) sounds like Master Miller who provided the same voice for Liquid. Now he could have lost his accent from being out for to long IDK. "The bad news is the world wants you dead" is what the bandaged man says to this snake imposture. Look at the hair tones too, Snake never had that light of hair before. Bit of scruff would grow over time if no one was there to shave you. MGS5 is Lquid Snake

It would be cool if this turns into Metal Gear Solid: The Divine Comedy. Snake has his one last mission in Ground Zeroes, dies in the process, and The Phantom Pain is Snake battling out of hell with the spirits of Volgin and other character Snake and Big Boss has killed before trying to drag him down. Also with flying unicorns and space whales and shit.

Hey - I might actually like this one, after the steady decline that was the MGS franchise for me. Loved MGS 1 on PSX. Right game at the right time. Downhill from there.

Looks like this one might hit the sweetspot again.

I find the whole Metal Gear lore totally baffling. It's incredibly difficult to follow. I played MGS 4 all the way through and probably forgot all the story beats by the time the credits started to roll...

It probably should have been obvious quite some time ago, but I think Kojima has gone around the bend.

I'm incredibly excited for this - longtime MGS fan since the first one on the PSX. It's a shame Hayter isn't in it but it's not a dealbreaker.

After watching all the trailers from each of the Metal Gear's...what could Hollywood bring to add to this franchise. They wouldn't be able to match the mind of Hideo's ideas!
