why would you assume the gorillas aren't magic? is that because they aren't as good as humans, huh? fuckin racist D:

False: All gorillas are magical.

I'm gonna have to check this game out. Nothing I like more than when RPG's explore themes other than sci-fi or fantasy.

Was Risen 1 about pirates aswell? I seem to remember this series being very similar to Morrowind at the time and use a fantasy setting. Somehow I don't remember any of it having to do anything with pirates.

No, the pirates theme is new to Risen 2. The first one, you could side with the Inquisition, or The Don's merry band of hunters/thieves/etc.

I'd like to see a QL - game informer was not kind to the combat in this game, though they seemed to really like the rest of it.

This game just landed on my radar, thanks to that post title.

Are they inquiring about gorillas?

IGN said the same thing, I demand QL

Oh thanks, yah I knew I remembered it being a lot more fantasy than piratsy. Although this is like a mix of pirates and fantasy I think?

waaaay more interested in this game now. It looks like a nice change of pace from the dungeon crawlers and shooters I've been playing.

Will probably try this out. Really enjoyed the last one.

Magic gorillas can only ever improve something.

I hope the voice acting is this good in-game, sounds great.

Open world action RPG's are my favorite genre by a pretty wide margin. I enjoyed Gothics 1-3 and even found things to like about Gothic 4. I really like Two Worlds 2, and I enjoyed myself with Two Worlds 1. I especially enjoyed Risen and I thought the combat was one of the better features of that game.

Trust me when I say this: This game has the worst combat of any action RPG I have ever played. It is baffling how bad it is. It's like they took out everything that was interesting about combat in Risen, left in the bad parts, and then made them worse.

I'm sorry to say that this is the first game in a long time that I've regretted paying full price for.

All gorillas are magical.

Posted by RebelBlob

@Vadren: Regret paying for a Piranha Bytes game? That's worth a keelhauling.

yeah the combat sucks .. but basicly the same suckness (not drasticly worse than risen , risen was "easier" ) , this time they just pumped up enemy hp too much .. even starting critters take like 15 hits and good luck with the first dude who enforces his might on you , this weakness in combat actually helps fuel the immersion in the previous games but i have to admit its getting a bit old:/ especially when ppl in the game expect you to be able to fend for yourself , and clearly you cant heh

Posted by Nitrocore

@Vadren: You're kidding right? you played Gothic 1 - 3, it's improved in Risen 2 than those games, it just takes getting used to, like all of PB rpgs. This is coming from someone who's completed the first Gothic twice, the second 3 times, and Gothic 3 and Risen 1 once. It's no God of War meets COD, but it's not as bad as it was in previous games.

Posted by Tennmuerti

Didn't like Risen 1.
Not into pirates.
Pass.

Posted by Vadren

I'm not kidding in the least. Gothic1 - 3 required timing to keep attack chains going and your hits would interrupt the attack animations of enemies. It wasn't good by any means, but it's better than what Risen2 has. No dodging, your hits don't interrupt enemy attack animations, but their hits interrupt yours. The worst is when getting attacked by multiple animals that can't be blocked or parried, have almost no telegraphing of their attacks and there is no dodging to quickly get away from them.

Although I enjoyed this trailer, I'm very skeptical. Like others have said before me, this needs a quick look!

And thus millions of copies are sold

Posted by Nitrocore

@Vadren: There is dodging and you can interupt there hits, you just have to buy those skills. If you've played the Gothic games you should be aware that very little is handed to you on a plate at the begining.

Posted by redrohX

The pirates meets fantasy theme is pretty cool. A quick look is demanded!

I REALLY miss shields from Risen 1... a sword does not make a competent "shield" analogue

Been watching some gameplay footage in YT... man, it looks rough.

Posted by rudyarr

is this the new pirates of the Caribbean movie?

Posted by Bezerker85

July 31st now? They just keep pushing this game back farther and farther.

Here's the question that I have: all of the reviews I read said the combat was relatively unfavorable...but none of them address whether it was something they played on a gamepad or with keyboard/mouse. If they played it on a gamepad and it wasn't that good, then I might consider either waiting for a price drop or just not playing it...which would be sad overall. If it's something that they played on keyboard/mouse and would be more favorable on a gamepad, then I would probably wait to see what the 360/PS3 reviews end up being like.

Everything I have seen said it was more the flow of combat being poor and the bad animations, not keyboard vs controller.

I was slighty excited about this game, but I haven't heard anything good from anyone :/

@radioactivez0r: The combat in Risen starts out seemingly impossible and clunky, but once it clicks it's pretty deep. I think it might be the same for this - steep learning curve.

So if GB do a QL (initialismsssss), I hope it's with someone who's played the game for a fair bit to get a hang of it all.

Posted by zeus_gb

I played the first one and enjoyed it so I might have a look at this one as well.

Posted by crusader8463

I don't like action RPGS, Turn based 4 life, but the setting and story look interesting. If I can ever find the time to play an RPG now that I'm working again I would be interested in setting the game to easy peasy mode and flying through it.

I'm so fucking sick of pirates.
