Please Quick Look this.

Also reminds me that I really should buy the original remake of the original.

Too bad the JA remake itself ain't all that.

I love squad based tactical games and still couldn't be arsed to finish it.

BOUGHT.

Hopefully this is a little easier to play through than the remake.

Is this new round of Jagged Alliance games the true successor to Silent Storm that I've been waiting years for?

EDIT: Some digging reveals Jagged Alliance: Back in Action (from earlier this year) is, as you guys keep saying, ACTUALLY a remake of JA2. Which I never played. Maybe I should do that. Reviews everywhere say its interface is clunky and functions as a serious obstacle to enjoying the meat of the game, but hey, PC game. Obviously I'm ready to deal with that.

Man, I really have to buy that remake. It looked amazing. Was it part of the Steam Summer Sale ? I don't recall.

The interface isn't clunky at all. The whole "plan n go" system they introduced - which means it plays little like the original - isn't the most 'efficient' means of getting things done; and the brutal nature of the game's difficulty can make things a tad frustrating, but overall it's a decent game if you like this kind of thing. Unfortunately, most people don't. But I guess it sold well enough - due to the name - to warrant a stand-alone expansion thingy.

Combat still needs a redesign from BiA. Running and gunning was the most effective tactic since type of shot (aimed, snap, etc) is tied to stance. Until they fix glaring flaws like that, any depth the game has is buried.

Just bought Jagged Alliance: Back in Action, and I'm hugely into it. Like, much more than I anticipated. So I'm probably buying this day one.

I really enjoyed JA:BIA, if they "plan & execute" system was refined to something like Frozen Synapses' then it could be an even more amazing game in it's own right.

It seems like the new trend in the industry is to make games that look old! I like my games to look as pretty as possible!

Pretty much. Once you understand the mechanics it's a decent balance between turn-based and real time. It's not anything close to JA2 (especially with the 1.13 patch/mod), but it's okay given that there's a depressing lack of this genre lately. Some of my biggest issues with BiA was how reduced the RPG aspect of it was, the TERRIBLE voice acting that made the original seem like Oscar material, and no IMP system to make my own merc. :(

If you're looking to get the original JA2, do yourself a solid and use the 1.13 mod. It adds soooooooooooooooooo much to an already amazing game.

I started Back in Action not long ago. Although it can be just as frustrating as JA2, I am enjoying it quite a lot. I would be very interested in an expansion, assuming the price is right.

I loved BiA, one of the best games to be released for quite a while in my book. It has its flaws, but overall the game is amazing. I'm currently on my second playthrough :) This is preordered already.

The implications of a bunch of white people saving natives from themselves has always made me uneasy, but I'm probably reading too much into it this time.

Specially because they are being saved from other mercenaries this time. Just saying.

@Anund: It doesn't help that they're wearing turbans and wielding scimitars, though.

I need to go back and finish Back in Action

On launch there were some really annoying design decisions (no sector inventory, arming militias was a massive pain) but a lot of those have been fixed now.

The gameplay itself was really solid though.

@Fearbeard: I played it when it was first launched, being a huge fan of the previous games. I didn't have high hopes, but man, there was a lot of really janky business. Has some of that been updated?
