Alex I think all you'd've needed was a Change.org petition.

@Doctorchimp: Probably because of the emotive language I used. Not bothered about the war I have no particular attachment to that. I do find historical revisionism irritating however, mostly because of the lack of historical awareness of most people. In a democratic society the kinds of revisions to history that happen in media like Hollywood films [in order to either appeal to a particular audience or to propagate some political or Religious message] can have a serious long term impact on general social perceptions of events and thus affect peoples behaviour in events like democratic referendums or simply engender negative emotions between groups that need not exist.

I find the dumbing down of History enables people to engender hate and propagates division between people who camp themselves in different groups. It also stops future generations from learning from past mistakes and even perceiving when events are beginning to happen until its too late.

Its a long complex subject that would be nice if more people understood rather than wanting to put either party into a simple "bad guy" and "good guy" dynamic. People aren't simple and neither are historical events and its important that we as a culture understand that.

Well that and I was answering a question posed :P

@m0rdr3d: Thanks. Not sure if it counts as Trolling but nice to know that if it does it was "Superb" :)

Why are you worried about historical accuracy? I don't think Assassins Creed is meant to have that or ever even indicated that it would. I didn't hear developers on this title or any previous title say they were going to be depicting history accurate.

I'm sorry but you're looking in the wrong medium if you're looking for historical accuracy. Not that a game can't have that, but there has to be liberties taken if a game is taking place in any part of history in order for it to be interesting or engaging.

The problem isn't whether the video game medium or any other form of medium doesn't accurately depict a certain time in history (unless there is an implication by the creators that it is completely accurate), it's people who are looking at these mediums as any kind of real reference. If people are going to look at video games and/or movies to get any real information on history, then the issue is with them. Just because people are lazy and refuse to pick up a book to get real info from isn't the fault of the developers of the game.

I can't wait to play Assassin's Creed III: III since Ubisoft can't take a fucking clue and doesn't know how to end a series then move on to something else. Although they seem pretty capable of holding Beyond Good and Evil 2 at ransom for years, so they're doing something right.

The ability to potentially snag targets and hang them from trees seem super appealing, almost Arkham Asylum inspired.
