For those who didn't read the whole blog about it; You DO get wrex, so long as you didn't kill him in the first game. Grunt is his cover up character for if you killed him.
 
Also, you WILL be able to have your squad from ME1, since they accompanied you on your ship (normandy).
This is a sequel people. This isn't 1,000 years in the future, this is 10-20 yrs later, the squad returns (as stated on Bioware's website, by the forum via the lead game designer.) not positive if it's everyone, but from what has stated, everyone that didn't die from the first one in your  squad, rejoins you in the second game (unless a few certain characters die during cutscenes at the beginning of the second game)

I'm getting the impression that Wrex won't be playable in this game. If that's the case, consider me bummed out.

Nobody replaces anyone (well, it probably depends on your choices in ME1). 
 
Wrex is a Vanguard, this lizard slug looks more like a plain Soldier to me. 
 
Also, Wrex is quite thoughtful (for a Krogan anyway) while guy here seems just another nihilistic powerhouse. 
 
Which is ultimately good! Full on out Krogan demolition squad, muahaha. 
 
But, how in the universe are we supposed to both fit them inside the Mako???

So wait, isn't that just a remake of the mandolarian armor from KOTOR 1 and also the most bro rpg name for some shit armor.

Wait.... so you can have allies (and presumably foes) bum rush their targets?  Combat sounds like its gonna get a bit more dynamic than I remember it being in ME 1.

Krogans are awesome... but no one can replace Wrex.
