Here's a Look at Skyrim's Upcoming Kinect Voice Commands

Why don't they include integration like this for the headsets that everyone owns.

This is a big kinect fuss over stuff that rainbow 6 did ages ago when the xbox first arrived.

I mean most of the time it was pretty gay but with menus as shoddy as skyrim's, headset integration could be really useful

The fact that they're integrating new, useful features that should have been in the original game makes this all pretty gross. You're telling me you couldn't have the option to hit a button to sort in different convenient ways built in? Or quick save / load?

Overall, I think the voice stuff seems like a fun novelty, but I'd really rather developers make menus and quick select options that are easy to use on a controller, instead of relying on moderately functional voice commands. Skyrim wasn't terrible on this front, but it got bad as the game went on.

The guy sounds like the scientist on The Simpsons.

Quick Save actually seems super useful, and saying what things you want to use instead of navigating that quick bar menu also seems cool. Will probably use some of this stuff.

Couldn't they just work this into the headsets?

This could be useful but it just adds to the list of reasons I hope to never buy another Bethesda product, ever. Why isn't quicksave just a part of the console versions? Wtf?

Great to see a bunch of features finally implemented to the 360, and by voice command, to boot. Now I just have to get over the weirdness of actually making voice commands. Also, this:

Be reasonable. It takes way longer to actually hard save in Skyrim than to just say Quick Save. It'll get fast like a hard poop slipping out between your buttcheeks with Kinect.

the shout stuff is cool but all those other voice commands would take me out of the experience. "Ally wait" is so robotic.

Supposedly the Kinect itself does some of the recognition legwork...that and they aren't trying to sell headsets.

Mild cynicism aside, it looks kind of neat once you get used to the pause between your commands and the action. And if Kinect doesn't have as hard of a time as it seems to have normally with voice commands. Especially when you have the sound cranked up.

Nice of them to add in quicksaving and sorting too...too bad it's tied to Kinect.

On a side note, the clips of Skyrim here look like a completely different game to me now after all the mods and improvements on PC.

This works alright in ME3, hopefully this will become a new trend with Xbox games. I really like the "Quick Saving" in ME3 as well as shouting orders my companions.

How many people actually have the name of all your shouts memorized in the Dragon Language? This is stupid, and NO ONE will use it after the novelty wears off. The item management and quicksave both can be done with buttons and within the same time frame.

I really want to do this. Makes me happy that Saints Row and Rayman pulled me away from Skyrim so I can play it with these new features.

Also, apparently people do want to do it as PC mods were built for voice controlled shouts a while ago.

Nope, in this case the voice recognition they're using is part of the Kinect API. The Kinect software does the actual voice to text data translation, they just need to hook into that.

That said, it's just software and there's no reason MS couldn't make the voice-recognition part of Kinect's API work on PC or even with a plain old mic on the XBox for that matter - but of course MS wants to sell Kinects.

They could of course just use some other pre-existing voice recognition API on PC, but I don't think anyone out there makes a voice-rec API specifically suited for integration into games, and they'd have to pay to license that where MS is probably giving free Kinect SDKs to Bethesda to incentivize them to use the peripheral, because again, they want to sell Kinects.

Check out Skyrim Nexus for mods. It seems that there are voice recognition mods for microphones for PC already made. They don't need to add it, other people already have!!

All of this actually seems useful long as it works properly.

I fully expect there to be a PC mod that does all this. There's already one for the Shouts so it's theoretically possible.

We all know Bethesda got paid oodles of money by Microsoft to add this so I doubt other platforms will get the same love from them.

This actually seems like a useful tool, especially the item stuff.

Yelling at your TV to use Dragon shouts is most convincing reason I have seen to get a Kinect. Still not worth the money to me though.

at this point a Kinect featured DBZ game just feels like a complete missed opportunity.

As a PC player, this seemed superfluous till he started sorting. Hey guys, I've still got more buttons you can assign. Maybe let me do that?

At the same time, LOL at people playing Skyrim without Quicksave.

The only thing that sucks about this is that you still hear the character shouting after you just did the dragonshout yourself.. that seems kind of weird to me. Maybe there will be an option to toggle it?
