Finally, I can't wait to see how long it takes Drew to figure Mantis out.

Still watching the fight but you can use Thermal Goggles to see where Mantis is going while in camouflage. If you don't have thermal goggles, use first person as you can see from his perspective.

Using Stun Grenades on Meryl knocks her out straight away and without inflicting damage. You can crawl to duck under the furniture.

Mantis has to be one of the most iconic boss fights in the history of video games.

This is gonna be good.

You've been playing... Metal Gear Solid.

Also I just finished Guns of the Patriots and the Psycho Mantis part is pretty funny.

I personally can't wait to see what Drew thinks of The End. As far as I'm concerned, it is basically the best boss fight in gaming history, and the subject matter of the boss fight also seems like something Drew would enjoy. Fingers crossed this series makes it there!

Yeah, that's another great one.

YES. I have been waiting for more MGScanlon. Definitely my favourite GB series of late.

Edited by VoshiNova

Oh hell yes Psycho Mantis!

This is making me want to play the series again...again!

CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWL!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: Didn't remember that the blinking stuff at the end was that precise but I think it would've been pretty easy if you had just equipped the socom and started running around with the gun already pointing and just trying to pop off immeadiately when you see him?

Bradley and Jeffrey needs to sit in on this one day.

So this was my favorite PS1 game. Much like Dan, I played the hell out of it.

Even the first time, though, I recall these bosses being a lot less difficult as a kid. Then again, I focused on getting the shooting/melee mechanics down.

It was about half and half melee and shooting for Mantis.

I'm wondering if being accustomed to modern controls is actually a hindrance when going back to old games like this.

Drew saying 'Buttlefield' tickled me way too much

Edited by Humanity

Bewildering how completely awful Drew is at this game - I love it since Dan cringes soo much.

@katygaga no nooo that is completely O-K if they don't sit in on it. I've had several years of everyone on the Bombcast always ragging on these games any time they're brought up. It's refreshing to have someone speak positively about it.

Definitely.

Ha, Dan was actually super close to figuring out the other way of killing Mantis. It takes forever though for them to actually let you blow up the masks. Pretty sweet when you do though. Also, maybe the first time I've seen a Mantis fight without someone trying to crawl constantly to avoid all of the objects. Funny how much of these small things I know that I take advantage of, without realizing that new people have NO idea about any of them.

Still pound for pound the most entertaining series going on at the moment. Can't wait for future episodes...

Loving this so much! Great stuff guys. Also, when (and if) we get to see Drew play MGS 2 and 3, play the HD remakes. They run and look great, and also the camera is in 3rd person (at least in 3) so it makes the playing part less frustrating without sacrificing what's cool about the series, imo.

And Dan adding "Bad Humpany" had me almost in tears laughing.

Mantis?

Did Drew miss the thermal optics? He's a lot easier to track that way.

Edited by RuN

Guys ! Thermal goggles! They are THE thing in these boss fights with stealth enemies, you just track him and hit him when he stops, much easier. Also crouching and going prone prevents all that flying shit from hitting you.

As cheeseball as it sounds, I feel like the codec line about "trusting your instincts as a gamer" actually holds pretty true to this game, and the series. There's a lot of basic gameplay clues Drew isn't picking up on, no doubt due mostly to the pressure of being under that hot green codec light.

Completely understandable. This series is goddamn nuts on every level. But I'm really looking forward to that moment where he "gets" Metal Gear. Also, this is probably my favorite video feature ever, and that almost hurts to say considering Deadly Premonition and Persona.

god i love MGS , keep em coming!

I've been waiting for this pain!

I hope Drew gets more comfortable with the choke holds. I remember farming soldiers for rations being a thing to do.

Edited by Wiseblood

IIRC, Twin Snakes made this boss fight pretty trivial too. If you crawl all the stuff he throws around goes over you and you can shoot at him in first person while prone.

This fight blew my fucking mind back in the days.

Kojima is such a beautiful bastard.

Oh man he needs the thermal goggles bad. There's a boss fight coming up that I don't think I've ever beat it without them.

Edited by sub_o

@drewbert should stop spraying bullets like that, it makes the game a lot harder. Take some time to learn how to use the Famas to lock on target, to lightly hold the button to aim before shooting, etc.

There's supposed to be a game manual that you can refer to when pressing the PS button.

Another good video but good lord the dialogue is so bad. It's not good introspection Dan or deep.
