If they keep it from getting convoluted and frustrating like the DS game, this could be cool. Though the only good Yoshi game was the SNES original so I'm not exactly expecting much.

As for the art style...I ended up loving the way Link Between Worlds looked on the 3DS so maybe this looks great on there too. The blown-up web trailer sure isn't doing it any favors though.

Somebody needs to cut out the word "new" from Nintendo's Japanese-to-English dictionary.

a real lol.... :-)

Originally when Nintendo was developing Yoshi's Island they wanted to give it the Donkey Kong treatment by making it have pseudo-3D sprites (The original game's opening looks more like this new YI). But Miyamoto disagreed and wanted to rework the art assets to make the sprites have a hand-drawn look. For this tile, I think Nintendo is experimenting with the DKC sprite style to see how it would of looked for the original.

Edit: Here's the source about the decision.

Woah...with that question, I was expressing my dismay at the style change, but thank you for the serious response. That's pretty interesting.

I would rather play Baby Upa than that Yoshi infantile BS.

I know lots of people take it deadly seriously, but I am enjoying this Klepek-Gerstmann blood feud over the validity of Yoshi's Island as a good game.

its the only thing that makes me feel ALIVE

Had me going there for a while :D

Is it just me, or does the art style look really muddy. I just popped my SNES cartridge in to see if I was remembering it incorrectly, but damn, this looks worse than the SNES version!

On a side note, barring I'm just blind, this looks fantastic. Yoshi's Island for the SNES was one of my favourite games growing up.

I think this looks lazy as shit, but I thought the same thing about Zelda and Mario and those games turned out to be incredible.

Yeah, this looks ok visually although I have not once seen a video of a 3DS game to actually show off how good a game looks on the screen. Kid Icarus, Zelda and even that Bravely Default look like junk in videos, but on the system they look amazing.

Wait, they're starting the GOTY stuff toda... oh you, Patrick.

Also, where are there two Seinfeld gifs almost in succession here? What is this, the early aughts?

Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

But if you received this game as a present from your grandma, admit it, you'd be relieved a little bit.

You're welcome, and I'll try to be less thorough.

Just a reminder, everyone also said A Link Between Worlds looked bad when the first videos were released, and it ended up looking incredible in person.

Well played, Patrick. Well played.

How does this look uglier than the snes version? :\

Is that baby Mario? Why does he sound like a chipmunk?

Posted by pirogen

Not much hope for this. Aesthetically it just looks grimy compared to the original and even with Tezuka helping out I really doubt the people behind Blinx are going to make something worthy of being mentioned alongside the first game.

Haha! Suck it, Gerstmann!

Jesus Christ yes, please.

This game would be awesome without baby Mario.

Seriously, fuck baby Mario. Long live Yoshi.

This. I think there's a type of 'Nintendo Cycle', where people complain about a Nintendo game early on, based on nothing but trailers, then when the game comes out - it scores really well and is highly praised. Similar cases happened with Mario Galaxy, 3D Land, 3D World, Link between Worlds, and a few others.

I'm one of the people who loves Yoshi's Island (SNES). I was expecting more Mario World (because it was named Mario World 2) but got this gem instead. Glad they are retaining the art style of the original. The bosses were really cool in the original game, hope they can keep it as fresh and fun.

All 3DS videos look kinda bad though and screenshots are even worse, so I'm holding my judgement until I see a trailer in the e-shop.

That was beautifully done Patrick.

One day Nintendo will make a new game, I might be dead when it happens but one day they'll stop remaking the same shit over and over again.

1. I love Yoshi's Island.

2. I remember when A Link Between Worlds was announced and I thought it was hella ugly, but then I played it and not only was it fantastic, but I totally dug the graphics.

That Mega-Shyguy never stood a chance.

The SNES version is prettier than this monstrosity.

I'll give them points for remembering the game at all and at least trying to make it again (remake it? sequel? hell I don't know), but man, this both looks and, much more importantly, sounds terrible.

Who loaned Yoshi the money to buy a new island?

Posted by tourgen

God ... Ryan would have HATED this ^^

Ryan was the Judge Dredd of video games and would not have stood for this bullshit.

Edited by Paindamnation

I'm actually super excited about this.

Posted by maxB

Shit. This looks bad.

That weird "yoshi" at the very start of the video got me so irrationally angry. I can just picture a person recording and making that stupid sound and it causes me a pain that ricochets throughout my entire being. That off my chest, the art style looks alright. It's hard see with all this blood in my eyes, though.

Posted by Gatehouse

So is this just what Nintendo does now, just slap 'New' on all their old titles? C'mon guys, at least come up with some snazzy new names.

Posted by NMC2008

Maaaaaaaaaaan, where the hell is that Yoshi yarn game?

Edited by ossuary

April 1st, Patrick is going to change the background image for all of Giant Bomb to Yoshi's Island... just to fuck with Jeff.

Yeah. This video does look pretty rough, but I think it's just the difficulty of releasing good screenshots and videos from the 3DS. Stuff that looks good on the real screen looks bad when scaled up even just a small amount.

Can I touch fuzzy? And what happens when I do? Important questions!

Posted by BuddyleeR

Graphically this game just looks ugly.

To be fair, those direct feed 3DS videos have always been pretty garbage looking. 3DS games always look 1000 times better in a native resolution, in person. That said, this does look grainier than most 3DS videos.

Posted by Humanity

Can't believe they bothered releasing this garbage again. We suffered once already!
