Metal Gear Solid V or The Phantom Pain or Whatever They'll Eventually Call It: Debut Trailer

Yesterday Hayter was asked on twitter about the trailer. here's what he wrote about:

so this shows "Metal Gear Solid V" and at the very end of the trailer, a voice says, "V has come to," (referring to the guy waking up at the beginning) which leads me to believe that the "V" shown in the hidden title is the letter V and not the roman numeral for 5. V for Vita?

They seem like they will be different parts of the same game. Likely that there is no Ground Zeroes and we were being strung along. It's all MGS5. Kojima cray.

This is awesome because it is really cool and interesting even if it isn't Metal Gear related. You don't have to like his games, but no one can deny Kojima's ability to pull off twists like this in an era when true surprises in video games are all but extinct.

Finally, a game that lets me follow a man crouching in an open-backed hospital gown. :)

Ahh but this is Kojima we're talking about maybe he wants you to think its Snake when its all LIES!.

I love me some Metal Gear, but that looks really fucking bad. Hopefully it's all just a pre-announcement marketing hype for MGSV. We do need more info before jumping to conclusions. Like, how is Kojima and his team making two MGS games. Unless...Kojima's Swedish twin brother is in charge of this one...

Is it just me or does it seem like the bit of VO at the end gets cut off? I'm not just talking about this version on giantbomb, but this same trailer on every site I've seen does it. What gives?

That is snakes mullet. Looks like Phycho Mantin. And those subtitles are pretty Kojima like. But then there was a flying fucking whale!!

Why even try to mask the identity of the game? That mullet is so well known, it isn't like people would have been fooled anyway.

I haven't watched, but I'm excited. Ground zeroes looks super good, plus we get a brand new numbered Metal Gear? Awesome.

You know that that's not a very good comparison, right? For starters, the Phantom Pain trailer is not referencing any existing material that we know of AND it stars the main character of the game.

Whatever this trailer is actually for, I have to say it's damn well made. Spooky. Intriguing. I haven't felt intrigued by a new game in a long time, so major props for that.

This sums up how I feel as well. If Kojima can do one thing really well it's get me hyped for his new game.

Still incorrect. Viral Marketing. Trolling. Whatever you want to call it. At the end of the day this is footage of a Metal Gear Solid game of some type, there are clues all around the internet (websites, facebook pages, twitter posts) that are there for fans to puzzle together to reach the final conclusion: That's a new MGS. (or more footage of Ground Zeroes. HELL I DONT KNOW ANYMORE.)

Beard, mullet, bandage over right eye, it has to be Big Boss not snake.

Now that Ive seen it, sure as hell looks like a metal gear game to me.

@ the 2:55 mark... Look at the feet that rise from the ground, then hover over head. Thats some creepy sh!t. (I mean so are the Flaming Helicopter eating Whale and Unicorn )

Counting on crazy Kojima being a genius again! Military games need to escape the trend they are going in right now, a little injection of creativity would be welcome.

I find this trailer super unsettling, almost to the point where I think that it's wasted on the Metal Gear franchise. Looks like it'd make a solid horror thing.

@BigBoss1911: But you know MGS trailers tend to be misleading at the beginning. Specially about who the main character is supposed to be...

Anyway, I'm just happy seeing that another MG is on it's way.

Well if this is an MGS game, I'm assuming that facility is the cloning lab where they made Liquid and Solid. Les Enfants Terible or whatever the french phrase is. Looks fucking rad.

@hollitz: It's definitely a game set in the futuristic MGS universe, and they already announced that Ground Zeroes is a setup for Metal Gear Solid 5.

I find hard to believe they would be working on 3 high budget MG games at the same time so I'd guess this one is MGS5

When I first saw this trailer I though it was related to MGS, not because of all the clues people have discovered but I though the aesthetics were very similar to those on the Ground Zeroes trailer, the lighting, the textures, the cloth physics and beard technology are almost the same and the camera work is very similar. I though maybe it was a new game using the same engine, but seeing that it was a different studio confused me...later when people started saying is probably a MGSV trailer it made a lot of sense to me.

So from what I gather, it's a full-length tactical microwave tunnel espionage experience where you play as Kurt Cobain, who for some reason has been given a claw prosthetic even though patients today are given almost fully-functional carbon-fiber arms.

Well whatever it is, it looks compelling and beautiful. Hopefully trailer quality translates to game quality.

I'm rapidly approaching my limit for how many Metal Gear products I can pay attention to within a given 5-year period.
