Impa Isn't Messing Around in Hyrule Warriors

There really isn't. This is Gundam Musou 3 with Zelda characters.

It still looks like Dynasty Warriors to me, man.

The one thing I really don't get about this - why is Impa using a giant sword? I would've figured she'd be more of a hand-to-hand brawler, or similar.

@viciousreiven: Sorry to break it to you but this plays exactly like DW with a Zelda skin. I've played lots of DW and a little of this on the floor at E3 and I guarantee there isn't much of a difference. That's not necessarily a bad thing - the good Dynasty Warriors games (3,4&8 IMO) are not nearly as shallow as you (or the GB team) seem to think they are.

I've only played LTTP (the best one) and Ocarina, though I recently got windwaker HD as a free game for getting mario kart 8, and I'll play that. But I don't think she was in LTTP at all, probably not in every game. I guess based on the wiki she was in the original though.

@hirashin: She was also prominent as an actual separate character in Skyward Sword. Well, she's been in every Zelda game, but the incarnation in the trailer was from Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time. All prior games, she was a little old lady.

@coaxmetal: First off, Impa is a woman. You probably don't recognize her because this design of her seems unique to this game. As far as I know her most notable role was in Ocarina.

I can't get any confirmation from other sites but is Impa only playable in the 2 player mode or is she playable in single player too.

@jimbot: I played a lot of Dynasty Warriors 3 on the PS2 with friends and then recently picked up 8 because my girlfriend wanted to play co-op and we had a blast.

I wanted to pick up Pirates 2, because I'm a huge One Piece fan and it looks super rad, but sadly I don't own a PS3. Zelda is one of my favorite game franchises, so I'm hoping/expecting it to get an equal if not greater treatment. Hooray for something to play on my Wii U other than Mario Kart and Wind Waker!

Also, I totally agree with you, I think if they went on the market with a starting price of $30-40 the games would be viewed with a little more enthusiasm. That being said, their current strategy must be a valid one as they continue to do it.

I think a lot more effort goes into these games than most yearly releases than most of the press is willing to give. There are lots of characters and pretty much all of them have unique weapons with unique attack animations. For a game whose core gameplay is beating up lots of dudes it does it pretty well and the more recent titles are following the historical events a lot more closely. Well, as closely as you can with larger-than-life caricatures of the larger-than-life historical figures they're based off of.

Their only real big problem is pricing it as a 60 dollar game. I bet they'd make more business if it were a 30-40 dollar title. That said, the core games are decent but I really like the Empire side games, since they add a nice layer of kingdom management-lite to the mix that I enjoy. For the spin-off series, Pirate Warriors 2 was a lot of fun and did the One Piece franchise a good service, so I imagine Hyrule Warriors will show the Zelda franchise the same amount of respect.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what they're doing with Samurai Warriors 4.

Do I know how to.. ! Of course I know how to play these - I mean Jeff Quick looked a bunch of them and if there is one person I can go to for in-depth Dynasty Warriors coverage, then by God it's Jeff "The Game Man" Gerstmann!!

I looked it up. Apparently he's zelda's bodyguard and has been in the games before, but I don't remember him.

Do you even know how they play? Because there's more depth in one of these trailers than a whole warriors game.

This will continue my love of DW spinoffs, despite not caring about the core games.

@humanity: Of course there are similarities, but it's not just Dynasty Warriors with model swaps.

@humanity: The gameplay features Zelda-style elements that do a lot to distinguish it from Dynasty Warriors. Subweapons, Z-targeting enemies, giant monster bosses with traditional Zelda-style weaknesses, and various other mechanical differences. This isn't just Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda skin.

God damn it people, do not fall for the Koei Tecmo switcharoo. Changing the characters and setting does not make a good game. Nostalgia will not save you.

No real interest in Dynasty Warriors but I am very interested in Patrick being interested in Dynasty Warriors. Take the plunge, Patrick! If not you, then who?

If you really are interested, Patrick. Then get DW8 Extreme Legends Complete on PS4. As a fan, I love that one.

What makes this one different though? Just because it has Zelda tie-ins because the gameplay looks fairly similar to your typical Dynasty Warriors game.

I love musou games so much. The Gundam games were a lot of fun- and the Orochi series keeps getting better
