Yeah, that's what I want, too. :(

Knowing this series it will probably be re-released a whole bunch. I'l just wait until that happens, and lands on console.

@djou: What I saw was enough to say "Yeah this look like Monster Hunter with some pretty rad new features, I can't wait to jump on Raithian's back and stab her to death" I don't think they should have to show a ton of game play to get the gist of the game across. And this trailer was obviously aimed at people who are already into Monster Hunter.

@skankinpacman: Did we watch the same thing? What I saw was some Japanese dude in a captain's jacket standing in front of the Capcom logo, and about 45 seconds of randomly cut game footage in 5 sec bites without any audio, UI, or context. This game has been out in Japanese since last year, so its not like its unfinished. If you are doing an American launch trailer why wouldn't you focus on the game, not some dev no one knows.

Please Capcom, for the love of god lose the PS2-era textures and develop for a handheld with actual dual analog sticks.

So is Monster Hunter a Nintendo exclusive affair?

I'm not really interested in picking up a 3DS but if there would be a Monster Hunter on PS4 I would definitely check it out.

The success of the 3DS in Japan and the general preference for handhelds seems to indicate that it's where they're staying for a little while. If PS4's Japan launch is a blowout success and completely revives the console market there, maybe we'll see that change.

Get hyped.

Before any newcomers buy this game on the 3DS though, you should get the Circlepad Pro. Makes it infinitely more playable, if infinitely less portable.

While I prefer using the CPP myself, I know of a number of players that prefer using the target lock and left trigger. I played 3U for a good 40 or so hours before getting the CPP and while it's nice to have, I definitely don't think it's required or anything.

MH4 also removes swimming, which was really the biggest problem in terms of controls.

As long as they have online play in the 3ds version, I'll forgive them for not releasing it on the Wii U as well. I do enjoy longer play sessions on the big TV though. I'll miss that when 4 releases.

Really unfortunate that it's still only on a handheld. Maybe something will change between now and this time next year.

I've just never been able to get into the structure of the game play. The look has always been intriguing, but the feel of the world and mechanism of hunt/combat have always just tuned me off.

I look at it, I say "Cool hunting monsters and then harvesting supplies from the monsters I capture...i" t will working like THIS, right? Wrong! It works some other bizarre way that is a total turn-off that makes the the monster un-fun to hunt, the crafting un-fun to do, the play area unpleasantly closed in...yuck.

Such an amazing bit of news today =D Literally the best case scenario in my head for this game.

It's still on 3DS (I was worried they'd flip flop to another console necessitating a purchase of a Vita)

It's the final "Ultimate/G" version (I was worried we'd get the equivalent of MH3P on PSP)

It's coming!

I love Monster Hunter games, but fuck playing them on a handheld. The Vita I could see as an exception, but that's never going to happen.

Here's to hoping for a Wii U version.

Man, I like the idea of Monster Hunter, but I had absolutely no fun playing MH3 Ultimate at all. It felt like a busted-ass PS2 game.

@djou: What? They showed a ton.

Also, I am not sure how I feel about the jumping and being able to jump on monsters. That just doesn't feel monster hunty to me. Guess we will see when it comes out though.

Sad they never bothered to do at least a text translation for NA/EU of MH4, the people who would buy MH4 would have probably bought MH4U as well.

It's gonna be a long year waiting for this game but hey, at least we're going to get the Ultimate edition which is usually the last rendition of the set when it comes to Monster Hunter so that's good. I can't wait to play it online since no one around me plays the Monster Hunter games so the lack of online play, at least for the 3ds, was a killer for me.

If they ever do make a Wii U version please make it a better port than 3U was, because man that was rough. Worse FPS than the 3DS version in a lot of places despite just being an up-ressed port.

And keep Frontier the fuck away from everything. That game is evil. Not in a 'so much fun it ruins your life' way, but in a 'holy fuck, what kind of sociopath designed this game' way.

@shevar: not exclusive given its history, but recently the ones coming over here (ie the Ultimate or G versions) have been exclusive to Nintendo.

There is hope that the redo of Monster Hunter Frontier (their MMO-like game) will be ported to things other than PC. Whether it comes over here...

Basically these games come out on whatever Capcom gets incentivized to put them out on.

Don't you toy with my emotions like that! Don't you do it!

yaaaay. . . Another Monster Hunter game that should have been on Vita get's to be on the handheld that has the least appropriate button layout for Monster Hunter games. Wii U would have been a great move for 4 Ultimate in the west. The 3DS is big over here but not like it is in Japan.

Well, we've had the 2DS I can still dream about a 3DSXL revision with two sticks and better button placement.

God damn this would have been good on Vita.

Just in time for the Japanese announcement of 4G. I might just wait for that one to come here.

Edit: so apparently that is the one coming. I'm a happy camper now.

I have MH3U in my sights as I got a 3DS just before Christmas, but this being able to play online without needing the Wii U as a stepping stone is phenomenal news. Definitely buying this, might even go day 1 on it.

No reason to count it out yet. The WiiU version of MH3U was also announced way later and since that version did pretty good for Capcom, I think we'll hear something on that over the course of the year...
