I noticed there were renegade points going up during combat. I wonder if they got rid of that for the final release.  They looked here almost like achievements, popping up when you did certain combat maneuvers.  Maybe people tried to spam that to bulk up their points, although I can see in-combat decisions you make still affecting alignment without it being overwhelming.

I'm so glad I was an adept in ME.  I hope they are even more powerful in this.

it looks like even if your character is not an adept, you'll definitely want one in your team.

Looks fun as shit but I'd only ever use throw and shockwave.  The new singularity kinda rips off that thing from The Darkness.  I'll probably stick to Soldier for survivability so I can just revive whatever biotic teammate I use.  Probably the new asari chick.  I'm really hoping for the ability to use Kaidan again because Kaidan with these abilities and his tech would be a juggernaut.

@Wiseblood:   Tweaking I could see such as changing hair style or color, I just hope they don't allow sex changes, because while still medically possible, it would feel completely out of place for the Shepard character in my opinion.  If a player wants to switch from male to female or visa-versa, then they might as well just start a whole new character.

Hopefully they've improved the character customization with more customization options.  If that's the case it will be nice to have the option to tweak your character's appearance.

I'm saddened to read so many people played a solider in ME1. Biotics and techs were much more fun and powerful later in the game. I personally played a AI hacking speced Infiltrator and later a Vanguard.

So, does this mean we'll have the option of switching classes at the start of the game?  Will my Vanguard be able to pick the Adapt or something else?  Geez...I wonder if I should go replay the game.   EDIT: I read from other posts that you will have that option.  I can understand that, but appearance too?  That baffles me.

The adept class sounded really cool in concept; just sitting back and being able to control the battlefield with a swish of your hand, but even after reading about the new projectile systems I still wasn't entirely sold on the class as I didn't entirely like the feel of some of the biotic powers in the first game. However, this video really shows off the powers of the adept well and I'm now actually considering whether I want to start with an adept in Mass Effect 2 instead of porting my old character over from the original.

"
You will most likely just import you gender(since your love interrest will be returning) and choises. The class you where in ME had zero effect on the story so you will most likely get to choose a new class if you want.

IGN just put up an Engineer video.  It looks pretty cool, you can summon a combat drone and you can incinerate/freeze enemies.  The Infiltrator is my class of choice too so I'm anxious to see what its improvements are too.

They've said that when you max a power out you'll be able to "evolve" it in different and varying ways. And it won't be something like "oh this power does a lot more damage now."

@pause422: Well then perhaps my Shepard just happened to go through a ridiculous amount of biotic training in between the first and second games!

you played a soldier? my first playthrough was a soldier, but I've gotten hooked on the vanguards/infiltrators after a playthrough with each. An adept with a sniper rifle specialization is ownage too.

Brad you dont really have to worry, they said when you bring whatever class it is over into the second, your class isnt something that sticks, you are free to choose another class entirely while loading that save still.

The first Mass Effect was one of the only games where I picked a soldier/warrior class over a wizardy spellcaster type of character, but in the second one I think it's safe to say I will be a future mage. HOORAY!

Using the adept powers in ME was deeply satisfying. Yanking enemies out of cover with the singularity and throwing a grenade into the swirling mass of dudes never got old.

One nice thing about ME2 is apparently those "mixed" classes will have their own unique abilities.  They showed off the Vanguard earlier and it has a cool looking charge move, so it doesn't just have a subset of the Adept abilities.

Adept was my first class in ME and I'll definitely be carrying that character over for the second one. So much fun at the higher levels once you've gotten down the trees in a couple of the powers.

From the trailer we see in the character menu only 5 biotic powers you can put points in:
Warp
Heavy Throw
Singularity
Pull
Shockwave

Does not look very "deep" or varied so far.
