UFC is officially a proper fighting game franchise with a Bruce Lee like character added to the roster.

I'm not the only one that gets the Fred Durst reference in the description of this video, right?

Please tell me I'm not.

I'm a huge UFC and Bruce Lee fan and I think it's pretty harmless for the most part. For fans, it'll be the most realistic way to play as Bruce Lee in any video game to date. Playing as him and kicking some ass would be pretty awesome.

However, I don't like the idea of seeing him get knocked out or choked out though. That part feels a little weird. Not like they're dishonoring him, but it just seems wrong to bring a guy back from the dead in your video game, only to have him knocked out or submitted by a UFC fighter when he was an action star that never lost a fight in his movies. It's part of his appeal and his persona. I guess the UFC has undefeated fighters though that you could see lose in the game. Somehow it just doesn't bother me the same way.

In any case, I hope it's awesome for the fans and I hope they do him justice with his moveset and style. I just cringe at the thought of him getting a KO and then running around the cage with some generic victory animation, flexing, and screaming "What now!?" while beating his chest. They better get it right. He would just bow and make sure his opponent was ok.

Better than using him to hock whiskey.

It's difficult to know where to start with this one.

Funny how so much of the trailer is dedicated to strikes rather than grappling which makes up the largest portion of these fights.

@dsouvannarath:

Keep in mind this article is from Alex. It would be expecting a lot to think he has knowledge on this subject.

Bruce Lee is the perfect choice. He's a legend among MMA fans.

Bruce Lee actually makes sense, so a smart move by EA. It's nowhere as bad as fight night.

No Caption Provided

I don't see the problem here

The problem with it was that you couldn't actually play as The King.

It's a little weird, but it isn't the most outrageous thing ever. No where near the strangest thing Bruce Lee has appeared in.

I don't get alex navarro's comment? Yes Bruce lee was a movie star but he is also a martial arts genius who created his own martial arts? John? Kareem? Fred? Oh I get it it's a joke? Another one falls flat for Alex Navarro......

Oh okay, now I understand. I couldn't believe that anybody would be against playing as the Burger King so thanks for clearing this up.

If Bruce Lee was a UFC Superstar, then humans rode on the backs of Velociraptors 1800 years ago.

@manakin: John and Kareem were Lee's co-stars in Enter the Dragon. Fred was a hidden character in the Fight Club video game as well as a couple of wrestling games, and is often used as a benchmark for random celebrity cameos in combat sports games.

A Bloodsport DLC where I can fight as Chong Li would make this game an instant-fuckin'-buy.

Omg... I've never seen that. That is just complete garbage. Of all the reasons to create a CG Bruce Lee... I can at least say UFC has more of the right idea than a freakin whiskey commercial. How do they even think they're deserving of Bruce Lee and his philosophy representing their name and their product? They get people drunk and laid and hungover. Lee's philosophy was slightly different I think.

I could have sworn they just showed Chael hit some guy. Could be mistaken.

The Bruce Lee bit seems harmless, but that's assuming he isn't the first of like 10 other equally odd entrants. I play my MMA games for the MMA fighters.

edit: you may think "then don't play as them," but I'm thinking of playing online, getting matched up with ridiculous fighters would be super lame.

Bruce Lee made Jeet Kune Do by flushing out inefficient techniques and adding devastating ones. he mixed a good amount of strike focused martial arts and wished to incorporate grappling ones like Jiu-Jitsu but unfortunately didn't live long enough to see it through
