This sounds like a room for COD Cuddies or CODIFILES. Keep playing with little boys COD fans, its illegal to be box whispering.

I would like to at least hear some Slipknot! Just saying, that was really music soldiers where listening too!

I don't understand everyone's problem with Linkin Park. They are a talented bunch of dudes that make good, unique music.

The "PREORDER FOR BATTLEFIELD 4 BETA" text is larger than the actual game's logo. What are they trying to tell us?

I feel like this game trivializes soldiers' sacrifices more than anything else.

It's ok to like a band. Any band. Just as it's OK for me to think that same band is overused and spent much of their time writing and recording songs that didn't change enough for me to care after the first couple of albums.

There, I said it, I do not hate this thing that the internet condemns. For the record, I also enjoyed playing the 2010 Medal of Honor.

I didn't enjoy the 2010 Medal of Honor, but I do love me some Linkin Park. At least they're trying to be original still. Really, they sold out? No, I reserve the "sellout" tag for groups like Papa Roach, who turned into another generic love song rock group.

I wonder about that. The Internet has a way different opinion than the general public it often seems. Just the other day I was in a restaurant, and a Linkin Park song came on. Quite a few of the employees were pretty stoked. One girl even said that it was something along the lines of her "jam." It was one of their new songs that I don't know.

I don't want to hate on people for liking "uncool" music, but I'm coming from a place of really liking these guys once and I really wanted to like the Minutes to Midnight album. But fuck, Linkin Park are just shadows for their former radio-friendly cheesy selves. They sound so juvenile without the decency to wink at the camera. (all IMHO of course)

...but someone calling a song their "jam" is either fucking stupid or I really am out of touch.

(I'm out of touch)

@Yummylee: That ending was weird, but I like the idea that early "gangster" Jesse was into Korn and bad nu-metal leading into Breaking Bad.

Japan is better at creating ridiculously jingoistic american nu-metal than the real bands are. The fucking end titles song for Ace Combat: Assault Horizon was hilarious.

And KoRn arent that bad, they've aged better than most metal bands from the 90's.

All of this talk about KoRn got me looking up some of their music to see if I can still enjoy them so many years later. They're not bad, definitely more so of a guilty pleasure, however.

More importantly, this brief run down the musical habits of the 13-17 year old me helped me pick up on bloody Jesse Pinkman starring in a KoRn music video!

these people marketing medal of honor as some sort of love letter to the military make me wanna puke my guts out. what a deliberate and crass play on peoples emotions and even if they do have good intentions there is no way a multiplayer focused fps is in anyway an appropriate homage to people who undergo that kind of thing. its fucking fluff. its not deep. its about kill to death ratios. its just another attempt to get in on that cod money.

I feel the same way, I still like Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance since listening them from high school. Of course my taste have changed to enjoy more and different music out there, but the older you get the less you care about what other people think of your music choices. I can enjoy deep indie music as well as shallow pop music. I always feel when bands like Linkin Park get mentioned, they become an easy punching bag to prove how much cooler someone is. It's funny though because they end up acting like hipsters, but then also hate on hipsters for being snobs too.

I, too, have noticed this in anecdotal circumstances, but I have never been able to pinpoint an idea why. Most of the time I just end up at this point where it could be that they hear certain songs on the radio so often that they grow fond of them, but the answer that is more likely is that the reason why is too varied from person to person to make a definitive answer.

@MordeaniisChaos: Just want to make sure that my emphasis was on the "out of touch" part for the mostly civilian population, not whether this will help sell a game. Reminds me of how often Nickelback gets crapped on, but their albums still sell in the top spot or close. Decided to look into it a bit on this specific example. According to Wikipedia, Nickelback's last album was at number 2, being beaten by Michael Buble by 419 copies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickelback

If I'm at the bar or something, people tend to respond pretty positively to a lot of music that critics or people on forums dislike. This is anecdotal of course. Not really making much of an argument here. I'm just elaborating on some things I've noticed. If it makes any difference to help see what angle I'm coming from, I'll say that I don't care for either of the bands mentioned.

@nrh79: As someone who both interacts with a fair number of people who are not "citizens of the internet" AND real life "Warfighters" I can say that Linkin Park is divisive at best in the large majority of those demographics, so far as my experience can tell. I'm sure there are plenty of fans in the services and worldwide, but their not huge. I rarely hear anyone talk about them, and at best, it'll be a really old song of theirs that someones singing along to. Never their new shit and never just something that comes up.

If you want to make a 'connection' with the service folks, it needs to be some hard shit, or it needs to come from somewhere with significance to that particular demographic, and that is not Linkin Park in the slightest. I think a lot of people see "military tributes" on youtube that are all to some crummy Linkin Park song but my guess is most of those weren't made by service members. Just some teen who has glorified ideals of being a hero/martyr when he grows up.

Haven't heard the song so maybe it really is a 'touching' piece that really does communicate gratitude for the real "operators" (the use of that word alone shows this is all marketing and very little to do with respecting the service members of this country), but I doubt that and I doubt that it'll be all that incredible. Kind of a shitty band, and that doesn't change just because they appreciate the sacrifices being made by our military.

When I was younger I was way into Linkin Park and their first two albums (and that Live in Texas DVD/CD too) to the point where I joined their fan club. Looking back I'm not that embarrassed, they were cool to me at the time and I still like a lot of their old stuff, but I can see how cheesy now. It's juvenile in some ways, but hey I like it.

What I don't get is that they still have fans, particularly their old fans, that like their new sound. They sound so fucking bad now, like radio friendly shit. Seriously, I'm not a Linkin Park hater, but fuck Burn it Down (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxytyRy-O1k ) is so far removed from what they were (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1l9RY2Jhyo0). Once again, I know they weren't exactly cutting-edge, but their old stuff is better. Bands can evolve and change but these guys are unrecognisable now. I doubt they have any old fans left, just "don't call me an emo" kids who understand Chester's pain. Linkin Park's new stuff is the most middle-of-the-road shit on the radio... (before the flames, all of this is IMHO obviously).

This won't sell any extra copies of the MoH: Warfighter, it just makes the product look lame, tired and out of touch. Let the game speak for itself.

Do you guys want Justin Bieber and Katy Perry to make songs for games?

The audiences for Justin Bieber and Katy Perry are entirely different, and for those audiences, those artists can actually be considered good by those audiences. The target audience for Linkin Park, however, remains the same (and it does include the same audience that plays copious first-person shooters), yet their music is infinitely worse than it was ten years ago, and that audience acknowledges it.

Didn't Katy Perry sing a song in Simlish or some other bullshit for The Sims 3? She has her own expansion too. I don't know what items you get, though. Lollipop dildos? Probably.

Hell yeah! Mike uses straight up unaltered samples from audio libraries in his songs. Whenever "Believe Me" plays on the radio I'm thinking it's one of the five different commercials that use the same string sample from the Soundtrack Pro libraries. HE'S A GENIUS I TELLS YA!
