Man, there was a time where I was outright addicted to The Sims. Sunk a ludicrous amount of hours into the first two games, but The Sims 3 just didn't quite capture the magic for me again. Well, part of that was down to once again losing all of the features from The Sims 2's expansions packs... they even took out pets again for the base game.

Still, The Sims series hold a special place in my heart. Always had great music, too. I've always especially liked the build menu themes from The Sims, which eventually made into The Sims 2 as its 'New Age' radio station I think.

Yep exactly the way I felt. Nice to someone else also found Sims2 as special as I did

Well it is good they learned something from Spore. The next frontier on this stuff seems to be giving a lot more control over the hair.

While the Sims 2 was obviously better, nothing will ever replace the first Sims for me. I remember everything from that game. Even the cheat codes I used later on. When I first got the Vacation expansion I was blown away I could leave town.

Man... that game was so great.

Part of me would really like to get into the Sims again. It seems like a good podcast game, like Minecraft, Euro Truck Simulator, or Crusader Kings. Sims 3 just didn't have that magic, though. It was also buggy and poorly optimized as heck. So I just don't know what to think about yet another version. I guess I'll just have to wait to see if I can get the first 8 expansions on some Steam sale and try it myself then.

The Sims would actually benefit of the kind of DRM that they used for Sim City I think. I always enjoyed a bit of The Sims, but it got tedious to make all these different sim-familys just to unlock stuff, so I would prefer it if it was online like Sim City.

The last time they took The Sims online it was a colossal mess.

Jeff Green worked on the Sim team while he was at EA and he said people would act like The Sims Online never existed or was this thing that was uncomfortable to bring up. That combined with how Sim City went over makes it very unlikely that we'll see a(nother) online version of The Sims any time soon.

If your problem is just "laziness" you can easily import/download families that other people have made. The Sims 3 made it even easier to do than the first two games did by simply clicking a button. What you're asking for or the reason you're asking for it doesn't require the game to be online. It requires an internet connection for sure, but not an always online set up.

As long as this doesn't chug like the Sims 3 did, i'll be happy. The constant pause before a sim takes any action removes any chance for natural interaction and imo, breaks the simulation considerably. Not to mention, of course, the constant frame hitches and crashes. I'm not exactly running on a potato here.

holy shit this is the only thing i care about. I jacked up my sims 3 with every expac they had and holy christ getting through a single loading screen took years

Did he just describe someones walk as 'swag'?

Is that even a thing we're doing now?

what you mean the actual real use of the word swagger? are we using words correctly in the year 2014? yes, we are.
it's about goddamn time someone did.

Yeah! Fuck games and genres that don't appeal to ME personally! If I don't like it, it shouldn't exist!

Yeah, but I need my Sims 4 to play on a Cyberdyne System, to get that realistic interaction done, and truly integrate with the net. My Sims should spring to life, and be mobile like a tron army on the move, not a static hood. There should be a spore, a spark of life to them, a sim planet of activity. Maybe I'm just a dreamer, a ghost in the machine.

So how much of the game is going to be relegated to the numerous expansions, stuff packs, and microtransactions that'll be shoved in your face at every turn?

Yeah, The Sims have a dedicated studio while SimCity was created by Maxis but, at this point, The Sims 4 team is completely different than even the Sims 3 team.

The worse thing about new The Sims games is that the initial base game always ships with the bare minimum and you'll have to spend $40 dollars for things like having them go to College or to have a dog or for snow. With that said, I'm still going to end up buying it because I'm a fucking idiot.

Yeah, that's my concern, too. One the one hand, pretty stoked to see a entry in The Sims. On the other hand, every numbered entry feels like a ton of stuff was stripped out, so you get to play the "buy a bunch of expansion packs again" game to get back on par with the previous version.

That said, I too am not confident I've finally wised up.

Yeah I guess it's about what makes you more nostalgic. I never played the Sims 1, only saw it at my friends'. The Sims 2 on the other hand was one of the first proper games I played after spending most of the years before that playing older games such as Roadrash, Mario, some dos games etc. (since I had a weak PC and no new consoles)

Sims 2 after that was like magic to me. I remember being impressed by the detailed texture of a barstool when I zoomed all the way in :D
