Holy shit that'd get annoying.

Yes, it's an unfortunate byproduct of the "Hey, the GB guys are like my friends!" mentality that gives GB its success. They're not your friends, they are strangers at best.

They are your friends. You (meaning each member of the audience) aren't their friend.

"Japanese Animes"

That's kind of redundant isn't it?

All said, this game is still DOPE after all this time!

"Age hasn't slowed you down one bit."

"The word is the abbreviated pronunciation of "animation" in Japanese, where this term references all animation." -wiki

Sort of now that it is a common word in other countries. Seems does like a strange way to have localized it.

This is the best feature on the site right now! Well done guys.

Best episode of this series, Drew has really evolved as an entertainer lately. No one does incredulous as well as Drew, cracks me up every time. The face video makes the series way better, watching Drew's facial expressions and reactions is the icing on the cake "what is that!!?!? what IS that???". Amazing. And Dan laughing his way through all of it along with us, with infinite patience and never ending enthusiasm, is the perfect partner for Drew.

I would absolutely never play this game, especially after watching all the boss fights in this series so far. That said, I'll happily watch Drew play it.

Wait, does dan's dad think the russian mob are like vampires? Once you invite them in your screwed? I would imagine if they wanted to get to you, finding out where you live would actually be quite trivial.

note: I do not actually have any experience with or have contacts in the russian maffia, I'm just speculating.

So Dan, if Naomi can use the nanomachines to stop Snake from being able to pull a trigger, does that mean he's never in control of his own body? He just thinks he's doing all this himself, but his actions are really being controlled by Campbell and Naomi, or the player? Are you not playing as Solid Snake, but as some anonymous drone operator controlling this clone super-soldier?

I haven't played this in over 10 years and it's now blowing my mind up.

Why would you have a drone operator control your clone super-soldier? He is a super-soldier.

Watching these videos has made me go back and look at the really bad blind Let's Play I did of MGS1 a few years ago. Quite a few things would've made my life easier if I'd known them, like rations automatically getting used, or how to run and shoot. Especially how to run and shoot. The communications tower was a serious stumbling block because I thought the only way to shoot was to stand still, which let the goons catch up to me.

On the plus side, I wound up doing quite well at some of the bosses. When I fought Gray Fox, I died four or five times on the second phase of the fight ("Hand to hand. It is the basis of all combat"). I decided to give it "one more try", and wound up getting what must have been seriously lucky on that phase, practically stunlocking GF until he went into phase three. And since I'd somehow picked up the thermal goggles (yet not the mine detector), phase three wasn't a problem, so I ended up beating him on that last attempt, which was pretty incredible.

I think I'm appreciating Metal Gear Solid a little more than I did at the time playing it. I still don't think it's anywhere near as good as people say it is, but I've still only played MGS1 and nothing else in the series. I just have a different view to, apparently, most people, where I don't respect the game for being super serious and explaining everything in detail, then in the same sentence talking about looking at the CD case for the codec frequency, because it sets an inconsistent tone. Maybe that'll change as I eventually play through 2 and 3. Maybe.

anybody else playing along with this? also my first time playing it

Dan is awesome. Drew is awesome. This feature is awesome.

The boss fights are actually pretty easy. Drew wasn't being very patient with the Grey Fox fight. He also missed out on the thermal goggles which would have helped him when he went stealth. Also could have put down some claymores.

I noticed he kept going for the 3 hit combo instead of one punch. At that point I think he felt pressure and got careless.

Okay let me take you to school for a sec (nah, just messin'). Snake may be a super soldier, but for this situation Campbell and his superiors need to have total control. Because of Snake's history with Big Boss, his connections to FOXHOUND, and possibly finding out he's a clone and he has to fight his clone-baby brother, they just might be worried about Snake having a bit of a freak-out, or possibly turning sides, but physically he's the best guy they got.

Why does Campbell say stuff like "press the action button" over the codec? Because he ain't talking to Snake, he's talking to YOU, the person controlling Snake's mind with a dualshock! CONNECT THE DOTS PEOPLE!

Has anyone noticed that when GB does an endurance run like this, the site is at its best? The Dark Souls, Persona, Bioforge, Demon. Souls etc runs have been some of the best stuff on the internet.

I'm going to hold Dan to that hat eating bet. New series: Eating My Words With Dan. First episode. Dan eats a hat and is then punched in the face.

same. well, in general it's the lack of new content since they guys are at PAX but this series is my favorite ongoing one. The demo one seemed promising but they haven't done any more episodes :/

Watching Dan gritting his teeth and shaking his leg just dying to give Drew some tips is great! XD

Edited by WINGMAN

Really thought watching Drew die over and over again would be absolutely annoying BUT watching his MGS skills progress so much from first attempt to last is such an enjoyment to witness, can't wait for next episode!!

Posted by kishinfoulux

I'll just say you should always stock up before a boss fight. I've noticed Drew has a habit of going into them with like no health, few rations, etc. Should always be at optimal strength.

Edited by drockus

@wingman: For me, it's the lack of Drew's progress that's entertaining. It's fun to see a grown man struggle so much with a game that was a breeze for me when I was 15, in 1998. It's a strange ego trip, indeed.

P.S. Dan is great addition to the staff. There's no going back.

"I wonder where bullies end up?"

"They probably go into law enforcement."

"That's kinda who I'd want to be in law enforcement, though."

@drewbert confirmed for bully and crooked cop sympathizer.

Also, working my way through the video, I don't think I like angry/frustrated Drew. It's not right and it kinda scares me, like when you see a parent cry.

Yeah, I was thinking, did Drew EVER curse in his life? I can not remember a single instance captured on a video!

Posted by PolygonSlayer

This keeps on being awesome, even though it is definitely more like Breaking Drew at this point :P Looking forward to the next episode... to a certain boss fight in particular :)

Posted by Nags

This was posted last week. Right? Weird that it's in the header.

@nags: I think something broken when they pushed out the new header and whatever else went with it. The upcoming stuff is also stuck in the past.

You know, I'm slowly trying to figure out everyone's catchphrase when they get super frustrated or have some kind of feeling of overcoming the jaws of defeat. As far as I can tell...

Drew: "WHAT IS THAT!?!?!??!" (as noted in this video, and in a few others)

Vinny: "WHATEVER!!!!!!" (when he beat Castlevania, and I caught him saying it in co-op games in the past)

Actually now that I think of it, Brad loves to say "OH BOY". Watch that Vinnyvania: Simon's Quest video, at the point where John Drake is explaining how he would love to kickstart a "Brad Shoemaker sings the heavy metal hits" album.

Watching the slow mental breakdown of Drew Scanlon should not be this enjoyable.

The Nikita shots in the gas room...

When he said "Nice shot, Drew" when he finally got it I couldn't help but think of Batman trying to hit the switch with his batarang in the Lego Movie "first try"

Also, love the camera angles/effects on the guys!

baah, when's the next ep? i'm guessing pax disrupted their flow in taping?

I remember that punch...

It was just like homemade Hi-C and I just HAD to ask your recipe.

Posted by Zasabi

Every time Dan opens his mouth, he reminds me how much I like him. Hilarious! Nice touch with the codec screens- watching their reactions is half of the fun.
