Everything about this game looks like it would make patrick say that Everything about this game looks amazing when in fact Everything about this game looks a hell of a lot like some Metal Slug rip-off.

So? Metal Slug looked (and played) amazing. Plus, this game apparently adds some RPG aspects to the mix.

I feel sorta bad because the game looks really gorgeous and the girls have really nice bouncing pixel boobies - but I can't shake this feeling of "enough, please, no more pixel side scrollers.."

This just made me want to play Metal Slug

Just glad we don't have to wait on the PS4 version to hit to have it come out on Steam. Looks amazing.

Agreeing with others getting the Metal Slug vibe with this trailer epically the parts where the enemy soldiers took a shot and ducked behind their cover. Looks alright, nothing really amazing stood out for me personally. I like tits though.

Looks great; the pace does seem oddly slow, though.

I was in from the moment I saw that it appeared to be a Paul Robertson-drawn Metal Slug.

Meh. Action games and RPG concepts don't mix well, in my opinion.

In an action game, you get better by playing better and improving your skill and strategy.

In an RPG, you get "better" by simply playing more.

The perfect example for this is Borderlands. I realized that the only reason I played it is for better weapons and loot, but not because of how it played. In fact, it was a terrible shooter, IMO. I'm kinda getting tired of the "carrot on a stick" BS that so many RPG games heavily rely on. Make your gameplay the reward. It should feel satisfying to take down an enemy because I was good at the game, not because I happened to luckily obtain a good weapon or that I just leveled up until it wasn't a problem.

Those drum samples are pretty high quality, SNES couldn't even pull them off.

I remember when I first saw the Kickstarter for this; I was really interested in the game. Wish I could have afforded to invest in it at the time. Glad to see it's doing well!

So it's a Metal Slug RPG. I'm not sure why it's getting such love, or why "pixel art indie" is suddenly okay. The gaming community confuses me sometimes.

Meh. I'm good on old-school inspired indie side-scrollers for awhile. Thanks though.

That... doesn't make a whole lot of since. Just because you are getting better gear and you can now kill weaker enemy's in fewer hits doesn't make you invincible. I remember plenty of RPGs where I've gotten a powerful weapon and thinking rushing everything would be the best strategy, only to get killed because I wasn't being careful. There is still plenty of skill and strategy involved in RPGs

And since when does a game being an action RPG suddenly mean the gameplay isn't rewarding? Didn't like Borderlands 2? No biggie. Why not try The Witcher 2? You get more powerful swords and armor in that game, but if you think just using brute force is going to get you to the end of the game then you're going to be seeing the game over screen about a hundred times. You also have to rely on traps, magic, dodging, and memorizing how enemy's attack. And once all this comes together, the game is extremely satisfying.

It looks much slower and less fun and intense than Metal Slug. While almost verging on outright plagiarism of the look of those games.

Looks like a clunkier version of Metal Slug.

I'll reserve judgement until I try it out.

I don't care if there are so many side scroller shooters like this out there, I like this type of game so sign me up, looks awesome!

Yeah, they're obviously taking a lot from Metal Slug, but I don't see why that's something to get mad or indignant about. It's not like good, new Metal Slug games are being made these days, so hooray for Mercenary Kings for picking up SNK's slack.

It's great to me because they are trying a lot of modern ideas that would never be added to Metal Slug. So even if it is very similar in its own ways it has a fresh direction. Is this really very different than Borderlands in theory? Just adding RPG elements, quests, co-op, loot to an established gameplay type?
