Here's a Look at Skyrim's Upcoming Kinect Voice Commands

Now you have a valid reason to be shouting "FUS-RO-DAH!" at your TV. Seriously, it was super weird when you were doing it before.

This seems like a likely scenario. xD

You really need a Kennect..? Why not just a head set?

Supposedly the Kinect itself does some of the recognition legwork...that and they aren't trying to sell headsets.

Mild cynicism aside, it looks kind of neat once you get used to the pause between your commands and the action. And if Kinect doesn't have as hard of a time as it seems to have normally with voice commands. Especially when you have the sound cranked up.

Nice of them to add in quicksaving and sorting too...too bad it's tied to Kinect.

On a side note, the clips of Skyrim here look like a completely different game to me now after all the mods and improvements on PC.

hmm.

the shout stuff is cool but all those other voice commands would take me out of the experience. "Ally wait" is so robotic.

Too bad Thuumic doesn't actually work.

This seems pretty handy i guess, more for the inventory sorting. I wonder if they will have a "report bug" voice command...

They will but it will be buggy too.

Can I do this with a regular mic in my PC? If no, why?

Or i could just press a few buttons...it takes the same amount of time...

Be reasonable. It takes way longer to actually hard save in Skyrim than to just say Quick Save. It'll get fast like a hard poop slipping out between your buttcheeks with Kinect.

Great to see a bunch of features finally implemented to the 360, and by voice command, to boot. Now I just have to get over the weirdness of actually making voice commands. Also, this:

Couldn't they just work this into the headsets?

A headset doesn't cost upwards of $100.

This could be useful but it just adds to the list of reasons I hope to never buy another Bethesda product, ever. Why isn't quicksave just a part of the console versions? Wtf?

Yeah. But I'm sure Microsoft paid a massive amount of money for this, or it has something to do with the exclusivity on DLC deal they have with Bethesda. It's perfectly feasible to issue voice commands to a game using an ordinary mic and have it work. SOCOM did it and EndWar did it. Yes they both had some problems, but on the whole it worked fine for something that didn't cost 100 dollars for a big, goofy, over-glorified paperweight with the only reasonable functionality coming out of the fucking microphone.

It's not even about selling new Kinects anymore, it's about making people that spent 100 bucks on the piece of shit feel that their purchase wasn't a complete waste. The Kinect is something that Microsoft wants to make mo' money off of, so it stands to reason that making a purchase feel validated now means that future adoption rates of the tech will be reasonable and bring Microsoft in mo' money. Despite the fact that most everything it does is a useless toy or gimmick people are typically easy to placate. You could shoot their mother so long as you give them something they want.

Why don't they include integration like this for the headsets that everyone owns.

This is a big kinect fuss over stuff that rainbow 6 did ages ago when the xbox first arrived.

I mean most of the time it was pretty gay but with menus as shoddy as skyrim's, headset integration could be really useful

Quick Save actually seems super useful, and saying what things you want to use instead of navigating that quick bar menu also seems cool. Will probably use some of this stuff.

The fact that they're integrating new, useful features that should have been in the original game makes this all pretty gross. You're telling me you couldn't have the option to hit a button to sort in different convenient ways built in? Or quick save / load?

Overall, I think the voice stuff seems like a fun novelty, but I'd really rather developers make menus and quick select options that are easy to use on a controller, instead of relying on moderately functional voice commands. Skyrim wasn't terrible on this front, but it got bad as the game went on.

As I mentioned to someone in the announcement article, the answer is simple. Microsoft isn't making a major marketing push to try to get people to buy headsets.
