Metal Gear Solid V or The Phantom Pain or Whatever They'll Eventually Call It: Debut Trailer

Not sure if this has been brought up, but I don't think the hexagon floor tiles are a coincidence. I think it's a reference to MGS2 and The Big Shell.

I was trying to figure out what the VO at the end was; probably cut off like that on purpose. Sounded like something in Russian? I dunno. This whole trailer is bananas.

@Slayeric: unless they call it metal gear solid 5 : phantom pain, and change studio name to moby dick studios this is a viral video, the fact that they might be using footage from the game, (which we won't know till it's out,) might blur the lines between viral and real trailer, but theres no evidence that any of the footage is from the game yet.

Given Kojimas insanity this might also be a video within a video situation, like all that fake tv in mgs 4 but again no evidence of that either.

And yes i know the guy looks like big boss but that doesn't mean it's from the game.

At the 33 second mark and then along with the title card, a few bars of Chopin are played. In Eternal Sonata, Chopin's character apparently had a special attack called Phantom Pain.

@Dallas_Raines: I agree that most of the Metal Gear bosses (and actually, everything about it) has also been a bit ridiculous. I mean, they are generally awesome characters but yeah. one of them uses swarms as bees as weapons.

With that said however, the flame animals and the giant flaming skywhale do seem to be out of place. A lot of the weird characters before are people who have somehow altered bodies. That's generally the extent of it. They never really mess with animals or anything, not even in Snake Eater. So my guess is seeing those flamamals is drug induced or coma induced or both.

@paulmako: There is a Psycho mantis type character in this trailer so it's pretty likely he could mess around with the players head. Sorrow did some of that in MGS3 to a lesser extent.

Well let's try to make some sense out of this: Kojima stated that MGS: Ground Zeroes is a 'prologue' to MGSV, and it takes place after the latest portable installment of MGS (Peace Walker I think?), therefore it takes place before Big Boss becomes the leader of FoxHound in the original Metal Gear and all that stuff, which would make this game take place after Ground Zeroes and just before Foxhound, my question then is:

Since when is Big Boss missing a hand?

There's a thread on neogaf that basically confirms this is another MGS game. Here's the quick bullet points:

- Continued play on "phantom", where "Two Phantoms were born" stands as the tagline for Ground Zeroes' first concept material.

- Volgin lookalike wreathed in flames.

- Hallucinating petals straight from MGS3's climax.

- Floating figure with audible breaths muffled by mask, ala Psycho Mantis.

- Similar facial scars between in-game model and Snake concept art for Ground Zeroes.

- That fucking mullet.

- Joakim Mogren, where Joakim is an anagram for Kojima.

Seems pretty obviously an MGS game but the conversation I keep having with my buddies that are also MGS nerds is whether or not this is Ground Zeroes and if not does that mean there are essentially three MGS games currently in the works? The thought of that makes my pants tight.

After the first few seconds in I was expecting dubstep and Inception style action segments.

This reminded me a lot of Texhnolyze, minus the BDSM. Also. Jack. Fucking. Bauer!

As for whether this is MGS5 or not. Who cares? That's obviously Snake, that's all that matters.

I love how all the Neogaf comments were like "this game looks boring" when the trailer was first shown. But now they're all like "zomg! this game looks awesome!"

The end of the demo when he left the hospital it looked like the camp from Ground Zeroes, I bet GZ and MGS5 are just one game and Kojima is just being a master troll again, can't see Kojima working on 2 big MGS games that feature the same timeline and protangonist. Plus MGS5 on the 360 makes me happy, hope they release MGS4 as well before it comes out.

If this is indeed Metal Gear then Kojima and the marketing guys are amazing for coming up for this add campaign.

Looking pretty shitty for an MGS game?

MGS mixed with Jacobs Ladder. I love it! I'm skipping Ground Zeroes and going straight to MGS5.

Trying to hide that this is a Metal Gear game is like if they tried to hide the next God of War, but followed Kratos around the entire running time of the trailer. Still, this looks super interesting.

And calling the studio "Moby Dick Studios" is brilliant since Metal Gear has been Kojima's white whale. He keeps trying to kill it but it will be the death of him first.

For all the "hidden" clues, it just took one thing to convince me that it's a Metal Gear game:
