I have to say I don't understand at all how this is played based on this video.

This totally looks like Frequency/Amplitude to me. Could be interesting.

No, Amplitude and frequency are barely like this. This is like that really mediocre ipod game they developed called Phase expanded out into a full fledged game. In theory you can say it's like Amp or freq in that you hit buttons on a highway to music, but you could use that logic to say driving in a car down a highway hitting a xbox controllers buttons to music is like amp or freq.

Yesterday I was pessimistic about this game, but today I fear it won't turn out well at all. I am hoping -nay - praying it isn't absolute bollocks but two button lane highway looks horrendously unfun and "casualized". Also the lack of any real effect on the music and not setting up and clearing tracks to customize a song is missing. Also absent is a remix mode. These are KEY concepts that made Frequency and Amplitude what they are. They wheren't just "mash buttons" games, they had interesting gameplay innovations and ideas. Something that this title is lacking and frankly, Harmonix has been lacking since the release of Rock Band 1.

It just seems like someone at Harmonix saw a picture of Amplitude and figured they could mimic it and this is that. It lacks any of the soul and real gameplay concepts that those first games initially displayed with a even worse and cluttered UI.

Sigh, guess i'll be waiting another 10 years for a real Fr3quency to come out.

Rock Band Unplugged with an amplitude look. Funny that only a few years ago I barely knew the beatles, and now I recognize all these songs.

Doesn't this miss the point of Rock Band entirely? Racing through songs playing what is essentially Audiosurf mixed with amplitude just... Isn't Rock Band! You buy Rock Band to play songs on a plastic instrument or sing, not to play some color coded mario kart racer.

Eh, wish they brought back the proper Frequency/Amplitude formula. This just seems so watered down. It also kind of sucks that they decided to make it just a Rock Band thing since the abstract nature of the gameplay lends itself to any kind of music.

This is easily my most anticipated game of 2012! Now we just need Harmonix to figure out how to interpret Rock Band song data so it can be played in Umjammer Lammy format.

@Oddface: By making it a Rock Band thing, they get ~3500 songs available on day one, and can continue to support it going forward without having to license and chart music specifically for this game.
