Currently playing DMOMM for the first time.

I'm prepared to buy any product developed by the same people sight unseen at full price. I won't even watch this trailer.

Running and jumping off rooftops, stealthy assassinations with daggers, melee sword combat... where have I seen this before?

Yup, because Thief totally didn't exist and didn't do of all that before AC(except probably the parkour aspect which was taken directly from Prince of Persia) .

Arkane + Thief + Singularity (or Wolfenstein, maybe) ? The city also has a slight HL2-vibe to me.

I'll take 20.

This is the kind of game that would look really nice on a next-gen console if the graphics can match that trailer. I am instantly interested in that game's world. Hopefully the gameplay will capture that breathlessness of the cinematic..

I know it's just a CG trailer that is pretty unrepresentative of how the game will likely actually be... but FUCK that was cool!

Seriously the comment section looks like the one from Gametrailers...

This thing has been in the making for quite a while and got announced/hinted at allready months ago.

It has NOTHING to do with "assassins creed" or "just borrowing pieces from other games".

In terms of publisher and creative people backing it it's gonna be something unique and new, made by experienced people. And i have the strong urge to punch people in the face who simply compares this to the new deus ex or assassins creed in an "oh anotherr knock-off..." way.

This thing is an fresh IP with lot's of potential and high goals, it's gonna be huge and awesome. Unless they totaly screw it up heavily, but so far they have all the right people, tools and vision for this to work out.

well I wish I could be as optimistic as you.

I'm not denying it could be good, but they CHOSE to emphasize very known elements of other games in their trailer. For a lot of people, the fact that a lot of aspects quote assasin's creed is a good thing, but I don't feel the same way.

Could it be awesome? Hopefully.

I was expecting awesome things for RAGE and BRINK, and I was sorely disappointed, and I see this could be leading in the same direction. And in that sense, I think a lot of people are justified not being immediately sold.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so chill... you don't have the sole truth.

@Sydlanel: Rage and Brink came from troubled development backgrounds. id hasn't been what it used to be in a long ass time. This sounds really cool and original, and anyone who's read two words about it will know that it's a hell of a lot more than Would you Creed-ly.

And insinuating that they did this intentionally to get people to think this is just a bunch of stolen ideas is ridiculous. It's a fucking video game. If it's good, celebrate it, if it isn't, don't. It's clearly not just a rip off, unlike Kingdoms of Amular which didn't even TRY to disguise it's "inspirations" but rather just lifted them directly.

Gamers need to stop being so fucking cynical. This game looks and sounds awesome. The premise is cool, the world is being developed by people who I have total faith in to create an awesome locale, and just looks plain awesome in everything we've seen.

@Sydlanel: Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so chill... you don't have the sole truth.

It's not about having the "sole truth", it's about doing a little bit of research on the game before judging it so quickly.

Because i always thought the GB audience to be among the more knowledgable communities out in the "gaming interwebs". Just a few small facts about the game. The lead Designers are Harvey Smith (System Shock, Thief, Deus Ex) and Raf Colantonio (Arx Fatalis, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic). Visual and Art design are done by Viktor Antonov the guy behind most of Half Life 2 City 17 Visual style/design.

They actually describe the game as an "Immersive sim", it's more like an FPS sandbox assassination simulation.

If this comes even remotley close to what they make it out to be, then this will shit all over Assassins creed and similar.

RPS has a ton of good stuff about the game, people really should check that out because it looks promissing and sounds awesome.

@Nethlem: I dont particularly care who is behind it, if they are great designers, they will make a great game, but that doesn't mean they dont have influences or that they cant make a lousy game. Am I saying this will suck? NO!

Such an incredibly pedantic assumption to say that i dont know where this game is coming from. The gut feeling a game gives you is as important as the author commentaries that you might read. But so you know, to me Thief was a very interesting game albeit full of problems. System Shock was wonderful but I see nothing of that game here. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic to me was a very average game also full of problems.

The art is interesting, for sure, and i would live to see how well the opressive atmosphere of HL2 sees a parallel in Dishonored, there are many reasons to back up this game, but if you've played games for the last 20 years you know no concept or team is bulletproof when it comes to production.

But thats all unimportant, I'm saying that I expected a different direction from the trailer, and that it gave me a familiar vibe. You may or may not like it but no matter how much I read about the development studio, and their marvelous geniouses, that vibe is not going to go away. If players feel in a certain way about a game it's not your place to tell them wrong.

Also:

They actually describe the game as an "Immersive sim", it's more like an FPS sandbox assassination simulation.

To me is practically a selling catchphrase for Assasins Creed too, it doesn't tell me anything about this game in particular, because as I read it there, it's an IDEA, and great ideas can go anywhere.

Lol you guys get so defensive, first of, I have read more than a few words about it, I like the concept, but if I trusted all I read, I'd think that peter molyneux is actually going to revolutionise the industry (relax peter, you did revolutionise it with populous and dungeon keeper).

I didnt say that it was just a ripoff, I said that it took a lot of ques from it, especially in the trailer, which is neither good nor bad! Mind you that Assasins creed is quite well respected as a huge open ended narrative and hystorical videogame success. Why do you get your panties in a twist if someone says there are elements in common? Insecurity? I'm comparing the initial feeling of an unreleased game to a successful game... where is the problem? Am I speaking in absolutes?

I am not a big fan of sandbox games, but that has nothing to do with me. I also don't trust bethesda as a publisher or developer to release well finished products, since story says they are fine with releasing bug ridden almost unfinished games.

I still look forward to seeing more on how this game develops. but i'm not throwing my arms up for the second (is it third?) coming of jesus.

To me is practically a selling catchphrase for Assasins Creed too, it doesn't tell me anything about this game in particular, because as I read it there, it's an IDEA, and great ideas can go anywhere.

I think it's more pedantic to boil everything i just pointed out to "oh yeah that game, i didn't like that".

When in turn you should look at all these games and see what they did great, where they did come from and at what time they got released. Dark Messiah had "problems" as in that it wasn't a complete game, but it did FPS meele combat in an impressive way that actually worked, SS/Thief/Deus Ex are basicly the very roots and driving forces behind sandbox, multible choice gameplay FPS games.

And as such this smells too much like "right time, right place, right people".

Look i'm not trying to pitch this game as "the best thing since sex" it just feels like people are downplaying and underestimating the talent and experience involved here. Especially because many people seem not to understand what "sandbox" actually means in an gamedesign/oldschool gaming way. AC never had been a sandboxy game, for the first game they pitched it with an "sandbox nature" but it ended up just being an "open world experience".

I put quite some effort in giving you some easy access to more information and media about this game, even including actual ingame screenshots in many of these article. So please don't give me the "oh yeah? but it's just an idea and no real game!"line that's cheapning my effort. Like i said: This thing had been in the making for quite a while, it's not some EA/Activision pushed "annual FPS cashout", it's an original idea with geniue creativity driving it.

That's what most gamers usually demand, so they should at least try recognizing it for what it is, when they are not busy complaining about "Sequalization" or "copy&paste design" of videogames.

This reminds me a lot of the E3 trailer for Prey 2. Like, A LOT.

Cryptic intro giving the protagonist a star symbol in/on his hand, strange city at night, running across rooftops parkour-style, hunting down a marked man, using a special ability to shoot groups of three bad guys, fighting some big crazy thing at the end. This game being announced with this trailer less than a month after Prey 2 was rumored to be canceled by the same publisher makes it all weirder.

I hope this means Bethesda just loves backing projects that involve hunting people and doing parkour at night and that both games are still coming out and going to be super awesome.
