The interface is a huge improvement! I'm still worried about the game play. I've heard that after SimCity, they basically scrapped the game and rebuilt it in a year.

I'd love to see that same level of customization on individual pieces of furniture, but that'd never happen cuz EA wouldn't be able to charge $1.25 for an in game couch.

Character customization is really the only thing I care about in these games. I bet they'll ship with little hair/cloths options then charge absurd amounts for additional ones though. And installing user made stuff will probably be a pain in the ass and bloat the game to the point where it barely runs.

Damn it. I'll probably buy it anyway.

Man, I hope when they release the inevitable 20 expansions (I don't even think this is hyperbolic) it doesn't grind to halt like ended up with Sims 3. Of course this wouldn't be a problem if they didn't strip out all the features the expansions add to ensure they can re-release them all for the next gen.

Don't mind admitting I have a soft spot for The Sims.

Have to admit I'm liking the create a sim and more cartoony style.

I'm really looking forward to this game, hopefully they bring some interesting new tweaks to the gameplay (like 3 did with the whole Wish system). This create stuff is great to see though, because it definitely seems a lot easier to shape out a character the way you have them envisioned in your head than in past iterations (where you were trying to work out whether you wanted to adjust "jaw depth" or "chin angle").

Anyway, I like The Sims a whole bunch. I'm looking forward to a new one (especially as a guy who doesn't buy the expansion stuff, so it's been a fair while without much new content). Thankfully the customisation stuff in Sims 3 was enough to keep it fresh each time I revisited it, but I'm eager to see what this game brings.

I haven't played The Sims since the original (and The Sims Online). I take it there's no user-created content anymore? I remember going to some website and downloading items and furniture for free that people created. That was a big draw of the original game for me. They had expansions, but it was still open to do whatever you wanted.

I have The Sims 3 from some bundle. I should probably check it out before I say that I'm interested in The Sims 4. This looks like fun.

Now we just need a sims game that doesn't make me feel weird for playing it. 'Shouldn't I just go outside and live? Nahhhhhhh"

There was a free user created content thing on the sims 3 website if I recall correctly. I remember getting houses other people built from it.

I wish I could be optimistic for this, but I just know they're going to charge hundreds of dollars for day one DLC again while leaving only a paltry amount of items in the standard release. Hopefully the game will run better at the very least.

I loved The Sims 3, but I sure did feel burned buying it on release for a number of reasons.

I've always found things to enjoy about The Sims. I'm just not looking forward to seeing how aggressive their plan is for DLC and expansions.

I'd pay a hundred bucks as long as the game ran reasonably well. Sims 3 chugs and had some serious bugs last time I checked, especially once the expansions were stacked on.

@vigil80: I still play the sims 3 once in a while with 3 expansions installed and It does slow down when you have all that installed. The worst bugs I've had are the people getting stuck at the elevator and nobody going home and the bartender not serving drinks and just resetting.

The sims is a series that is very fun but I always get burned out halfway because I want to get to the "end game", a big family, a good career, lots of money, huge mansion.

As long as this doesn't chug like the Sims 3 did, i'll be happy. The constant pause before a sim takes any action removes any chance for natural interaction and imo, breaks the simulation considerably. Not to mention, of course, the constant frame hitches and crashes. I'm not exactly running on a potato here.

I've always wanted to get into the Sims, but the amount of DLC/expansions (also me having an average/below average PC) for previous Sims has turned me off.

The concept of Sims is just totally fascinating, and I could imagine getting really invested in playing around with the characters, and thinking about social interaction, appearance, life-long development etc.

More curious about the "new build tools". Most of my time in Sims games is spent trying to design realistic houses. Particularly ones with a basement (I think they later added a basement tool?) and tiered roofs and such. Just wish they'd let you design the whole neighborhood itself though with custom plot placement etc

Here's a link to my album of two houses I did in Sims 3 when it first came out.

SeikenFreak's Custom Sims 3 Houses

I'd also like to know if this will come out for PS4. PS4 does allow mouse/keyboard use and my problem with Sims on the PC is that over time the game just gets uninstalled or HDD wipe and I lose all the data.

I was originally so bitter about the cartoony art-style (feeling some sort of unearned entitlement from playing since the original sims and buying most every expansion), but I think I can appreciate it just by thinking of it in this way:

If they have a certain art direction they're going for, and do it well, I really can't be mad.

Still not crazy about the interface looking/controlling as if it was pulled straight out of touchscreen apps, though. :( I'll find a way to justify that to myself some day.

I love the Sims. I have every expansion for the Sims 3. Yes, it has performance issues. It costs a lot to get into. Yet, there's no other game like it. I'll gladly pay for the hundreds of hours of enjoyment I get from it. I guess it's my MMO.

Anyway. Yeah, I'm totally want this game.

Narrator sounds like he's reading from a script, poorly.

Don't know why it's essential to have a dev narrate these things sometimes. It's scripted, we know it's scripted, they know we know it's scripted, get someone who can do it right.

Man, there was a time where I was outright addicted to The Sims. Sunk a ludicrous amount of hours into the first two games, but The Sims 3 just didn't quite capture the magic for me again. Well, part of that was down to once again losing all of the features from The Sims 2's expansions packs... they even took out pets again for the base game.

Still, The Sims series hold a special place in my heart. Always had great music, too. I've always especially liked the build menu themes from The Sims, which eventually made into The Sims 2 as its 'New Age' radio station I think.

I thought the base Sims 3 game was good. Sure they released a bunch of expansions, but I saw all of those as optional crap that I didn't care about. I did pick up a couple of the expansions because Origin had them on sale dirt cheap, but didn't really see the need for them.

I want to see the AI for the characters this time. I still felt like I was micromanaging too much in 3. I should be able to trust my Sim to go get up and go to work without me having to direct every single step of the process. But I will buy Sims 4. Even with the annoyances, it is a good game.

I want to be excited about Sims 4... But we all know that the stock game won't have very many items and they'll expect you to buy endless expansion packs that, $200 dollars later become a full game! They'll have a "pets" expansion and a "college" expansion as expected. Too bad a game company like EA hasn't come up with... I don't know, "digital clay" or something that you could use to make your own items.... Wait a minute! Who am I kidding! Last minute they'll annouce that you can only build one room at a time and if your sim wants a sandwich he'll have to link up with the builder of the kitchen online in order to get the "bread" and "meat" resources to do so!

Over the past five years my wife has sunken hundreds if not thousands of hours into the Sims 3. To her it's basically what WoW or SWG was to me. And if you look at it that way the $500 you might spend over the course of it's lifetime are only a $8/month subscription :-)
