@Napalm: First off, that would be bad design if there wasn't an alternate door for you to escape out of, if you couldn't at least just shoot the window then climb to the roof or something. It 'would' be dumb if they made a building with nothing in there with no means of escape, but countering that argument by having Leon do a sonic-roll right out of the window is equally as dumb.

And furthermore: WHERE IS THIS EVEN GOING?!!??? It's like you're fighting me at every chance because I said RE4 is a very dumb, highly exaggerated action game, which has spread to the rest of the series. And I could go on forever about why the tonal shift from RE4 onwards will always irk me, but what's the point? I feel like that is where this conversation is headed, but I've already done so much of that in the past that I find it hard to care at this point.

The fact of the matter is, like I said in my first reply, the games are much more centred towards high-octane set-pieces and showing off acts of inhuman agility or strength by the main characters, and it all began with RE4 and has continued onto ORC. I really don't know how this became a debate @_@

I don't really think it's fair to lump Resident Evil 4 with the all of the other post-RE4 games. That game is in a league of its own, and no other [Resident Evil title] has managed to do what it did and be as groundbreaking as it was at the time.

It's fine if you prefer the earlier games' playing styles, but don't act like the "inhuman" tag can be used only for games from Resident Evil 4 to current stuff.

"Hey, just give a minute. I have to do a one-eighty turn before I can move. Hang on. Hang on. Okay, we're good. Phew! That took like four hours and I'm all sweaty!"

And I'm only responding because you're quoting me. I'm not actively debating you, either. We've always been cool, so I'm just making conversation.

@Abyssfull: Well, zombies aren't real, so nothing is really realistic about Resident Evil anyway.

Beside, it's kind of dumb if you get swarmed in a building or enclosure, and then it becomes, "oh sorry bro, you gotta use that door over there that the zombies are pouring out of if you need to go. This window is made of invisible steel."

@Abyssfull: As I mentioned: minor. I think that's the only over-the-top acrobatics from Leon. There's gameplay incentives to being able to jump out of windows and jump down from roofs too, so I don't see the issue. And yeah, using a ladder does matter. If you're being chased, the last thing you'll want to do is take a few seconds to climb down a ladder. You should be looking to get out of dodge from the nearest window and find a way to pace the oncoming torrent. I don't see what's wrong with giving the player more mechanics to defend themselves or escape, especially when it was done in such a smart way with Resident Evil 4. They gave you enough to provide you with options, but didn't rely solely on them, or use them to overpower you in any fashion.

I'm not saying it wasn't useful, I'm just saying it's all really dumb and overly stylistic like ORC is. I'm not condemning the fact that Leon continuously dives out of first floor windows (though I really, really can't stand that laser room show) because it made it handy to get around sometimes--though if you really want to suggest the reason that diving out of windows helped him escape from enemies, then why does he still do it even when all the Ganados have been dispatched and he's completely safe for the moment? Impatience?

It sounds like you're trying to put a realistic twist to justify why it was all in there, which for one: is pointless because there's nothing realistic about a lot of the feats Leon does throughout the game and two: I'm not arguing against it. I'm just saying that the way it was presented was like from a dumb, action movie--but practical from a gameplay standpoint, I know--and that's it's very similar to how things are being treated in ORC as well - least for the CGI cutscene in any case.

Hm? I remember some minor acrobatics in Resident Evil 4. That was already a great game, so I don't remember that kind of stuff affecting the quality at all. It got a little bit too crazy at the end of Resident Evil 5, though.

Minor?? Leon is constantly diving out of windows and off of bell towers (even when there's a perfectly good ladder there) and shit throughout. Also, Yo Dawg:

I'm not saying it detracted from the quality (though I personally don't prefer how overblown the tone for the series has become, even if I've adjusted) but my point was, with the reply, that all the stylistic fighting and super-surreal gymnastic ninjitsu in ORC has been present for a long time now.

