The ability to potentially snag targets and hang them from trees seem super appealing, almost Arkham Asylum inspired.

I can't wait to play Assassin's Creed III: III since Ubisoft can't take a fucking clue and doesn't know how to end a series then move on to something else. Although they seem pretty capable of holding Beyond Good and Evil 2 at ransom for years, so they're doing something right.

@Doctorchimp: Probably because of the emotive language I used. Not bothered about the war I have no particular attachment to that. I do find historical revisionism irritating however, mostly because of the lack of historical awareness of most people. In a democratic society the kinds of revisions to history that happen in media like Hollywood films [in order to either appeal to a particular audience or to propagate some political or Religious message] can have a serious long term impact on general social perceptions of events and thus affect peoples behaviour in events like democratic referendums or simply engender negative emotions between groups that need not exist.

I find the dumbing down of History enables people to engender hate and propagates division between people who camp themselves in different groups. It also stops future generations from learning from past mistakes and even perceiving when events are beginning to happen until its too late.

Its a long complex subject that would be nice if more people understood rather than wanting to put either party into a simple "bad guy" and "good guy" dynamic. People aren't simple and neither are historical events and its important that we as a culture understand that.

Well that and I was answering a question posed :P

@m0rdr3d: Thanks. Not sure if it counts as Trolling but nice to know that if it does it was "Superb" :)

Why are you worried about historical accuracy? I don't think Assassins Creed is meant to have that or ever even indicated that it would. I didn't hear developers on this title or any previous title say they were going to be depicting history accurate.

I'm sorry but you're looking in the wrong medium if you're looking for historical accuracy. Not that a game can't have that, but there has to be liberties taken if a game is taking place in any part of history in order for it to be interesting or engaging.

The problem isn't whether the video game medium or any other form of medium doesn't accurately depict a certain time in history (unless there is an implication by the creators that it is completely accurate), it's people who are looking at these mediums as any kind of real reference. If people are going to look at video games and/or movies to get any real information on history, then the issue is with them. Just because people are lazy and refuse to pick up a book to get real info from isn't the fault of the developers of the game.

You have to admit, Assassin's Creed with trees and stuff sounds alot better than another Ezio's Italian Tour Creed 4.

Sure, but still... meh. It's probably just me though.

@Manatassi: I get you =)

I can't remember who originally wrote it because it's been quoted so many times but:

"History is written by the victors."

Though if they at all portray the War of 1812 it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Ubisoft is mostly based in Canada and they outsource all around the world. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

The one word quotes at the end are really fucking retarded.

The animation of the "gameplay" looks kind of fishy, either that or its freaking amazing.

@MarkWahlberg:

Well that was a witty and well thought out rebuff indeed *sigh* It would be awfully hard to bring China or North Korea into that particular conversation who have similar tendencies toward heavily modifying historical events so yeh. The game set in America and my response to a question about the trailer was funnily enough American centric.

Do i think there is some kind of nationwide conspiracy in America to cover up historical facts? no that would be idiotic. There is however a strong tendency in American Media to simplify events into idealised right and wrong sides for the obvious reason that Patriotism makes people feel good and clear cut morality is simple and easy to consume. If commenting on that fact is "trolling" then it would appear the talking about any subject that you might disagree with or dislike is "trolling". Feel free to correct me if you think I'm wrong. I simply find the subject compelling as with many other subjects and don't like to place subjects in the "can't talk about that" category just because some people find them challenging.

@Grixxel:

I really wish the reading comprehension on this site was a little better. I was commenting on the tone of the Trailer and the implications that that may have toward the tone of the game. It was pretty apparent. I at no point said I would not be buying the game, wether it has the Hollywood style view of events or not. The game itself is looking spectacular. However the fact that to date the Assassins creed series has striven to create a historically accurate environment in order to weave its own story into the mix is in itself the issue.

Can Ubisoft touch historical events that have been idealised so heavily through popular culture and the entertainment media and continue to strive for historical accuracy? The tone of the editing within the trailer however would indicate they are going to avoid controversy as much as they can, which for me is less interesting tonally, I prefer a world where the idea of "good vs Evil" is more complex. Hopefully the game does continue the attempts at historical accuracy and the trailer was more indicative of appealing to a wider American-centric audience rather than reflective of the overall tone of the game.

I will cop to using language that was affected by my irritation as I stated in my last post. However apparently expressing myself, I thought clearly, has lead to me being a "troll" so take what you want from that. I have an interest in discourse not childish accusations if you disagree then I have no problem with that. If you are going to make a point however then read the post I made understanding the context of the comment and make criticisms accordingly. If you can't be bothered to do so then *shrug* thats not really my problem.

Were we watching the same trailer? Nothing in that looked clunky, AC always had super fluid animation.

This looks absolutely gorgeous. If it's coming day-and-date for the PC it'll look even better on a decent machine. Ubisoft weren't lying when they said this version of the Anvil engine was designed to look "next gen".

Instead of puzzles, the secrets in this game will require 5 Facebook referrals to unlock.

Also, that monarchy-loving fuck John Hamilton had better be a Templar. Even better, rewrite history and let me slit the d-bag's throat. I think I need to calm down.

Yes, because that's what the whole series has been about. Historical accuracy. I would further pick apart and troll the shit out of your post if I wasn't convinced you would be picking this game on release, for one, and that you're just trollin'.

@Extreme_Popcorn: Makes more sense to advertise to the American Market with this trailer. On the whole other markets couldn't care less which side he kills but Americans still have a fairly heavily revised view of that wars actual reasons events etc. Portraying the "Brave freedom fighters" that the Americans see as simply one side in a complex war driven by complex political events spanning worldwide wouldn't really appeal to the "Fuck yeah America" culture that still purveys so strongly in that Market. Its going to be more interesting to see wether the game strives to be faithful to historical accuracy, or panders after the simplified, revised and politicised history that has been popularised in American culture to this day.

Unfortunately its a lot less controversial in the only market that really cares about it to simply paint a basic black and white propaganda influenced picture of the past and sell that. So Far this trailer would indicate that Ubisoft has wussed out on the chance to take an interesting look at the real conflict and set the story of assassins within that setting and instead take the far less interesting path of pandering to common perceptions in the hopes of better sales or just out of laziness.

A shame but the game still looks awesome if a bit boring in its lack of story depth. Could change however never know.

Why do I get the sense that you're holding a grudge....about the revolutionary war...

Methinks his black and white worldview clouds his judgement in regard to Americans.

@CitizenKanesaid:

The real question needs to be answered.

Which allegiance is the bear sworn to?

Hessian mercenary bear. He left his homeland behind to seek his fortune in service to the British Crown, only to discover that the cost of war is the ultimate price: his soul. Disillusioned, he abandons his duties and flees into the wild. Hessian Bear now serves no one but himself, fighting for survival and maybe, just maybe, a chance to return home.

@CitizenKane The bear stands alone, a specter in the white expanse. He his Grizzly, the grizzled great brown bear. His past is a shadow, his true ambitions an enigma. Does he fight for the reds? The Assassins or Templars? Or maybe his allegiance goes far back to those who came before. Find out in Assassin's Creed III. I should finish ACR before this comes around and I don't want to play it. Looks different enough from all the old games but... still.
