Lego Batman 2 Features the Revolutionary Concept of Talking

The original Lego Batman's problem wasn't necessarily a lack of dialogue, but you've gotta admit, this stuff is pretty adorable.

anyone know if Telltale Games is working on this, or any of the lego games at that matter?

I mean the walking dead was like their best game ever.

Oh hey! That was totally Rob Paulsen, the guy who voiced Yakko on Animaniacs and Raphael on the 90s TMNT cartoon, as The Riddler.

May want to take a gander at this for the partial Animaniacs reunion.

Thank you for that link. I needed something like that tonight. I would have shat my pants if I saw that as a kid.

EDIT: Wait, now I think I understand... I was talking about The Riddler's voice actor, not his true identity - which is of course still Edward Nigma. Least I think that's what you were confused about?

It's a Fight Club reference.

Yeah, this guy gets it!

Hahahahha, man, I love these games. Oddly enough, the addition of voices fits surprisingly well. I was down on the idea, but from sounds like some snappy writing and stellar voice acting, I'm all for this. The original Lego Batman is undoubtedly my favourite of the lot, so hopefully this one will rank pretty close too, if it doesn't top it completely.

Also Rob Paulsen will make for a splendid Riddler.

Is the Riddler voice Jim Carrey? It sounds so much like him.

Nope.

His name is Robert Paulsen?

Well played sir.

The writing is exactly as charming as it needs to be to excuse that these silent character talk now. Competency! Hurrah!

(competency is probably too weak a word. It seems really well done)

@EverydayOdyssey: Is that seriously him or just the Deathspank guy who sounds identical to Qwark? I would buy this game tomorrow if Qwark was in it

Got to say, the voices work and do add a certain something to bring people back to these games.

Damn, I thought I learned that buying these lego games was a waste of money.... but damn if this isn't making me question that.

Also Rob Paulsen is apparently reprising his role as the voice of Not Jim Carrey from the Mask cartoon. I do love Rob Paulsen.

Well, while the games never really "suffered" from the lack of voice acting (in fact, some of the "translated" or "censored" scenes have been quite funny/cute)...its the gameplay and the camera that ruin the fun.

The gameplay is just "mash attack until parts fly out", then "collect all the parts", then "construct all the things"...all while dealing with questionable hit detection, horrid physics...

And if you ever entered a second person into battle, your worst enemy becomes the camera, which will either push the other player off a platform or "unjoin" him/her from the game if you move too far to any boundry.

Sooo, while the addition of voices adds a heaping helping of charm, its not going to fix the real problems of the Lego games.

And if this IGN gameplay/commentary/oh please shut up IGN personalities video shows anything...its that the team behind Lego Batman 2 hasn't really learned anything from any Lego game in the past.

Oh wow, I didn't realized this was coming out next week.

Anyways, looks like the much needed update that the lego games have needed. As long as the writing is witty then the talking works great.

The first talking lego game, now I am happy. PLus it has Superman! Who doesn't want to use all of those powers to instantly finish the boss villain?

The original Lego Batman is a relatively weak entry in the Lego franchise, about as by-the-book as it gets with those games. I felt it lacked that intangible Lego charm.

@i8246i: Have you played them recently? The camera was changed back in HP1 or Pirates so it splits dynamically depending on where the 2 players go. I hated it in Batman when you had to be on the same screen, but that's gone. As for the mechanics...that's largely unchanged, but I think the meat of Lego games is the abilities of each character and what they can do (again, see Batman). Getting through the levels is one thing, finding all the secrets keeps me playing.

The screen splitting kinda made my head hurt when I saw it in gameplay trailers.

That being said, I'm breaking my own "rule" about judging a game before playing a working demo...while I'm still cynical of the final product, I kinda jumped to conclusions.

The game's voice acting seems pretty decent, but whoever is voicing Superman is flat out terrible.

This is a step in the right direction for that long line of lego games. The "Lego" feature got old after the first couple of such games. It is also a relief to hear that the voice talents are mostly "spot-on" and that the script seems witty and lighthearted - perfect for the Lego brand. Truth be told, it shouldn't be any other way.

I am really impressed that the people who make the Lego Games are now giving the Legos voices. The only flaw for me is that Mark Hamil didn't come back as the Joker. He was brilliant in Batman Arkham Asylum.

@Roger778: This joker seems to be having a decent stab at it. I think Mark Hamill's Joker fits the tone of the Arkham games perfectly, I don't know whether his Joker would fit in a Lego version