Y'know, while I still prefer the traditional "there's still tension and horror here" Resident Evil games, I gotta admit this is looking cool. The whole attitude of "fuck it. This is a spinoff. All action. Here's all the monsters we've ever had - have fun trying not to die" is going to be fresh for sure. So long as Capcom really drives home the fact that this is a spinoff - this is more "Mario Kart" than a traditional Mario game, y'know? It's always hard for publishers to do that, for some reason.

Between this and DmC, I'm really happy with the fresh takes that Capcom is inserting into some of their waning franchises.

One thing's for sure. This is WAY more appreciated than them forcing their other co-op online games on us. I'd rather have this than another oddly controlling Lost Planet or flat-out janky Monster Hunter.

Well from a gameplay standpoint, it might be negative. But from a purely awesome and badass standpoint, this 5 minute trailer puts all of the RE movies to shame.

This is why I hate most gamers and Youtubers, they never do any research on a game before posting something silly about it or they don't pay attention to the trailer/video and wan't to ask dumb questions.

@Abyssfull: Yep, as a fan since the original they've already jumped the shark if you ask me but I'm willing to accept this game as a fun jaunt through familiar territory. It'll just be cool to go back to Raccoon City once again, and as a part of a clean-up crew it makes sense for it to be more action focused this time as well.

Incredible trailer! Hope the game is decent.

@Abyssfull: I don't know, I thought Leon and Ashley were extremely organic in RE4 actually. Some of the most 'realistic' interpretations of characters involved in a 'apocalyptic/outbreak' situation like that. I was impressed. These characters seem like a bit too much. They're all trying to be too unique, with their different suits and colors and nonsense like that. It doesn't feel professional.

I always loved the image of the Umbrella forces being unique and completely anonymous. Like Hunk and his team in RE2. These blokes look a bit too 'cartoony' for my tastes, like they're trying to be the dark Power Rangers or something.

Well it's kinda the same with the STARS unit, since each member had a different colour for their jacket to better distinguish each other. I can agree that their outfits are very broad, over the duplicate USS operatives, but you can chalk that up to these guys being the Elite of the Elites. They're the best of the very best that Umbrella has to offer. Plus they would of had to make each character look more unique and distinctive since it's a class-based shooter of course. Not to mention that it would look pretty boring if you had a squad where they all looked the exact same.

Another reason they couldn't all wear the same armour as one another is also because they're finally being given the lead in something. It's just like how in Republic Commando, each soldier had their own distinctive appearance over the usual all-white armoured drones. They're no longer gun fodder (or Birkin fodder when the USS are concerned..) and are now actual characters.

Oh and c'mon, RE4 doesn't give close to a realistic interpretation of anything. Leon S Kennedy was elevated to being a smarmy, one-liner spewing ninja in RE4, and Ashley was the damsel in distress archetype turned up to 11--she couldn't be more completely fucking useless and annoying. Everyone from RE4 onwards has been overblown to such exaggerated proportions (Chris and his He-Man arms, Ada and her super cartwheels, Wesker and his Matrix moveset) that the cast of ORC I think fit in perfectly.

I've been playing RE games since the first RE came out on the PS with that awful cover. I have to say, i'm not terribly excited about this game, the gameplay looks dull and generic. The characters are a bit too exaggerated for my tastes, and the concept of the entire game is just a bit boring.

Though I will say this, they certainly did a great job with this trailer.

I'm with you about the gameplay, but the characters look like they reach the same length of exaggeration as every other character has from RE4 onwards.

What's weird is how more and more the series is empowering the player with increasingly effective melee attacks, too. RE4/RE5 with the context-sensitive melee counters, and now you can outright unleash a series of slashes and stabs with your knife like a ninja; remember the old days when the knife was nothing but a certified deathwish in combat?

Also the PS1 RE cover is outstanding. It's so hilarious that I think it kinda fits in with the rest of the game.

Cool as the trailer was, I think the world could do with a break from RE, how many times can the resurrect the raccoon city story arc. For an abandoned infested city it's a very busy place.
