MAG Thing - Part 01

I really wish they did more sets of videos like these when covering games.

I think the "Fun Factor" wasn't what I expected in this game LOL :).

And the winner for most generic tired-ass game: MAG!

I can't wait for part 2 of this series because it's going to be so funny to hear you recall all of those moments that you could have healed yourself without running back to a supply point.   Beyond that, hearing your opinions on the incredible lack of tutorials as you further your PMC career should provide some great four letter words.   
 
I'll admit that the game is fun, but the lack of tutorials for Squad Leaders and just plain playing the game are ridiculous.  And don't get me started on the fact that there isn't a way for me to really "try" the other factions before committing to one.  I started with Valor and went as far as level 6 before bailing because the M4 just felt like a paintball gun and now I'm level 21 Raven.  The sad part is that even the Raven guns don't feel right.  There doesn't seem to be any weight to them nor do they have any real world recoil, so I'm considering throwing away my lvl. 21 Raven character just to try a SVER weapon and see if it's at all different. 
 
I like the game and have grown bored of MW2 after prestiging once and getting back to level 70 for the second time, but I wish the weapons in MAG felt half as good as they do in MW2 and the hit detection was better.  The game has potential once people realize they should be playing an objective based game rather than a Death Match game.  Cooperation and communication will help this game become what it was intended to be.

I'm just watching for the hilarious antics of the Giantbomb crew. I'll just listen to what they have to say rather than actually watching this crap game.

Those are some of the worst reload animations I've seen in quite a while, worse than STALKER actually!

How do u revive in this game?

Too bad this isn't on the 360. This game looks so good.

I think Bad Company 2 is gonna be more of game for me then this.

The aiming and reloading animations look very clunky. Also it's a military shooter and I have Modern Warfare 2 for that. Kind of don't want another one even if it does have 250 players online at once.

MAG is awesome so far. i'm just a few levels away from squad leadership (15.) it starts out a bit slow with the 64 player battles, but it really gets good in domination, when all 256 people are in there. and jeff might not be so great in the video, but it does take time to get used to this game, so cut some slack.

You guys have to play the game. It is very deep and tactile. The teamwork is great. Also...jeff wasn't playing too well.
 
For the people that want to see more chaos, domination=256 players. Squad leaders have all the options-airstrikes, etc. 24 points to capture/defend!

Can't be squad leader until level 15. That is just telling you what the current objective is.

When you hit the level cap you have the option to change factions(Raven/SVER/Valor).

Factions are really the same, just different names and apperance.

You could have used your first medical aid kit to heal yourself. Now you can heal others as well with your new kit that you got.

It took me less than 10 minutes to realise I had zero interest in this game.

Seems kind of hard to spot dudes, but maybe it's just the video.

I will admit that the premise of a 128 player online game sounded exciting to me, this just doesn't interest me anymore. It doesn't seem anywhere near as chaotic as it could've been. Nor does it seem like they worked out a good way to organize the teams. For being built around co-operation, it doesn't look like they give people an incentive to actually do that.

Not liking the music.

The Penny Arcade comic about this game seems to be pretty true, so no thanks.

I just enjoyed the Ecks vs Sever reference.  This game looks like if you aren't in from the start, you're going to be hopelessly behind as far as gear and attributes go within a couple of weeks. 

played the beta. you would think 70 players in one space would be like some kind of glorious war-epic movie. 
 
it aint. its you being shot in the back alot and spending most of your time on the ground bleeding or in the respawning que. maybe if we weren't able to die so quickly it would be more fun.

This game is incredibly fucking addicting. I'm alright with the people going "i don't know about this one", maybe if you go out and rent it first... you can see how truly awesome it really is, BUT i personally play with a bunch of my friends... and this game is huge on teamwork.

1. I understand he's still learning, but he knocks the game for not telling you anything. Here's a hint: ask your teammates! That's what the game wants you to do. 2. He also didn't know that he could heal himself without using the ammo crates. You get the first aid kit at level 1. The med kit he bought at the end of the preview is for healing others.

3. He kept hitting the dpad down to set the FRAGO. You don't have to do that. The FRAGO will set on it's own and it doesn't expire. Plus he wasn't squad leader anyway so it didn't tter. You can't qualify until you're level 15.

4. The reason he kept dying is because he kept aiming down the sights. This isn't MW2. Shooting from the hip is much more effective at the lower levels unless you have the Steady Aim ability.

5. He was under the impression that armor depends on your class. It doesn't. You can have as much or as little armor you want know matter what class you pick.

6. If you're sniping you have to go prone otherwise you won't kill crap.

7. Jeff doesn't know about Respecing. He criticizes the game for not holding your hand because the decision you make early on will stick you with you, but they acually don't. When you hit around level 10, you can completely erase your character's skill set and start from scratch with whatever points you've already accumaled. That means if I was a level 2 and didn't mean to pick fast reload (like Jeff did), I can Respec and put the point to a more useful skill later on.

Hopefully by the time Giantbomb's real review comes out they would have figured this out by then.

I like the idea of picking a faction and sort of being forced to stick with it. It forces a sense of loyalty which is a rarity nowadays.

Have to admit that MAG is growing on me, was always a fan of the large 64 player battles in Modern Warfare (PC). You get a different experience with that many players. Might have to consider this one more seriously.

It's like if you took Battlefield 2 but added an unlock system inferior to what Modern Warfare provides then removed the keyboard/mouse precision for a ps3 controller and released it in 2010 with uninspiring visuals.

I'm pretty sure some producer said that once you are high enough level, the other factions wants you to come over, and you become a sort of free agent. so you can play the other factions without deleting your dude.

Small tip for Jeff:
 
You could already heal yourself with the First Aid Kit. Which again is it's only purpose. The Medical Kit is the first and necessary step to resuscitate teammates. And it's worthwhile the points you spend on it, because you get a ton of XP for reviving someone. And it ultimately helps your team, because it's a lot faster than respawning.

After watching this video I kind of want to play this game. The massive battles could be awesome. I wish I had a PS3.

You know what? When I get my PS3 fixed, I'm buying this game.
