I remember seeing this on Kickstarter. I meant to back it, but it slipped my mind.

Looks pretty rad.

Lots of Evangelion inspired monster design. Well, more like straight up borrowing, but I'm not complaining. 1:14 (looks like Sachiel) and 1:30 (looks like a berserk Eva).

Reminds me a bit of Risk of Rain meets Bastion. Love the soundtrack too so far.

Glad I backed this one; every video looks better and better. Hope to see a new trailer for Darkwood soon too come to think of it.

It has a pretty great team behind it -- the combat design is by the guy that made Samurai Gunn so we can be pretty sure it'll be razor sharp -- and early reports are very positive about the gameplay in general. I'm not sure what else you really need to be interested in a game. Great aesthetics + exciting gameplay means it's a game I wanna play even if it's not anything revolutionary design-wise. One of the main draws to me is the setting, which takes some cues from Nausicaa and other post-apocalyptic hellscapes -- tell me the shot at the end doesn't remind you of God Warriors. It's also another kickstarter mega success story (645K on a 27K ask) and those are always pretty heartwarming when they turn out good.

Every time I get tired of this art style a game like this comes out and makes me appreciate it again.

It does look very pretty... but I sort of wish it was vector art instead of pixel... and that it had MOAR parallaxing effects!!

I agree with this guy. Let's wait to see how the gameplay is structured and whether or not it has a story before we start getting excited, imo.

I'm so glad that I backed this.

Looks cool, but some of the designs and aesthetics seem lifted straight out of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Which, I mean, you could do worse when it comes to choosing a property to influence your game, but I hope Hyper Light Drifter is able to create an identity of its own.

I backed this game purely for the soundtrack. I could care less whether the game was good or not.

This looks and sounds gorgeous.

I've already backed a game like this, Radio the Universe, certainly no lack of choice when it comes to playing games these days.

Yup. Serves to remind me that there is no art style I'm truly tired of - just tired of styles being used to try and hide bad art.

Getting tired of the pixel style artwork that indies are so fond of these past couple of years. This is one of the better looking ones, but still, I would love more of them to take it further and do well drawn artwork.

Some people think pixel art indie games are tired and overdone. But when it's done this beatifully I DONT CARE. I'm a real sucker for this stuff and an advocate of pixel graphics as a timeless graphical style that can still work today just as well as 3d models. I hope this does as well as it looks!

I backed this quite a while back. Something about the confluence of the art, music, and gameplay reminds me of a game I would've dreamt about in my childhood. It's a strange nostalgic feeling seeing someone fulfill your childhood dreams, after all this time.

To each their own. I can't get enough of this stuff. After the era of brown games that seemed like it would never end, the colorful pixel renaissance is a minor miracle in my eyes.

Looks really nice I hope it also plays as well as it looks otherwise all that artistic flair would be wasted

Pixelly nature of this one isn't for me, would have been more appealing with crisper more details visuals.

Aesthetically it reminds me of a more action packed Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, mixed with Bastion. As long as it doesn't get too visually confusing I'll give it a shot.

@kylenalepa: @hollitz: Glad I wasn't the only one that noticed the very obvious Eva stuff. I'll probably end up picking it up since I'm finally getting on the Vita train tomorrow and it does look pretty neat.

It doesn't need to be all brown and still look great. Bastion and Transistor look great from Supergiant games. One might not like the anthropomorphized animals in Dust: An Elysian Tail, but it is beautiful artwork. The Hohokum Quick Look EX posted today has great artwork. I do enjoy some games that have pixel style art, but it's mainly for the gameplay and not for their looks. Pixel style artwork all looks similar to me, while these and other games that put more effort into the art style look different from one another and better than the pixel artwork I'm seeing.

You're assuming that it's cheap or practical for everyone to make hand-drawn artwork. It's very expensive and very time-consuming. Pixel art can be approached practically mathematically, making it much quicker and easy to produce in most cases, while retaining a more professional look. If the hand-drawn/animated art work for your game is anything less than SUPERB then it looks like a terrible flash game or something off of Deviant Art.

Also I find it weird that it only shows PS4 and Vita at the end, considering it's coming to PC and I believe even Wii U. Sony paid for the ad, I assume?

@xbob42: High quality pixel art (like this) is no less difficult to animate than any other style.

Maybe worth mentioning, that June is the estimated date for the beta, while the actual release got pushed back to the end of the year, if we're lucky. Nevertheless, I really like the look of this!
