PSYCHED!

Posted by Pazy

I cant wait for this game! I have my team set up already.

His name is filthy rich?

Posted by Cloudenvy

Never been an Armored Core fan, but cool I guess!

Posted by lordofultima

As an Armored Core fan, this actually sounds and looks dope. I hope people actually play it!

He went from selling apple jam to developing videogames? What will his daughter say?

(will YOU be able to get the cookie?)

The online sounds really interesting, like a real next step after Chromehounds. Especially love the operator stuff, being able to assist the other guys on your team.

It's kinda funny, From Software was pretty much on my list of developers to avoid before Demon's Souls but I feel a lot more confident in this Armored Core than the last few.

Posted by Stahlbrand

I played these games on the PS1 and the first PS2 one, and I love Dark Souls now, maybe this will be worth a look?

No first person perspective in the trailer and minimal HUD - I hope you can turn on some screen clutter like 'external temperature' and such - I liked that in the previous AC games I played.

Also, I really didn't care for the 'net casual' voice over -- if its not live, write it down in proper English and read it back.

@nohthink: Yeah. Bitch.

I hope the controls are more streamlined in this version.

I liked the previous PS3 Armored Core games (didn't play much of the PS1/PS2 ones), but it's really annoying that they keep making them in third person. What made MechWarrior, Shattered Steel and even Heavy Gear and SHOGO so awesome was the sense of scale, weight and presence that you get from the cockpit view (combined with good sound design, of course), and which no third person mech game I've played so far manages to do.

Armored Core is a 3rd person game. This would go against everything the game is to make it default to first-person. I don't like MechWarrior at all.

This video made me smile. :)

Posted by fisk0

@lordofultima: They could have an optional janky first person mode, like Skyrim's third person mode for crazy people. I just want the option to play the Mech game as God intended them to be played.

That or a PC release where that could be modded in.

The operator is bringing back the commander mechanic that Battlefield steered away from. I like the idea but it looks like the operator cannot switch to the role of an active player like the commander could.

Wonder what options are available for when you have an inexperienced operator? Can you switch them to an active role and bring in another person? Can you kick them from the game?

Posted by Stahlbrand

@lordofultima: I always played AC from a 1st person perspective. Switching only to 3rd when I needed some platforming.

I am curious about the Chromehounds-like features, I missed that game the first time around because I didn't get an Xbox until the season of Bioshock and RB.

Posted by SharkMan

i know what AC really stands for :)

Posted by lead_farmer

I was not excited for this game at first, but being able to see little more is starting to turn me around. Haven't played Armored Core since 2.

Posted by fisk0

@Stahlbrand: that first person mode must've been in the earlier games, right? I thought I pressed every button in AC4/For Answer to find one there.

Posted by Stahlbrand

@fisk0: I'm pretty darn sure, but it was years ago. I only played the PS1 and first PS2 game, and I remember them having first person perspectives and HUDs with extra options to clutter the screen and make it look more 'mech-y'. I didn't try Four.

Posted by Olivaw

I sure hope this is better than the last three or four Armored Core games! It would nice to have a game featuring giant robots that I care about again, especially since it seems like neither Hawken nor MechWarrior 5 is coming out anytime soon.

Posted by Stahlbrand

Look hard at the preview image before you play the video....

"Toggle Full Screen" tooltip box, heh. Guess the mouse was hovering over the screen when they took the capture for the still image.

Posted by Agent_Eli

Another FromSoftware joint! If I like this half as much I liked Dark Souls, then I Can't wait.

Posted by mbr2

As someone who's never played and barely seen a mech game that Hawken game intrigues me waaay more than this footage. Like this might aswell be a total conversion of one of those Dragon Ball Z games (No offense). Where as in Hawken it actually feels and looks like you're in a heavy-ass walking steel beast.

lol, From Software and Times New Roman.

It's their font now.

YO 'FILTHY" Rich! DUDE IS STRAIGHT FILTHY!

Edited by Itwastuesday

This hit Japan today or the other day or something. The impression I got from the streams is that it doesn't seem much more accessible than the other current gen Armored Core games. For people who are already fans it seems pretty fucking cool. Of course, I haven't played it myself yet.

This game has a 'detective vision' sort of thing (for lack of a better term). When you aim on an enemy AC using this, you get a pretty cool readout of data pertaining to their AC's loadout. This is both helpful in online play to see what your enemies are working with, and it looks pretty rad if you're into big dumb future robot interfaces.

I'll buy this. Also Mr. Rich says "go ahead" alot.

Game Sammary.

Played the hell out of AC 2 back in the day, so I'm looking forward to this.

And I've been thinking of something like this operator stuff for a while now, nice to see it in action.

I havent played an Armored Core for a long time but I'm willing to jump back in.

I know for a fact ACIII and Last Raven had first-person views, but they were unlocked by beating the game. I fucking hated having to completely rebuild my mech every few battles to beat some special mission, so needless to say, I never actually finished either game. Still got enough mileage out of them to be worth the purchase, although I do wish they'd had a more fully-fleshed-out online (and local co-op) system (though I'm sure that was all about the limitations of the PS2 more than anything else).

Ohhh it's a highly anticipated video game? That's just powerful.

Posted by PurplePartyRobot

Oh-ho! Five player shootin' dudes in robot suits! Well hold the goddamn phone! Also, how many Kurasawa laser beam rifles and laserblades can I put on my robot?

Posted by Chocobo_Blitzer

Go ahead and fly that flag

Posted by Lazyaza

Ick some of the worst mech designs I've ever seen.

Posted by Allison

This just makes me want a proper Front Mission, SRPG and all.

Except... except that was the last Front Mission game.

wah :(:(:(

Edited by Tennmuerti

For lack of Mech Warrior 5 I will probably try this out.

Need to scratch that mech itch.

Posted by MrXD

*looks at the video title*

You forgot the 'ed' in 'Armor'....

Edited by iPliskin

The sense of scale and power is just pathetic, it doesn't look or feel like you're manipulating a 65-ton+ mecha, i'm not asking for a R.A.D. sense of scale here, but c'mon... it just looks like you're playing with dudes carrying jetpacks, lame!.

Posted by Korne

I like that they are going back to the old style of Armored Core gameplay. AC4 was waaaay too hectic, so the slower combat is nice. I also like the idea of an operator in theory, but you have to know who you are playing with for him to be effective.

THEY DIDN'T BROTHER PUTTING IN MEGAMAN IN MvC3 but now they're starting Mega's 25th year by having the bad box art him in a less popular fighting crossover game?
