I read somewhere that this holding the rifle sideways business is indeed exercised in shooting ranges, for the purpose of switching between long and short distance targets. There really might be more to it than just gangsta style.

It's kinda pointless to try and apply real life concepts to sci-fi weaponry that is being handled by modified super soldiers, though.

What Jojo is saying is that it's just physics. Guns recoil in a certain direction (up) because of forces caused by the action of the weapon and gases ejected, in relation to where you are holding the weapon (under and to the rear). You can be a super soldier but that doesn't change.
 
But I guess if you want to analyze it, you have to assume that these sci-fi future guns have some way to compensate for that.

I always find the combat a bit lacking in Starbreeze games. You are always too overpowered, and the vast majority of the enemies are the same generic guy. This video doesn't look like they improved on that, but I'd like to be proven wrong. They always have interesting gameplay ideas while most FPSs follow the same formula.

I hadn't realised Starbreeze were making this, looking at it now the melee kill at the beginning is definitely reminiscent of Chronicles Of Riddick.

The explosions look a bit weak and there might be just a little too much light bloom but the rest looks like fun. Also being able to fire the gun "gangsta style" is a really fun thing to include even if it serves no purpose (which it does for most guns).

Can anyone tell why I would ever use more than a single weapon in this game? They all work like 'point at man - paint a line between you and him - oh he died' with some guns you don't even have to aim. Seems extremely derivative.

EDIT: Also, the preorder bonus bullshit has to fucking stop. Sometimes I really hate our chosen medium.

Syndicate for the Commodore Amiga was the first game I ever completed so it has a special place in my heart. When I saw they were doing an FPS reboot, my heart sank. Not that I have a problem with FPS'. I just didn't think it would translate. If you ignore the license and view it purely on its own terms, this actually looks very good. If it plays as good as it looks, I'll definitely pick a copy up.

It probably isn't but I hope the name of the sniper rifle is a reference to Ghost in the Shell. What with all the cyber-punk stuff in this game it would make sense.

More games should be made with destructible environments these days. All these rockets and explosions and not a dent in a wall. I know it would break level design so at least give walls layers so that chunks fall off or something.
