Oh man, that SNES game. Watching this just made me nostalgia about all the horrible things about this game. However, remembering Nedry telling you to touch the electric fence for an extra life and the mental image of Grant carrying a rocket launcher and grenade launcher blowing up dinosaurs made me chuckle.

I actually have fond memories of the Genesis version, for some reason. It was definitely bad, but if you read the manual and played carefully, you could beat most of it. The raptor stuff was interesting, because eating the little green compys are how you get health. Also, the extra grant missions are just more pain. There's a final T-Rex-chasing-you-while-you're-on-a-raft sequence that is horrible. Also, the T-Rex bone room is a puzzle. You have to crush the raptors under bones or something. It's pretty bad, especially since the game gives you nothing to figure it out. As the raptor, you fight super-Grant in that room. Oh man, that game made me suffer. It had cheat codes for a reason.

I beat the Genesis version. The final boss fight for Grant took me forever since I couldn't figure out what the game wanted me to do.

@SomeDillweed: Maybe, but I think it's the same Retro Duo they used on the Famicom stream.

Don't think so. They used the same console for all three games, you can see the three different system controllers, and even the telltale circular feet of the RetroN.

Aw hell, you're right. I completely missed the feet. And that they didn't switch consoles when they from Genesis to SNES. It's very late here.

Unrelated: Jurassic Park on the Genesis is the very first game I bought with my own money. I was 10 so it was really just money my parents gave me, but you get the idea. I saved up for weeks to get that game. I don't even know why, I wasn't into Jurassic Park or dinosaurs in general... something about magazine previews I read of it really grabbed me for some reason. Lots of Summer afternoons spent doing chores and scouring every inch of the house for loose change went into getting that game. I don't know if it was Stockholm syndrome or I just hadn't been exposed to a lot of genuinely good games to compare it to yet, but I actually really liked Jurassic Park for the Genesis at the time.

I remember buying Jurassic Park on the Genesis when it came out. I could not get past the third level with Grant without cheating and I forgot which magazine at the time (think it was a spinoff of EGM) that gave me the cheat codes, It's a bad game by every imaginable design point of view but it carries heavy nostalgia for me. Oddly enough they released a Lost World game for the Genesis (yes, around 1997 so late in the systems life) that seemed really good. It had a coop mode and was basically built around different objectives and gameplay styles. Me and my friend never beat it but it's worth checking out at some point if you are interested. Because thinking back on it now it was some heavy concept stuff.

The super messed up Sega CD adventureish game, and the pretty good Game Gear side scrolling shooter.

Man, I feel so bad for them. JP for the SNES is a giant open world game. Actually managed to beat it back when I was a kid, even through there are no saves and you have to leave your snes on if you want to sleep. There are like 4 bunkers, the raptor pen, the vistor center, the boat, so many interiors and things to find. Ian Malcom's id card is in the vistor center, but even then you need dennis nedry's card first so you can reboot the computers. It's in a totally different area they never saw, because they didn't go north at the JP gate. The computers are really cool once you get them working, and it's easily my favorite JP game, even with the dated FPS graphics. They do a good job rendering the kitchen, the embro storage, etc. It's actually really decent if you can get past the slow fps and have a faq to guide you through.

As someone who owned and played a ton of the SNES Jurassic Park back when it was out, I could barely contain myself from yelling "TRY GOING NORTH!" when Patrick said "I guess this building is the only place we can go...". To be fair, this was one of those games where reading the manual (which included a map, and a basic guide on what to do first) was essential.

Oh man, that NES Jurassic Park brings back memories of 8bit Famiclones we used to play this on. It was hard as balls, but somehow compelling enough that I spent hours on it. And that start screen is one of the best among NES games.

Was this announced as being a live stream? Completely missed it live, as I have with a few shows lately.

Maybe it's just me, but did they even surface that it would be? Anyone else having the issue (or maybe I'm just going senile).

What is a LARK? A miserable little pile of secrets.

I tried the urban dictionary. I tried wikipedia. It still makes no sense to me in the context of Jurassic. Maybe I'm just not trying hard enough.

Either way I'm surprised the internet hasn't arrived yet - after reading all those youtube comments this has to be the worst combination imaginable for some people... I mean, not only is this a Patrick video, but it lets him mention Jurassic Park "any chance he gets" as much as he wants, for an hour.

Looking forward to checking this one out later.

Let me be the guy then. Patrick's fine, don't get all the general venom that's spewed in his direction.

But! I've just finished this feature, and as established on several occasions prior, he really doesn't know jack shit about Jurassic Park, the movies or the games. As always, super hilarious in the context of him so much wanting to appear knowledgeable about these things, bragging about watching the first movie 10 times in the theater etc.

He doesn't say that his a dinosaur or even a Jurassic Park buff though, just that he loves the movie... You don't have to be all knowledgeable about a subject to love it deeply ;)

When you write Patrick Klepek out in Google, is it just me, or is the first result "is annoying" for anyone else?

Anyway, time to see how this goes, Friday the 13th was a good feature.

I must have had inhuman patience and/or a masochistic streak as a kid to have actually beaten that Genesis game. Even back then I thought it was terrible and figured people only liked it because of the graphics; no idea what actually compelled me to finish it.
