Of course it does, silly. Hell, Ultima Online, Everquest and FFXI still do. Just because you don't care about something, it doesn't make it go away. Check your MMO privilege.

It still exists, as far as I can tell it still has a solid enough userbase to have kept it going all this time. Considering where most MMOs seem to wind up I'd say LotRO has been pretty damn successful.

I understand Patrick's dislike for the genre but that's no reason to insult the game and it's audience just to make a joke.

I love MMOs and I have the same reaction as Patrick. I just assumed it went belly up.

Yes...lets make a joke about the games that we dont like to play. But I guess Patrick is too busy with playing whatever is the next so called indy game to save the gaming genre.

If I were to be totally objective and discount my fondness for games I have serious nostalgia glasses for, LOTRO is probably one of the best MMOs ever made. Good art design, good graphics, decent combat, admirable reverence for the source material. I'm glad it's still around. I'm well over any desire to play it, however.

LOTRO is one of the more successful and active MMO's out there. Ignorance is bliss.

Having played a little bit of just about every MMO for the past decade plus, me and my MMO buddy actually dumped quite a bit of time into LOTRO. It was not a terrible game at all.

It's just a joke. People need to not get so butt hurt about it. You seriously think they only make fun of MMOs? They make fun of everything.

Holy shit you guys: Calm yourselves, grow up, and get a sense of humor for goodness sake. (I play lotro, it's great. It's CRAZY that it still exists!)

Funny that this has come up - I went back to try LOTRO again this week, for the first time since it launched. It's very slow paced, but it's really quite good as far as hotbar based F2P MMO's go.

@oueddy: there's making jokes and being funny and then there's a continued disdain for a entire genre just because you're not into it. If someone made a joke about "Gone Home" along the lines of "Oh look another pretentious indy game." or "Who would buy this game?" on this website the shit storm would be huge.

LOTRO hasn't had any mainstream attention in quite sometime so for someone like Patrick to not know that it still existed isn't that farfetched....he doesn't like MMO's, so what? Just ignore the line of text he wrote and just watch the video

One of my favorite MMOs! Been playing since Mines of Moria expansion. Lots of awesome exploration and pretty good content. :)

Yeah ... I was pretty sure it was already in there. Haven't really played LOTRO, but I was sure I had seen shots of that.

Then of course, it seems they only added the Riders of Rohan with last year's expansion, so ... I guess the game didn't include a lot of the content you'd think would be there from the start. ... Moria has to be in there, at least? Right?

I've never touched LOTRO but that sub-headline is fucking lame. It's exactly the same cookie cutter negativity that the worst Giant Bomb commenters do, and no staff member should stoop to that. If you want to make a clever joke, come upwith a clever joke, don't just post "huehuehue, people still play this?!" for the 10,000 time. That's some bottom-feeder, "Annoyed Gamer" bullshit.

I think we can all do better than that now.

The whole conceit of the game is that it takes place concurrent to the story of the LotR trilogy and focuses on a lot of non-Fellowship stuff, occasionally intersecting with that story. So the amount of leeway there has allowed the game to only recently start moving into the plot of The Two Towers.

I think the people defending the "joke" are worse then the people who think that MMOs on this site get shat on far more often then any other game. It was a dig on people who play games they dont like. That's fine. But for people to get but hurt that people called them on it is a bit odd...
