I think it could be interesting, especially in a game that was more combat focused and overwhelming. One of the things that I liked about a game like Homefront was that is became an auditory clusterfuck on the battlefield. At the same time, you needed those audio queues to know what was going on. The disorientation can come from too much sound or very little sound while in combat, and removing that information could work... but perhaps not in this game.
