It's Dark Souls! On the PC!

This is going to be the first game I buy twice.

Waiting for the extra content to come out for PS3 too!

@AMonkey: it looks good, contains all "new content" and will probably be cheaper.

It will most likely keep the support for controllers as in the consoles versions. After a few patches (that every PC game gets lately) it has chances to be better than the consoles version.

Actually, I'm not sure what version will I buy. I've already decided to get Crysis, Skyrim and Saints Row III for the PC, instead of XBox360, this would be just one more to add to the list.

I was going to buy this for sure, but after recent reports on the amount of effort that they are putting into the porting (locking 30fps, no graphic settings/enhancements, no real PC bells and whistles), I'm losing my interest and will for sure not preorder. I need to hear from other gamers first.

One of two things will happen now that the internet has decided that an imperfect, possibly rushed port is inferior to no port at all -

1. Namco says, "Well, next time we'll do it properly, as there is obviously a great deal of interest."

2. Namco says, "Screw you guys."

Same here, I have never once had a problem with it.... so many stupids on this planet of ours....

I never really finished Dark Souls, but did that white winged horned red-eyed lion ever appear in the Xbox 360/PS3 version? I don't remember having seen it before.

I would totally buy this a 2nd time if it didn't have GFWL built in. GFWL is seriously terrible enough to ruin a good game.

I use a laptop. It could handle it but I like that my PS3 is same on the other side of the room and not on my lap.

I understand why they're using Games For Windows Live, being that it will most likely make it easier to port since FROM probably has a limited budget and team to do it. But that sure as shit doesn't mean I have to like that awful service. Anyone who actually knows a damn thing would rather have it on Steam over GFWL.

I've had nothing but problems with GFWL. CTD's, updates not finishing, saves getting corrupted on multiple games multiple times, etc. But perhaps the most preposterous thing is the region blocking that GFWL employs. In the year 2012 there's region blocking? On the internet? What in the fuck? This is why piracy exists, because pirates can provide a better service than some* of these stupid suits can.

If I had a PC that coudl handle it, or a PC at all for that matter (I have a mac) I would totally get it. I'd get the Xbox version but I love the online on Dark Souls and don't want to pay gold membership just for one game. Kind of wish I had a PS3 in England as well... Hmmm... One day I'll get an awesome gaming PC. Well I can play it enough on the PS3 in Spain, so Witcher 2 it is for xbox! :D

He's not saying it will run at 30fps is he? If it is I'll just continue playing it on PS3. No sale.

It's just a straight up port with literally as little effort put into making it good on PC as they need to do. Read the article on it over at RPS. They can't even be bothered to work in usable KBM controls so they are just expecting you to plug in a dam controller. It's that kind of shoddy port job.

The controller part is fine. Fuck using a keyboard for this game. The framerate cap is a travesty.

@Hef Seems most errors occur when people have multiple log ins for GFWL. Why would you do that? If you log in with one for one game, and another for another game it erases game saves on both. It's silly. So yes, in that sense it is their fault.

While I agree that locked to 30 is really shitty for a PC game, it's still way better than the console versions.

I'd totally buy this if they actually gave a shit about making a proper port -- I mean no real kb/mouse support even...on the PC? Pfff stuff like that makes the gfwl inclusion seem like a nice feature.

Sadly, everyone except GOG do the region blocking thing, including the beloved Steam. There's a frighteningly huge amount of sites on the web doing it - and the number is growing (as regional blocking was harder to do 10 years ago).

If I can experience Dark Souls without having to buy a console, I'm all for it. I see no reason to ask for a better version, just because my PC could handle it nor would I ever want to play a game like this with KB/M.

Sure it would be nice if they'd make a proper port that took advantage of the platform, but shit - if it's lazy port versus no port at all, it's a pretty easy choice for me. As long as they don't fuck it up somehow and make it worse than the console version, then they'll get my money.

Thirty frames? They're locking it at thirty? Is there a source for that info, because that's just strange. Still, 30 is a lot better than you'd get in Blighttown on console.

You people who've not played it are in for a treat. I'm thinking of picking up this PC version even though I've already put in hundreds of hours on my 360 copy.

I believe that Steam's region blocking is due to how many people import PC games from Russia due to their staggeringly low prices. It's not region blocked by country, though, rather by region (1, 2, 3, 4 etc.), and even then, there are a lot of ways around it - getting a Russian account to gift a game to an American account, (and this is also a way to secure uncensored or unrated games in countries like Germany and Australia). GFWL is much, much more strict, to the point where you can barely buy games across the border, let alone across the continent.

I personally believe they made the frame rate in Blighttown shitty just as an extra special fuck you. Like, if the game mechanics didn't say fuck you enough, here's a little baby bonus. Just to drive you closer to the brink of insanity.

With all the side details on this one:

• Direct console port
• FPS lock
• No PC interface changes or optimization
• No real effort on keyboard + mouse controls (PS3/360 controls are solid, but still no effort?)
• GFWL

I can't see anyone going for it unless they just do not own a console and want to check out Dark Souls. About the only way they could run further in the wrong direction is if this was an Origin exclusive for sales on top of GFWL multiplayer.

(I have no problem with Origin personally but the interwebs seem to dislike it quite a bit!)

I love this game, and i guess this means im picking it up again. Cant wait!

I haven't yelled at my PC in a very long time so why not.

BTW, for those on the fence, i never finished the Xbox version, but it still may be one of the most rewarding experiences i can remember.
