Is this made with the Sims 3 engine ?

Hold the fuck up! How are their reflections in the canal at the beginning supposed to work, exactly?

Edited by solidlife

You're so right, it looks exactly the same! Man I loved The Movies...

Ah! Vaguely European! My favorite ethnicity!

WHAT'S UP WITH THAT REFLECTION IN THE FIRST SCENE? DUKE NUKEM DID A BETTER JOB!
Apart from that the game looks ok.

No FMV?

No sale.

"Malachi Rector"? That was seriously the best you could come up with?

Posted by the_Hollow

Fu*k this man, looks damn terrible !

Would kill for Gray Matter 2,the soundtrack was absolutely incredible as was the mood of atmosphere.

Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller episodes are fking horrible with awful characters, plot and pacing, not to mention game bugs.ugh

Luckily after this one they'll make it.

I mean, I am all about The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery, but holy fuck that looks bad. Did they kickstart it for ten bucks?

It has a budget of $400k, considering adventure games in the 90's/early 00's used to have a budget of at least around 3 or 4 millions, the expectations on the visuals should be set at a reasonable level. That said, those reflections looked really, really dumb.

Edited by Darji

wow you guys are dicks^^

Personally I find that much more interesting than the Doublefine Kickstarter "let's be artsy" shit style. And I sadly backed this thing... Luckily I also backed the Larry game which looks really really cool.

Posted by Sarx

I think it looks decent. Much better than the early 3d adventures back in the day and I played those, too. And Jane Jensen has yet to write an adventure that dissappoints me.

Posted by emem

Uhh, apart from the weird reflections at the beginning it looks totally fine to me.

Edited by Aelric

Malachi Rectum? So he is an ass wizard?

Posted by Humanity

Dunno who Jane Jensen is but it looks interesting

Edited by haggis

It looks ... crappy. No surprise, given the budget. But it's not just the graphics. It's the voice acting and the overall aesthetics. The ridiculous music. It's gonna be a trainwreck of a game.

I wonder if going with an old-school painted background, rendered character approach would not only have been cheaper but also better looking. I mean, seriously--Gabriel Knight 3 looked better than this. In 1999.

I'm excited to play this because i know the design and gameplay will be top notch (Jane Jensen!), but there are definitely some cringe-inducing qualities to the character models and animations right now. I'm happy with the graphics for the most part since I know it is being made on a tiny budget, but lord....the animations stick out like a sore thumb. Really really hope they can fix that up or it will turn a lot of people off even trying the game. For what it's worth, I've seen previews of some of the cutscenes and they are amazing. They are what Gray Matter failed to deliver and it's great to see.

Mabye you should go to youtube and watch Gabriel Knight material. Seriously..... Yes of course it does not look as good as Gray Matter but that game also had a much much higher budget. You can like the art style or not like it sure. But saying it looks worse than a Gabriel Knight 3 is just bullshit. I am sorry...

Grey Matter and Gabriel Knight are amazing. This will likely be a piece of cunt

@darji: It's hyperbole :) Calm down.

I am calm. I just think Jane does not deserve this pointless bashing^^

I would hate my parents if that was my name.

@darji: Dude, I'm a fan of Jensen. A huge fan. But you know what? The trailer is a disaster. It's not pointless, it's gnashing-of-teeth bad, that's what it is.

The voice acting and graphics look even worse than the shit Runaway and Yesterday games. That's saying something.....

Posted by Bane122

So I totally read that headline wrong and thought Jane Jansen was Kickstarting a game using art from Moebius before he died.

I was seriously disappointed when I watched the trailer.

Not digging the style at all.

Oh god, and I almost gave money to this project.

I gave money to this Kickstarter, and I'm overall looking forward to the games Jensen is putting out in the coming years; but I agree, the visual style of this game is just not that impressive. It's a blatant rip-off of the astoundingly MEDICORE Cognition (same developer, obviously), which I thought was in much worse condition. The voice acting and music in this are much more competent. Also, it's Jane Jense. It will at least be well-written. The lower budget doesn't help, but if people wanted to see better they should have pledged to help her out. If I was in charge of making this game, I would have commissioned one of the many great teams out there reviving the retro look; a return to form for Jane. Someone like AGD Interactive, or hell, the team that did Gemini Rue. Not to say they'd accept, but Phoenix Online has shown they're just not interesting.

Still, I'm looking forward to it because Jane is/was responsible for so many amazing games. Gray Matter was her latest, and despite the troubled development was full of great elements.

I'm really looking forward to this. Gray Matter was one of my favourite games of recent years.

Adventure game trailers are always bad, and never indicative of quality. This could easily be a well-written, deftly paced, and intelligent story with brilliant puzzles, but how would you show those things in a trailer? Although I agree the art style looks a little bland.

Posted by JamesJeux007

Man, the graphics look like Broken Sword 3... and that's not a compliment. I'm still looking forward to this game, since I am a hardcore fan of the Gabriel Knight series, and I don't want to judge the game by a trailer only. But yeah, graphics don't look super great, and what little voice acting there was was not the best. But you know which games had crappy voice acting ? Gabriel Knight 1, 2 and 3. So I am not too concerned, the plot will hopefully make it worthwhile. I am probably going to end up buying the game anyway since there are not a lot of decent adventure games coming out these days (and good ones are even rarer).

Speaking of Phoenix Online Studios, their Cognition adventure series looks pretty sweet. Any chance of a Quick Look @patrickklepek?

Edited by Krathoon

It looked fine to me. The GK style is in there. I am cool with it. It is still in alpha at the moment.
