They should get the guy who narrates Rockstar's trailers. Seriously, that dude can make the blandest, most boring crap sound sophisticated and revolutionary. (Not a dig against Rockstar nor FF)

I am hyped for this game. Or I was. Then I heard the new Chocobo theme and found my hype wasn't as strong as I thought.

Still, as someone who liked FF13, I think this game looks better. Awful music choices aside.

So, non-linear world exploration, mini-games, quick-time events, and Pokémon. Got it.

This voiceover guy has got to be the most bland and monotonous voiceover guy I've ever heard. I'm still pretty excited about the game since they seemed to have made some meaningful changes but damn this was not the right way to present them.

This guy could make a 15 car highway pileup sound boring.

While I enjoyed XIII, I feel like I've had enough.

Listen to what he's been tasked with saying. Whoever wrote that shit sure didn't read it aloud at any point. I'm sure the VO guy was more excited about getting through the session without swallowing his tongue.

His entire explanation of the battle system should have ended with, "...but there's the Auto-Chain attack which just picks the best skills to use every single time, so just mash A until you win the game." Square-Enix still doesn't quite understand why FFXIII got such a poor reaction.

Is this guy just reading the design doc?

Yeah, I think calling that game even a minor success is pushing it...

I really dug 13's battles and I am pretty stoked for this game. Feels like they just took the engine and battle system and spent their time making open areas and such.

Anytime the selling point of a video game is "... towns that are filled with non-playable characters..." marketing has sincerely dropped the ball. Then again, Final Fantasy XIII-2 might just be that bad that NPCs are something to gloat about.

I dont know why I am excited about this game, but I am. What's funny about that is that I have never played a single FF game, not even FF 13.

Pretty much all the things absent from XIII that players claimed ruined the game for them.

Even in this trailer you can catch a glimpse of the exciting town NPC quests you can get "retrieve item XYZ"

Such innovative things like, npcs you can talk to, quicktime events, and cinematic gameplay. It saddens me how much time and money still gets wasted on this franchise, especially when they could be making something like a new Front Mission. God what I would give for a new Front Mission. Fucking Square.

It's the raw, uncontrollable excitement in his voice that really sells it.

I'm under the impression that this is what the original FFXIII was supposed to be.  As a person that spent 80~ hours on the original, this looks much more refined.   Hell, it even looks like a legit Final Fantasy title.

They released a new Front Mission last year. But I'm assuming you want a turn-based strategy game, not a shitty Armored Core.

I... didn't hear anything exciting, interesting, or original out of that whole thing. Just a TON of gameplay mechanics that we've had - and been bored of - for a very long time now.

Didn't play the original so I can't give an opinion on it, other than I don't think I'll be getting the original.

And if I'm not mistaken, there weren't many towns in the original at all. So I guess towns with tons of NPCs/fetch quest givers is a bit of an improvement.

At least the guy talking sounded like he was really into it.

It sure looks like you're stuck with those two totally repulsive characters for the whole game.

It sounds like they listened and put back all the things that make a FF game in, but its a little strange that they're playing them up like its innovative stuff. Now hopefully the story is good, I can't wait to see why Snow is barely involved in any of these videos, weren't they like married or something? Can't remember.

@GunnBjorn: Well it is by far the best selling role-playing game, Eastern or Western, of the generation so far, like it or not.

They really seem to have listened to their audience.

I'm surprised people are surprised that the announcer said FFXIII was a smash hit. Look up the numbers; it was.

I, for one, can't wait for this game to come out. Seems like they're making this game into a proper JRPG, and adding some refinements to the great combat system in the first game. If you've fought any of those megabosses in the first game, you would realize just how nice some quick time events would be to break up some of the longer fights.
